• The Sugar Glider was made in America by Douglas Aircraft

Company.

• Douglas invented

the DC-4 in 1935.• The first model was

called DC-4 Experimental.• The DC-4 E took off for

the first time on 7th June

1938.

• When the Second World War started the DC-4 was used to carry American

soldiers .

• During the Second World War the DC-4 was called C-54 Skymaster, .

• Douglas made 1,163 C-54.

• When the Second World War finished the Sugar Glider was bought by a private company.

• It was used to carry coffee from South America.

• Later it went to an Asian country.

• It used to be a president’s private plane.

• His pilot’s name was Henderson.

• There was a war and the goverment lost so Henderson flew the president to safety in Australia.

• The President gave the plane to Henderson as a thank-you present.

• Henderson started his own company carrying things all over Australia.

When the Sugar Glider was getting too old it was sold to the Melbourne Air Museum.
