Minutes of the May 5, 2016 Meeting

Location: Flossmoor Station Restaurant & Brewery, 1035 Sterling Avenue

President Schaefer called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance. The association went

through introductions. Motion made to approve the Minutes from the April 7, 2016 meeting,

seconded and passed unanimously. There were no bills to approve.

President Schaefer then called for Committee Reports. Bob Myers [Lynwood] reported that the Audit

of the Association financial records was completed by himself and Jeff Hon [Hazel Crest]. All records

are in good order.

Pres. Schaefer discussed the upcoming PWX training. The Executive Board proposed and the

Association agreed to sponsor one Director to attend PWX this year. The cost of the conference,

transportation and lodging will be paid for by the Association. President Schaefer awarded the

sponsorship to Director Jeff Hon. Director Hon thanked the Association and responded that he will

represent the SPWDA while at PWX.

Pres. Schaefer then explained the 5-day welding class to be held May 23-27. The Training Committee

asked for a subsidy for those that are registered to attend. President Schaefer asked for a motion to

subsidize $100 per person, up to $800. Motion was made, seconded and approved unanimously.

Pres. Schaefer then went through the Concrete Flatwork Joint Bid that seven municipalities are a part

of. The bids came back low, and Homewood awarded the contract with Whiteline Construction.

Overall this was a very successful venture for those involved with the bid.

1VP Brunke asked the Directors if anyone had received a response from MWRD regarding their

submitted short term plan, and advised them that Flossmoor had received one page of comments.

Homewood had also received one page of comments.

Pres. Schaefer then gave an update on recent EPA legislation regarding lead. The six page letter

received requires municipalities to now inform all affected by any water disruption. (Main break,

meter exchange, hydrant flushing, anything to do with the water lines) There is a likelihood that all

lead service lines will have to be identified and a possibility that the lead service lines will have to be

replaced, at the expense of the municipality.

Presentation: A presentation was given regarding Vehicle Management Systems from Verizon by Mr.

Rich Wilbert.

With no other concerns, President Schaefer motioned for adjournment. Meeting adjourned.

Minutes of the October 6, 2016 Meeting

Location: Balagio Ristorante, 17501 Dixie Highway, Homewood IL

President Schaefer called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance. The association went

through introductions. Motion made to approve the Minutes from the September 1, 2016 meeting,

seconded and passed unanimously. There was one bill to approve – the reimbursement to Jeff Hon

for the PWX Conference. Motion was made and seconded to reimburse him in the amount of $1,924

(as was voted on/approved in May 2016). Motion passed unanimously.

President Schaefer then called for Committee Reports. Nancy Burrows [South Suburban College]

reported that a Snow and Ice training will be held on November 7th, with speaker Mark DeVries.

Please contact Nancy to register employees; an email will follow regarding registration. Pres.

Schaefer reported that SAWW Training will be held October 26 & 27. Please contact Admin. Asst.

Syren with any questions about registration. Pres. Schaefer thanked Bob Myers [Lynwood] for

hosting the recent MS4 training.

There were no updates on IML or on MWRD Committees. Pres. Schaefer discussed the quarry tunnel

and its usage. The affected communities of Homewood, South Holland and Thornton are to meet

with MWRD regarding the odor issues and how MWRD plans to resolve them.

Pres. Schaefer gave a brief reminder that ISAWWA will be holding the 2016 Annual Regulatory

Update / Lead & Copper Corrosion Control conference on October 13th. Registration is required to

attend. He also reminded the group that with any water main work being performed, lead notices

are required to be given to those affected. Contact Admin. Asst. Syren if you need a draft of this

notice.

2VP Rinchich discussed the HMP updates, which were due October 1st. You can request an extension

and submit all revisions by October 12th.

There was a short discussion on salt prices having come down this year.

Presentation: Mr. James Potter of Illinois Recycling Services gave a presentation on electronics

recycling & its history.

With no other concerns, President Schaefer motioned for adjournment. Meeting adjourned.
