Environmental informationAll unnecessary packaging has been omitted.We have tried to make the packaging easy toseparate into three materials: cardboard (box),polystyrene foam (buffer) and polyethylene (bags,protective foam sheet).

Your system consists of materials which can berecycled and reused if disassembled by aspecialized company. Please observe the localregulations regarding the disposal of packagingmaterials, exhausted batteries and old equipment.

Safety information

Before operating the system, check that theoperating voltage indicated on the typeplate(or the voltage indication beside the voltageselector) of your system is identical with thevoltage of your local power supply. If not, pleaseconsult your dealer.

Place the system on a flat, hard and stablesurface.

Place the system in a location with adequateventilation to prevent internal heat build-up inyour system. Allow at least 10 cm (4 inches)clearance from the rear and the top of the unitand 5 cm (2 inches) from each side.

Do not expose the system, batteries or discs toexcessive moisture, rain, sand or heat sourcescaused by heating equipment or direct sunlight.

If the system is brought directly from a cold to awarm location, or is placed in a very damp room,moisture may condense on the lens of the discunit inside the system. Should this occur, the CDplayer will not operate normally. Leave thepower on for about one hour with no disc in thesystem until normal playback is possible.

When the system is switched to Standbymode, it is still consuming some power.To disconnect the system from thepower supply completely, remove the ACpower plug from the wall socket.

Making your own MP3-CD

1 Copy the music from your own Digital AudioCDs or download legal MP3 music from theInternet.

2 Record (“burn”) the music on a CD-R(W) discwith your home PC. Make sure to use arecording speed not faster than indicated on theCD-R(W) and avoid running other programssimultaneously on your PC during the recordingprocess.

Sound QualityTake note that MP3-CD compilations shouldbest contain only MP3 tracks (.mp3).To achieve a good MP3 quality, a bit rateof 128 kbps or higher is recommended.

Rear connections

The type plate is located at the rear of thesystem.

A Power

Before connecting the AC power cord to thewall outlet, ensure that all other connectionshave been made.

WARNING!– For optimal performance, use only theoriginal power cable.– Never make or change anyconnections with the power switched on.

To avoid overheating of the system, a safetycircuit has been built in. Therefore, yoursystem may switch to Standby modeautomatically under extreme conditions. Ifthis happens, let the system cool downbefore reusing it (not available for someversions).

B Antennas connection

Connect the supplied AM loop antenna and FMantenna to the respective terminals. Adjust theposition of the antenna for optimal reception.

Position the antenna as far as possible from a TV,VCR or other radiation source.

Front SpeakersConnect the speaker wires to the SPEAKERS(FRONT) terminals, right speaker to "R" and leftspeaker to "L", colored (marked) wire to "+"and black (unmarked) wire to "-".

Fully insert the stripped portion of the speakerwire into the terminal as shown.

Notes:– To avoid magnetic interference, do not positionthe front speakers too close to the PC monitor/TV.– For optimal sound performance, use thesupplied speakers.– Do not connect more than one speaker to anyone pair of +/- speaker terminals.– Do not connect speakers with impedance lowerthan the speakers supplied. 1 Connect your PC, gateway router andbroadband modem (cable/DSL) according to therouter’s setup instructions.

1 After the internet connectionhas proven to be working,connect the system to thegateway router with thesupplied cable.

Analog audio connections

AUX/CDR IN (R/L)Use a cinch cable to connect these terminals tothe analog audio out terminals of an externalequipment (TV, VCR, Laser Disc player, DVDplayer or CD Recorder), for listening to thissource.

LINE OUT (R/L)Use a cinch cable to connect these terminals tothe analog audio inputs of any analog audioequipment (amplifier/receiver or tape recorder,for example), for playback or performing analogrecording.

Notes:– Do not connect equipment to both theLINE OUT and AUX/CDR IN terminals at thesame time. Otherwise, noise will be generated andmalfunction might occur.– If you are connecting equipment with amonaural output (a single audio out terminal),connect it to the AUX/CDR IN left terminal.Alternatively, you can use a “single to double” cinchcable (the output sound will still remain mono).

Subwoofer out connection

Connect the subwoofer to the SUBWOOFEROUT terminal. The subwoofer reproduces justthe low bass sound effects (explosions or therumble of spaceships, for example).

Plug and Play

Plug and Play allows you to store all availableradio stations automatically.

First time setup/power up

1 When you turn on the power supply,"PRESS PLAY TO INSTALL TUNERPRESS PLAY TO INSTALL TUNERPRESS PLAY TO INSTALL TUNERPRESS PLAY TO INSTALL TUNERPRESS PLAY TO INSTALL TUNER" isdisplayed.

2 Press 22222 to start installation. "INSTALLING TUNERINSTALLING TUNERINSTALLING TUNERINSTALLING TUNERINSTALLING TUNER" is displayed, followedby "AUTO PROGRAM IN PROGRESS...AUTO PROGRAM IN PROGRESS...AUTO PROGRAM IN PROGRESS...AUTO PROGRAM IN PROGRESS...AUTO PROGRAM IN PROGRESS...". All available radio stations with sufficient signalstrength will be stored automatically, startingfrom FM and followed by AM band. When all the available radio stations arestored or the memory for 40 presets is used, thelast preset radio station will be played.

To reinstall Plug and Play

1 In standby mode, press and hold 22222 until "PRESSPRESSPRESSPRESSPRESS

PLAY TO INSTALL TUNERPLAY TO INSTALL TUNERPLAY TO INSTALL TUNERPLAY TO INSTALL TUNERPLAY TO INSTALL TUNER" is displayed.

2 Press 22222 again to start installation. All previously stored radio stations will bereplaced.

To exit without storing the Plug and Play Press Ç.

If you do not complete the Plug and Playinstallation, the function will be restarted whenyou next turn on the power supply again.

Notes:– When the power is turned on, the disc tray mayopen and close to initialize the system.– If no stereo frequency is detected duringPlug and Play, "CHECK ANTENNACHECK ANTENNACHECK ANTENNACHECK ANTENNACHECK ANTENNA" is displayed.– During Plug and Play, if no button is pressedwithin 15 seconds, the system will exit Plug andPlay mode.

Power saving automatic standbyAs a power-saving feature, the system willautomatically switch to Standby mode if you donot press any buttons within 30 minutes after adisc has stopped playing.

Dim modeYou can select the desired brightness for thedisplay.

Press DIM on the remote control repeatedly toselect DIM 1, DIM 2, DIM 3 or DIM OFF displaymode. DIM and the corresponding dim level willappear on the display, except for DIM OFF mode.

For optimal sound listening, you are onlyable to select BASS/TREBLE or wOOx at atime.

There are three wOOx settings to enhance thebass response.

Press wOOx repeatedly to select the nextwOOx level or switch the wOOx effect off :wOOx 1, wOOx 2, wOOx 3 or wOOx OFF. WOOX and the corresponding wOOx levelwill appear on the display, except for wOOxOFF mode.

Notes:– When switched off the wOOx effect, the lastBass/Treble will resume automatically.– Some discs might be recorded in highmodulation, which causes a distortion at highvolume. If this occurs, deactivate wOOx or reducethe volume.

Allows you to navigate through the contents ofthe currently selected source/service.

Loading disc

1 Press OPEN/CLOSEto open the disc tray.

2 Load in a disc with thelabel side facing up.

3 Press OPEN/CLOSEagain to close the disctray. The system detects the type of disc beingloaded, “CDCDCDCDCD” or “MP3 CDMP3 CDMP3 CDMP3 CDMP3 CD” is displayed. The system then starts to retrieve textinformation for the disc.

Notes:– To ensure good system performance, wait untilthe disc tray completely reads the disc beforeproceeding.– For MP3 discs, the disc reading time may exceed10 seconds due to the large number of songscompiled onto one disc.

Basic operations

Playing a disc

Press 2. If the disc contains more than 20 tracks, thesystem will not display the elapsed playing time.

To interrupt playback

Press Å. The current track time flashes.

To resume playback, press Å again.

To stop playback Press Ç.

Selecting a desired track/passage

To select a desired track– While playing

Press S or T (or ¡ / ™ on the remotecontrol) repeatedly until the desired track isdisplayed.

Random play

Tuning to radio stations

1 Press TUNER to select TUNER mode. "TUNERTUNERTUNERTUNERTUNER" is displayed. A few seconds later, thecurrent radio frequency will appear on thedisplay. If an FM station is received in stereo, isdisplayed.

2 Press TUNER again to select the desiredwaveband : FM or AM.

3 Press and hold S or T (or à / á onthe remote control) until the frequencyindication starts to change, then release. The display will show "SEARCHING...SEARCHING...SEARCHING...SEARCHING...SEARCHING..." untila radio station with sufficient signal strength isfound.

4 Repeat step 3 if necessary until you find thedesired radio station.

To tune to a weak station, press S or T(à / á) briefly and repeatedly until optimalreception found.

Storing favorite radio stationsYou can store up to 40 favorite radio stations inthe memory. Favorites is always on in Tuner mode.

Creating your user account

1 Go to “My.Philips.com” on the World WideWeb.

2 Follow the instructions and complete yourregistration details. Your account details will bee-mailed to you shortly.

Selecting a user account

1 Press USER on the remote control. The available user accounts will be displayed.

FavoritesIn any modes, you can easily manage your favoritetracks and stations by using the FAVORITES( ) and (UN)MARK ( ) buttons.

Creating your favorites list

This source enables you to connect externalsound devices and play the sound through yoursystem’s built-in speakers.

Connecting an external device

Connect the audio out terminals of the externaldevice to the AUX/CDR IN terminals of yoursystem.

Listening to an external source

1 Press AUX to select “AUXAUXAUXAUXAUX” when connected toa TV, VCR or Laser Disc player.OR

Press AUX again to select “CDR/DVDCDR/DVDCDR/DVDCDR/DVDCDR/DVD” whenconnected to a CD recorder or DVD player.

2 Play the external device.

When CDR/DVD mode is selected, any audioequipment connected to the LINE OUTterminals of this micro system will be muted.You will not be able to record or listen to thesound on equipment connected to the LINEOUT terminal.

Notes:– You are advised not to listen to and record fromthe same source simultaneously.– All the sound control features (INCR. SURR.,BASS/TREBLE, for example) are available forselection.– Refer to the operating instructions for theconnected equipment for details.

To clean a CD, wipe it in a straightline from the center toward theedge using a soft, lint-free cloth. Acleaning agent may damage thedisc! Write only on the printedside of a disc and only with a softfelt-tipped pen.

Clean the system with a soft,slightly dampened, lint-freecloth. Do not use anycleaning agents as they mayhave a corrosive effect.

IMPORTANT!When in Eco Power standby mode, it isnot possible to operate the clock ortimer function.

View clock

The clock (if it is set) will be shown in standbymode.

To view the clock in any source mode(CD or TUNER for example)

Press CLK/TIMER on the remote control. The clock is displayed for a few seconds. If the clock has not been set, "--:----:----:----:----:--" isdisplayed.

Clock setting

The clock can be set in either 12-hour or24-hour mode ("12:00 AM12:00 AM12:00 AM12:00 AM12:00 AM" or "00:0000:0000:0000:0000:00", forexample).

1 In standby or view clock mode, pressCLK/TIMER once. In the other source mode,press CLK/TIMER twice. "12:00 AM12:00 AM12:00 AM12:00 AM12:00 AM" or "00:0000:0000:0000:0000:00" starts flashing.

2 Press the left hand soft key (@) to select 12- or24- hour clock mode.

3 Press S or T (or ¡ / ™ on the remotecontrol) to switch between hour or minutessetting. The hour or minutes digits flash.

4 Use the navigation jog (or press 3 / 4 on theremote control) to set the hour and minutes.

5 Press CLK/TIMER again to store the setting. The clock starts working.

To exit without storing the setting Press Ç.

Notes:– The clock setting will be cancelled when thepower cord is disconnected or if a power failureoccurs.– During clock setting, if no button is pressedwithin 90 seconds, the system will exit clock settingmode automatically.

Timer setting

The system can switch on to CD, TUNER,CONNECT or PC-LINK mode automaticallyat a preset time, serving as an alarm to wakeyou up.

IMPORTANT!– Before setting the timer, ensure thatthe clock is set correctly.– The timer will always be switched onafter it has been set.– The volume of the timer will increasegradually from the minimum level to thelast tuned volume level.– The system will switch to standbymode if no button is pressed within 30minutes after timer wake up.

2 Press CD, TUNER, CONNECT or PC-LINKto select the desired source. For CD mode, the timer will wake up byplaying the first track of the disc or favorite list. Ifthe disc tray is empty, it will switch to Tunermode. For Tuner mode, the timer will wake up byplaying the last tuned radio station. For CONNECT or PC-LINK mode, the timerwill wake up by playing the last streamed music.If the connection fails, it will switch to Tunermode.

3 Press S or T (or ¡ / ™ on the remotecontrol) to switch between hour or minutessetting. The hour or minutes digits flash.

4 Use the navigation jog (or press 3 / 4 on theremote control) to set the hour and minutes.

5 Press CLK/TIMER to store the timer. "TIMERTIMERTIMERTIMERTIMER", the set timer "XX:XXXX:XXXX:XXXX:XXXX:XX" and theselected source will be displayed. remains on the display.

At the preset time, the selected sound sourcewill play.

To exit without storing the setting Press Ç.

Checking the timer

Press CLK/TIMER once on the remotecontrol. If the timer has been activated, the set timerinformation is displayed.

Activate/deactivate the timer

Press TIMER ON/OFF repeatedly on theremote control. If activated, the last set timer information isdisplayed for a few seconds. If deactivated, “TIMER OFFTIMER OFFTIMER OFFTIMER OFFTIMER OFF” is displayed.

Sleep timer setting

The sleep timer enables the system to switch tostandby mode automatically at a preset time.

1 Press SLEEP on the remote control repeatedlyto select a preset time. The selections are as follows (time inminutes):

GENERAL

The system does not react when buttons – Remove the AC power plug for one minute.are pressed. Then reconnect and switch on the system again.

Sound cannot be heard or is of poor – Adjust the volume.quality. – Disconnect the headphones.

– Check that the speakers are connected correctly.– Check if the stripped speaker wire is clamped

into the speaker terminal.– Make sure the MP3-CD was recorded within

32-256 kbps bit rate with sampling frequenciesat 16 kHz, 22.05 kHz, 48 kHz, 44.1 kHz or32 kHz.

The left and right sound outputs are – Check the speaker connections and location.reversed.

The remote control does not function – Select the source (CD or TUNER, for example)properly. before pressing the function button (É,í,ë).

– Reduce the distance between the remotecontrol and the system.

– Insert the batteries with their polarities(+/– signs) aligned as indicated.

– Replace the batteries.– Point the remote control directly toward the

IR sensor on the front of the system.
