Hyndburn Dementia Action Alliance (DAA) would like to introduce their new Newsletter that will hopefully reach many people throughout the Borough. The idea of this Newsletter is to raise awareness of events that will be taking place throughout the borough and to bring together the Hyndburn Community to help improve the lives of people living with dementia and their carers. Success of Hyndburn DAAs first Dementia Hub The first Hyndburn Dementia Hub was held on 20th January 2017 at St James Centre Accrington. The Hub is a point of contact for all services that are available to you throughout Hyndburn. They hold events every three months at St James Centre, Accrington 11.00am—1.00pm. It is an opportunity for you to meet and discuss any problems /issues you may have at this drop-in, one stop event. The first hub was a massive success with over 60 people living with dementia and their carers attending. Many people throughout Hyndburn have now taken part in Dementia Friends Training. Including staff from Hyndburn Borough Council, students and staff from ACROSS, as well as many local businesses. Members of the DAA are Dementia Champions and are happy to offer Dementia Friends Training. Tel: 074342086131 or Email: [email protected] We have formed an alliance with Girlguiding - Accrington Division to help educate our young people about people in their communities Living With Dementiaby organising an event where the girls and their volunteers can learn more about how to become Dementia Friendly. Out and about with Jan and Justin Jan and Justin are always busy attending different events offering advice. They recently held an information stand at Asda Accrington, They were welcomed with a warm reception from both customers and staff alike .. Jan says:- We had a fantastic two days with lots of enquiries – I am now hoping that Asda may take up the offer for us to provide Dementia Friends Training to all staff Upcoming Events Volunteers from the Action For Dementia Team are available every Wednesday at The 1st Call Shopin the Accrington Arndale.
