BAPTISM OF THE LORD“It happened in those days that Jesus came to Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized in the Jordan by John. On coming up out of the water he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit, like a dove, descending upon him. And a voice came from the heavens, ‘You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.’” – Mark 1:9-11

WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT? – I have talked before about how my job as pastor is to remind all of you what is most important and most essential, which for Holy Angels is to save the souls of all in our parish boundaries and to become saints ourselves. The interesting thing about this is that we can only do this together. We cannot hope to bring people to Christ unless we as a parish are united. This idea of a parish working together is obviously hindered by COVID and everything that comes with it. Not to mention our human sinfulness and weakness. One thing that will be happening in the coming months is hopefully to improve our communications and this may mean that some things will work and look differently in the coming months. We have an example of this already. In the bulletin on the opposite side of this article you will find a list of events and happenings at Holy Angels for the week. I hope this will help give everyone a better sense of what is going on at Holy Angels along with an extra reminder. It will be easier to work together if we are on the same page. We will also be looking at ways to provide opportunities for parishioners to build relationships with one another. Again, this will be complicated by COVID but it is a hope of mine. I would also like to clarify the Church’s stance on the three major vaccines in development to prevent COVID-19. The vaccines available from Pfizer and Moderna are both morally licit. There is a possible connection in a confirmatory test done for these vaccines using a fetal stem cell line in which it is not clear if the fetal cells were taken from an aborted child or a miscarried child whose cells were donated by the mother. The confirmatory test was also done using lab animals modified by the cell line in question and not the cells themselves. Thus, the connection of these vaccines to abortion either does not exist or so remote that it is morally licit to receive the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. Morally licit means they are morally acceptable. Morally licit is different from morally obligatory which means one is obliged to take it. One can take the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines but does not have to receive a vaccine. The COVID vaccine developed by Astra Zeneca has direct connection to an aborted fetal cell line and thus, it is a morally compromised option and taking the Astra Zeneca vaccine is to be avoided. I hope this makes the situation a little clearer. I will try to update you all as other vaccines receive approval. I would like to thank Deacon Phil and Teresa Freisthler and their crews for all their help with the Christmas decorations. The Church looked beautiful. Fr. Hess also did a nice job of setting up the Holy Angels gym for the overflow Mass. Overall, my first Christmas went well, and I am grateful to all of you for your Christmas wishes and gifts. I am truly grateful and humbled to be your pastor. Peace in Christ,

    Fr. Jarred Kohn

ROSES BLOOMING IN DECEMBER FOR OUR BLESSED

    MOTHER!

"The Virgin held in her hands, at the height of her shoulders, a golden ball which she seemed to be offering to God as she raised her eyes to heaven. Her fingers were covered with rings whose precious jewels sparkled brilliantly and showered down innumerable rays of light on the globe beneath her feet, almost obscuring the view of her feet. Mary lowered her eyes and looked directly at Catherine. 'The ball which you see represents the world, especially France, and each person in particular. These rays symbolize the graces I shed upon those who ask for them. The jewels which give no rays symbolize the graces that are not given because they are not asked for.'"
