The Presenta on of the Lord Under the Mosaic Law, a woman was ritually “unclean” for 40 days a er childbirth, when she was to present herself to the priests and offer sacrifice—her “purifica on.” Contact with anyone who had brushed against mystery—birth or death—excluded a person from Jewish worship. This feast emphasizes Jesus’ first appearance in the Temple more than Mary’s purifica on. In Luke’s account, Jesus was welcomed in the temple by two elderly people, Simeon and the widow Anna. They embody Israel in their pa ent expecta on; they acknowledge the infant Jesus as the long-awaited Messiah. Early references to the Roman feast dub it the feast of Saint Simeon, the old man who burst into a song of joy which the Church s ll sings at day’s end.

This was found on the internet, are we guilty of any of them?? Things that need to stop happening at Mass: 1. Clapping during the Mass 2. Receiving from the cup when you are sick (Jesus is

present body, blood, soul, and divinity under either species alone) {Due to the Coronavirus please exercise extreme cau on, symptoms to watch for: respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath and difficulty breathing}

3. Wandering around during the sign of peace 4. Excessive socializing before Mass, we should be in

prepara on for the celebra on of the Mass 5. Not fas ng for one hour before Mass 6. Keeping your phone on when you go to Mass 7. Not dona ng to the support of the church 8. Leaving Mass early 9. Raised hands during the recita on of the Our Father (this

ac on is for the priest only) 10. Receiving Communion in the state of mortal sin (for

example: living in a marital rela onship without the sacrament of Matrimony, missing a weekend Mass without a valid reason)

11. Dressing immodestly 12. Chewing gum or ea ng 13. Not genuflec ng before entering the pew (if physically

unable to do this, a profound bow is acceptable) 14. Holding hands during the Our Father If we are guilty of any of these, let us stop and try to do be er.
