WELCOMEThe Budvar Cheltenham Jazz Festival is once again delighted to host a huge fringe programme so kindly supported by Stuart Holmes. The vast majority of artists featured in this programme come from within a 50 mile radius of Cheltenham making this a celebration of locally produced music within the confines of the international festival. All artists are giving up their time free so you can enjoy this incredibly diverse line-up involving hundreds of musicians in over 20 venues without it costing you a penny in entry fees.

Outside on the streets you’ll also be able to see Youngblood Brass Band, Cleeve Samba School, 100’s of dancers and special busking spots (follow the footprints!) on the Promenade.

BUDVAR BREWED JAZZ COMPETITON

In association with Budweiser Budvar and The Morning Advertiser, Cheltenham Festivals has been running a pre-Festival competition to find the very best pub Jazz band in the UK. Nationally pubs and bars have been sending in entries for their band to win the chance to perform at the Festival. The competition has been causing great excitment in the pub industry with some very exciting new performers.

XPOSED CLUB AT UNIVERSITY OF GLOUCESTERSHIRE, PITTVILLE STUDIOSUrban Bushmen: A celebration of the music of the Art Ensemble of Chicago

Workshop, 12–2.30pm Project Improvisation at the Xposed Club invites all musicians of any standard to a workshop. This year we will explore the methods and music of the Art Ensemble of Chicago. The workshop leader will develop a piece for performance later in the evening. It will largely be improvised, but it will also make use of words, pre composed music and visuals to create an event in the spirit of the great Chicago ensemble, encompassing styles from across the spectrum of jazz, swing, rock, classical, Africa and the world.     Performance, 7pm Those of you who witnessed last year’s Sun Ra tribute will know that the for the Xposed club event will produce an evening of intensity, energy and great improvised music. This year the performance (based on the workshop earlier in the afternoon) will explore and celebrate the music of the Art Ensemble of Chicago. It will use words, and pre composed ideas as well as the talents of all the musicians to create an evening of Great British music.
