Position Title: Director of Development Reports to: Chief Executive Officer Job Classification: Full-time, Exempt Applications Due By: May 9, 2020 by 5 pm PST Summary: The Director of Development is responsible for developing and overseeing the comprehensive fundraising strategy for the organization. The Director of Development also supervises a team of three people working on communications and fundraising work for the organization. This is a full-time position and reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). About the SLO Food Bank: SLO Food Bank works with a network of community partners to alleviate hunger and build a healthier community. Each year the SLO Food Bank distributes 4 million pounds of food, half of which is fresh produce, and serves as the primary cost-effective food source for 77 agency partners countywide. During normal operations, these combined efforts distribute food to 30,000 individuals throughout San Luis Obispo County each month. As schools close and businesses reduce operations due to COVID-19, even more of our fellow community members need food assistance. Visit slofoodbank.org to learn more about us. Principle Duties & Responsibilities: Create and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy for the organization (including individual donations, corporate sponsorships, in-kind donations, and major gifts) to sustain and build programmatic and organizational capacity. Identify, cultivate, and solicit individual, foundation, corporate, and in-kind prospects to support program and operating goals. Create and oversee comprehensive donor appreciation policy for the organization. In collaboration with the CEO, monitor progress toward long- and short-term fundraising goals including major giving, special events, direct mail appeals, on-line giving, and corporate partnership and volunteer initiatives. Work with administrative and donor relations staff to ensure development records are reconciled with accounting records, timely acknowledgments are sent, and donor and prospect files and database are maintained. Supervise Development and Communications staff and lead the Development and Communications Department. Oversee staff that implement special events and public information activities for the promotion and advancement of SLO Food Bank’s mission and goals. Serves as part of the senior management team at SLO Food Bank to help shape organizational goals around development, public relations, and communications.

• Serve as a spokesperson for the Food Bank, in conjunction with the CEO and other senior management.

• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the CEO. Qualifications: The ideal applicant will have the following qualifications:

• Passion for SLO Food Bank Mission • Proven track record of non-profit fundraising experience. • Demonstrated success cultivating individual donors and managing donor relationships.

Experience soliciting major gifts a plus. • Full computer proficiency with standard Microsoft Office programs including Excel. • Proficiency with fundraising and communications software, such as MailChimp,

VolunteerHub, GiveEffect, and Kindful. • Outstanding skills in public speaking, written and oral communications and

interpersonal relations. • Experience with marketing and communications and volunteer management a plus. • Ability to work effectively with others to resolve conflicts and build consensus. • Excellent organizational skills.

Requirements: Must possess a valid Driver’s License, clean driving record, proof of insurance, and reliable transportation. Work Conditions: The position is based out of the SLO Food Bank’s offices at 1180 Kendall Road, San Luis Obispo, CA, and works alongside a dedicated group of approx. 30 staff and thousands of volunteers. Position includes office and outdoor work, including extended time operating a computer. Some amount of stooping, kneeling, bending, lifting, walking, carrying and other movements may be required. Must be available for periodic work on weekends, evenings and other after-hours occasions, as deemed necessary. Some travel within and outside San Luis Obispo County will be required.
