Keep your home safe“Homesecurity ismore than securingyourproperty and safeguarding your family.“It includes the safety of your domestic

staff who are often home alone for hoursat a time while the family is at work andat school.”This was the message communicated at

a Stellenbosch Watch’s “Eden and Eve”workshop that was held at the WelgelegenNG Church in Brandwacht on 25 March.ADT Security community development

manager, Patrick Hall, addressed about 50people including domestic workers, gar-denersandhomeowners toraiseawarenessabout crime and to equip themwith adviceto enhance their safety.“Insomecaseswehave foundthatdomes-

to clear up this kind of misunderstandingand toansweranyquestionsoraddressanyconcerns that they may have,” said Hall.He explained how to identify an ADT /

Stellenbosch Watch officer and spoke atlength about measures domestic workersor gardeners can take to feel safer whilecommuting to and fromwork, andwhile onduty.

“Domestic workers or gardeners whoseemployerssubscribe toStellenboschWatchcanrequest the ‘Meet-and-Greet’ service fora dedicated vehicle to accompany them ifthey feel unsafe while walking to work ear-ly in themorningor to public transport latein the afternoon or evening,” said Hall“Exchange cell phone numbers with oth-

them know that you are home alone.”Hall also advised homeowners to talk

about security and safety issues with yourdomestic worker and / or gardener.“Teachyourdomesticworkerhowtoarm

and disarm the alarm; ideally they shouldhave their own password and code.“Have a safe room that can be used in an

emergency. Itmustbe equippedwithadoorthat can be locked from the inside, a tele-phone and a panic button.”Chairperson of the Stellenbosch CPF,

Roelof van der Merwe, also attended theworkshop and stressed the importance ofresidents’ involvement inefforts to root outcrime.“Therearemoreofusthantherearecrim-

At the “Eden and Eve” workshop were (at the back, from left) Stellenbosch CPF chairperson, Roelofvan der Merwe, Stellenbosch Watch’s Leon van Niekerk and ADT Security’s Patrick Hall with someof the attendees of the SBW’s workshop in front.

“We thought that getting all our tal-ented winemakers out of the cellar af-ter a busy harvest and into a differentplaying field would be a great way tohave some well-deserved fun,” saidCarolyn Clark of the foundation.“Some of the farms feel there isstrength in numbers and have enteredtheir colleagues as ‘side-kicks’ to sup-port, or challenge the winemaker.“We even have Raphael Dornier,

ownerofDornierWines taking theoth-
