USAirForce 557th WeatherWingmaintainsawebsitewithmanyoperationalproductsbothonterrestrialasonspaceweather.Theoperationalholygrailforthemilitaryarestoplightcharts,indicatingiftheimpactoftheenvironmentonassetsoroperationsarefavourableorunfavourable.SuchchartsexistforSpaceWeathertoo.WewillusethesechartstohelpyouunderstandhowEVENTScanbetranslatedtoIMPACTS.
DirectrelationshipsbetweenEVENTSand IMPACTSarehardtogive.Nonetheless,physicalreasoning,feedbackandcasestudiesareagoodguidance.ThecominghourweinterpretthesesocalledstoplightchartsbyAFWAtolearnmoreaboutthisrelationshipandgetafeelingforit.

SolarFlareAsolarflareisanexplosivereleaseofenergyacrossabroadrangeoftheelectromagneticspectrum.Thisenergyisstoredinintensemagneticfieldsnearthesolarsurface,orphotosphere(sunspots)orincoronalactiveregions.Significantemissionsincludex-rays,extremeultravioletwaves,radiobursts(seebelow).
