When I was a freshmen, a peer mentor from senior years helped me to get a preliminary understanding of the University and the School. In the Orientation camp, my group leaders and assistant group leaders took good care of me. Their companionship brought me joy and warmth, in which it allows me, as a freshman, to adapt quickly to university life.

The School has given me a chance to develop industry-relevant skills that will allow me to have a successful career in the future. Since I have a tight study schedule and often join extracurricular activities as well as student organizations, I have never felt homesick or bored during study periods. I have met so many people with different backgrounds here and gained valuable knowledge. There are professional facilities in the School and the academic staff do their very best to provide an engaging learning environment.

Global University Film Awards (GUFA) is a rare opportunity and platform for me to watch excellent student films from different countries. I really enjoyed the experience as I felt a sense of global connections to young filmmakers. There are some groundbreaking ideas which unlock my creativity as well.

Founded in 1968, the School of Communication of HKBU is one of the top communication schools in greater China with a full range of programmes at higher diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The School consists of the Academy of Film, the Department of Communication Studies, and the Department of Journalism.

The Bachelor of Communication (Hons) Programme offers a variety of ways to explore the exciting field of communication and prepare students for careers in the media or for postgraduate studies. The Bachelor of Fine Arts (Hons) in Global Acting Programme is designed to nurture all-round professional actors who are able to perform on various media from traditional stage performance to acting with technology.

Double Degree Programme with The University of Queensland in Australia 與澳洲昆士蘭大學合辦雙學位課程

The Double Degree Programme between the School of Communication, HKBU and Faculty of Humanities and Social Science, The University of Queenslandis a four-year full-time undergraduate programme whereby students study at and graduate from both universities.

香港浸會大學傳理學院與澳洲昆士蘭大學社會科學及人文學系合辦本科四年制雙學位課程，成功報讀的學生將分別於兩所大學上課及取得雙學位。

Around 9% of the 2018 graduate students chose to carry on studying. Over the years, among the communication professionals that the School has nurtured, many of them got admitted to top universities such as University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, Columbia University, Harvard University and Stanford University to pursue further studies.

I attended the Far East International Film Festival, Udine in Italy. Except for the great time of watching films, another unforgettable experience was the seminar hold by Director Mr. Roger Garcia. Mr. Garcia asked us a question that really put me into thinking: “Are you guys filmmakers?” I answered: “We are film students.” But after that, I rethought about it. Yes, we are film students, but we are also filmmakers. We should always proudly identify ourselves as a “filmmaker”.

Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) in Global Acting is a unique, international, interdisciplinary “state-of the-art” BFA programme, which combines acting training and performance studies, technology understanding and contemporary cultural reflection in its curriculum. It aims to be the most competitive undergraduate programme in acting performance, with cross-cultural and global enrichments that meet the needs of stage acting, acting with media technology and acting for screen in film industries. The Programme opens to local, non-local and international students.

The School has strong connections with the media and creative industry which offers lots of internship opportunities to our students.

I began my 3-month internship in mid-May at The New York Times right after the semester was over. I have been in charge of two roles in the global offices on the trending news around the world and keeping track of what the newsroom has achieved during the day. I have also gained several bylines working on stories by myself and also with my seniors.

After my second year at BU, I started an eight-week internship in a media company named Huanxi Media. It is known for producing “Dying to Survive”(我不是藥神), one of the most famous movies in China in 2018. During my internship there, I was responsible for writing the interim CSR report and helping to manage social media platforms. Although this job seems a little bit boring at the beginning, it is very meaningful for me and gives me a chance to learn from practice.

Since 2015, the School of Communication has established a solid “triangular relationship” with two world renowned universities, Leipzig University in Germany and Ohio University in the United States, both of which are leaders in the field of communication. There have been more than ten exchanges between the School, Leipzig University and Ohio University involving the three universities.

HKBU-Missouri Programme is the collaboration between the Department of Communication Studies and the University of Missouri. Students from both universities team up and work on a campaign project together for an international agency in Hong Kong.

Global University Film Awards (GUFA) 全球大學電影獎 strives to recognise globally the excellence of film productions by university students from across the world.
