Brief 9:Structured Animation

22

Create a 30-second digital animation using software of your choice.

Audio:A soundtrack com-posed of ambient and spot/incidental/diagetic sounds you have collected. These sounds are to be structured around a slowed-down (50%) piece of music, which is to be removed from the mix when it has served its purpose as a structural model.

Video:Progressively rhythmic animated forms.

4 x 3-second sec-tions that have a strong visual rela-tionship but are not the same.

5 x 2-second sec-tions that have a strong visual rela-tionship but are not the same.

8 x 1-second sec-tions that have a strong visual rela-tionship but are not the same.

NO type.

Organise the sec-tions into a rhyth-mic structure of your choosing. Your work should max-imise the dynamics of REPETITION and VARIATION.

For the structured animation i decided to have starting theme of eighties vector style graph-ics. In this sense i wanted to use geometric shapes hard bold line work as the basis for the animation. Song wise i choose to do of a remix of a Sleigh Bells Song called “treats”. In keep-ing with the retro theme of my ani-mation i decided to sample short clips from the intros to eighties cartoons such as a trans-formers .....trans-forming noise.

For the short one second sections of the animation, i created a one sec-ond clip of a trian-gle pulsating. The triangular pulse took .25 seconds to go from the inner traingle to the outer triangle, making 4 pulses a second. I saved

this flash anima-tion with an alpha channel so i could layer the animation up in after effects without anything being blocked out. They ac-count for the eight one second clips.

The next part of the animation was intented to match up with the big drum hits in the sample. To achieve this i made the shapes in after ef-

fects and animated them using key-frames. These ani-mations accout for four of the two sec-ond clips and one of the three second clips.

The final animated motif involves the pyramid spinnin towards and away from the screen. This ac-counts for two of the three second clips and one of the two second clips.
