Work Force Development Center A Resource Center for our Future Summer 2014 Newsletter A Message from Our Executive Director First and foremost, we have to offer our sincere gratitude to the Mayor of Mukilteo Jennifer Gregerson and Boeing Manager Daryl Connite for presenting Keynote speeches at our graduation ceremony on May 29 th . We closed our 2013-2014 training year with 53 successful graduates! Now we are looking ahead to our 2 nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament (https://wfdcgolftournament.eventbrite .com) on Friday August 15 th at Legion Memorial Golf Course in Everett, WA. We are thrilled to have the support and participation of FIVE Seahawks, TWO Mariners and One SuperSonics alumni, as well as NY Jets, Green Bay Packers alumni and Seattle musicians! We are also grateful for the support of our business community sponsors – Scotts Lawn Services, Electronic Business Machines, Northwest Landscaping Services and Vine Dahlen PLLC. Our friends at Skills Inc., Swinomish Casino and Approach Management Services are sending foursomes to join us for a day on the links. Register before July 31 st and save! Last but not least, we are looking forward to welcoming 60 student trainees in September 2014 and 20 more in February 2015 from 25 schools, in 13 districts across three counties. We appreciate the work our school liaisons do in connecting potential candidates with our vocational training and for their advocacy throughout the year! MAY - Student Trainees returned to the classroom for over a week in May to learn about searching for jobs, writing a resume, and interviewing. Boeing Manager and WFDC Board Member Daryl Connite stopped by to share his expertise about the job search process with our trainees. Su Nelson and Teri Read of Everett WorkSource also spent two days with the WFDC student trainees discussing resume writing, interviewing and navigating the Boeing application process. Employment Specialist Douglas Burkhalter and Job Coach Justin Lord from the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation also spent time with our students discussing what resources were available to assist them with the job search process as well! An enormous thank you to our community for their support and guidance for our trainees! On May 29 th , 53 graduates participated in our end of year Graduation Ceremony! Mayor Jennifer Gregerson and Boeing Manager and WFDC Board Member Daryl Connite were our keynote speakers. Many of our business partners, board members and school liaisons joined our students’ friends and families to celebrate our student trainees’ accomplishments! JUNE – Eighteen of our student trainees are staying on with us this summer as they continue to hone their aerospace assembly skills. Our wire shop is growing by leaps and bounds and a few of our trainees have joined the staff at WFDC in our wire shop! WHAT’S AHEAD AT WFDC? A Message from Our Executive Director
