Every day I would receive a phone call from my cement/fly ash hauler asking me what are the silo levels, How much we used What we are running tomorrow and from what silos. I decided that this was an opportunity to automate so I contacted our programmer and asked if this information could be either texted or emailed to certain recipients at a specific time each day excluding Sundays. So from there we added the programing and now both myself and the haler receive an email notification at 3:30 pm.

With the email notifications going out every day this allows us to be assured that we are always supplied with cement and fly ash without interruption. We get the correct product in the correct silos.

The auger being used makes a consistent sized lifthole. The tip allows the auger the push through the concrete without blowing out the inside of the pipe or box. It has also reduced the amount of time to make a lifthole considerably. We use the auger on all of the pipe made on our Hawkeye machine.

How did the Initiative Develop?: We were running some modified height boxes that the lift pins built into the top wall would not work with. We were spending about six minutes per top lifthole and blowing out the inside part every other hole. Mark looked for and bought an auger that was the size of our liftholes. He cut it down to fourteen inches as the thickest wall we run is twelve inches. The auger cut the time needed from six minutes to thirty seconds per hole. The employees using it prefer the auger to making the liftholes by hand.

How has the Initiative Benefited the Quality of Products or Otherwise: We use less patching material on our product now. It looks cleaner on the inside of the holes as well.
