Why?Easier access for boats going to the fish market – and reduce need for large boats in the smaller bay.Enhances safety for recreational boat users (rowing) within Blackwattle Bay.Enhances the marine environment of Blackwattle Bay by reducing traffic and reduces disturbances of pollutants within the bay.Current Fish Market site is sub-standard for a world class amenity. It is confined by a motorway, noise pollution and has limited waterfront interface.Allows the redevelopment of the new fish market rejuvenation of the current fish market without any disruption to the existing one.Enhances safety for boat vessels by avoiding sub-standard passage through White Bay Island Bridge.Less boats, less oil, cleaner way in the Bays- enabling recreation to dominate.

Note: we understand the need to retain the existing port facilities at White Bay, yet the whole site is not needed (as the current temporary convention centre demonstrates). Sydney deserves a world class fish market and this is a unique opportunity.

How?Integrate the fish and food markets with some harbour activity, but give priority to the community.Develop generous public green edge.

The proposed location provides an opportunity that few cities have, whilst exploiting the harbour and its city views.Delivers a destination that is uniquely Sydney and provides a catalyst attractor to the Bays Precinct that would encourage further complimentary economic development of the area such as food markets (Power Station), gas-tronomy, fishing boats etc.Compliments tourist activities close to the White Bay Terminal.Internationally, there is a growing trend to provide exciting spaces and facilities, more up-market than the traditional market where fishermen sell their fish as the main activity.Today, global trends as illustrated in the images ( e.g New York, Copenhagen etc) in our attachment present up market, contemporary approaches that combine selling fish, with dining, other food stall, cooking courses, place to sit and enjoy the harbour- to celebrate where the fish come from- - with outstanding water views and prom-enade experiences. The improved site, on Glebe Island provides the ideal location for this.

Fisherman’s markets should be on or above clean waters, not dirty, polluted ones. The Living Bays concept we envisage encapsulates a transformed cleaner water environment in 20 years, where growing our own sea produce for market as occurs in Scandinavia would be an international draw card.

It improves the living environment for Pyrmont residents and will not impact upon other residents- e.g. Balmain, as the road, rail and fishing access is easier, and more direct than the current plan allows.

It makes a lot of sense to restrict, as far as possible, large boat movements into the Blackwattle Bay area.

This idea improve and greatly eases the existing and forecast traffic issues surrounding the fish markets where they currently are.

It improves the living environment for Pyrmont residents and will not impact upon other residents- e.g. Balmain, as the road, rail and fishing access is easier, more direct than the current plan allows. It makes a lot of sense to restrict as far as possible large boat movements into the Blackwattle Bay area.

This idea matches this criteria superbly- the existing location is compromised. This new location provides infinite possibilities, more space, more northern sun, easier boat traffic and access, and more integration with comple-mentary uses( including port activities). It also provides great skyline views, including the Harbour Bridge and its proximity to the (temporary) cruise terminal would be complimentary.

WHY?

HOW?

■ Easier access for boats going to the fish market – and reduce need for large boats in the smaller bay.

■ Enhances safety for recreational boat users (rowing) within Blackwattle Bay.

■ Enhances the marine environment of Blackwattle Bay by reducing traffic and reduces disturbances of pollutants within the bay.

■ Current Fish Market site is sub-standard for a world class amenity. It is confined by a motorway, noise pollution and has limited waterfront interface.

■ Allows the redevelopment of the new fish market without any disruption to the existing one.

■ Enhances safety for boat vessels by avoiding sub-standard passage through White Bay Island Bridge.

■ Less boats, less oil, cleaner way in the Bays- enabling recreation to dominate.

Note: we understand the need to retain the existing port facilities at White Bay, yet the whole site is not needed (as the current tempo-rary convention centre demonstrates). Sydney deserves a world class fish market and this is a unique opportunity.

■ Integrate the fish and food markets with some harbour activity, but give priority to the community.

■ Develop generous public green edge.
