Maree most recently has held the position of Uniform Shop Supervisor and in this role has worked in several locations and with a range of uniform providers, dealing calmly with changing circumstances and busy timelines. Maree has always been a welcoming face of the school to new students and their families and her wise advice has guided seven principals in decision-making with regard to what will work for the College uniform and book supplies. Maree has also been a great model of citizenship and volunteering, receiving a Warringah Council Citizen of the Year (2007) award, and volunteering for the Scouts and Australia Day celebrations. She will be missed by students, parent volunteers and staff, and I thank her for her dedication to the College over many years. Best Wishes I would like to wish Fleur Tichelaar all the best as she starts Maternity Leave. Fleur is my dedicated Executive Assistant and College Board Secretary. She will be missed by all the Stella staff who depend on her reliability, confidentiality, good humour and resilience. Good luck Fleur and we hope to see photos of your new bub soon. Outreach 2019 During the holidays Ms Foss and five Year 11 girls: Jasmine Costello, Ella McMahon, Holly Horswill, Annabelle Gilbert and Emily Moy, will be attending the Good Samaritan Ministry Outreach in Sydney. Over the week the girls will attend service sites and engage in debriefing and reflection sessions on the experiences. In small groups, accompanied by a teacher, they will visit two different agencies, such as soup kitchens, nursing homes, disability workplaces and refugee centres in the Sydney area. By the end of the week, hopefully they come away with a sense of what the agency provides and for whom; and will have had the opportunity to interact with a range of clients and carers. We wish these girls well in their community work and thank them for their commitment to Good Samaritan Ministries during their holiday break. As winter temperatures fall, I invite families to explore the opportunity for wider learning with your daughters that time away from school offers. It is a perfect time to visit the Art Gallery and the Australian Museum. The break provides the opportunity to read a whole series of books that your daughter has gathered from the library this week. Buying a beginner’s Sudoko book could spark a new interest in numbers and it is never too early to learn the skills of cryptic crosswords or chess. Just ask the girls’ grandparents for some clues about where to start.

Heading outdoors for some bushwalking might engage a deeper understanding of the environment and the geology that shapes our amazing Australian landscape. Devising a recycling plan for home could provide your daughters with some input into making the world a better place.

For our Year 12 students, this holiday break is a great time to get organised and prepared for the Trial Examinations. It is the time to write up some additional study notes or to spend an afternoon with study buddies on a challenging practice task. A visit to the State Library or our local library can result in some great research that might give your daughter the edge in her next assessment.

Finally, I hope that Netflix, Stan and Foxtel don’t become the default go-to for the girls in the break. Stay strong and encourage them to put down their phone and embrace self-directed activities.

All students performed to such a high standard and were very professional in dealing with technical issues. It was lovely to see so many students involved and enjoying performing with friends. A particular mention to the Performance Group for whom it was their first time on stage and what a fabulous performance they presented. Well done to everyone, I am so very proud of you! I look forward to the Semester 2 Dance Night in Term 4 and I think we will have to sell allocated seating on Trybooking due to the incredible number of people who came to see the show.

Dance Company The Dance Company competed in their first competition last month – The IRBD Challenge (I’d Rather be Dancing) – with fantastic results! The routines were still very fresh and need some more polish but it was a great way to start the competition season which will continue next term. All routines placed but the standout performance of the day was the Jazz Company “Light Em Up” which was fast paced, strong and powerful! Well done girls!

Performance Group The Performance Group for Semester 1 is now finished and a new Performance Group will start for Semester 2. If you were involved in Semester 1 you are more than welcome to continue attending in Semester 2 at no extra cost. If you haven’t been attending and would like to start please come along to rehearsals on the second Tuesday back – 31 July – and join in the fun. There will be a cost to join the group which pays for your costume.

REHEARSALS – Tuesdays at Lunch in the Dance Studio 1.30pm – 2.15pm

Other News I wish Jenna Keenan of Year 8 all the very best as she heads over to Portugal to represent Australia in the World Title for Dance. Jenna will be competing in all styles of dance including Lyrical, Contemporary, Jazz, Hip Hop and Broadway, during the holidays, for a chance to bring home the world title in her age group. An outstanding achievement which Jenna has been working very hard to reach. All the best of luck Jenna!

I would also like to congratulate Breeana Burns of Year 11 who recently auditioned and was accepted into the Jason Coleman Ministry of Dance MODstar Program. This involves 5 trips to Melbourne where she will train under the guidance of Jason Coleman and industry professionals, with a focus on Jazz and Commercial Jazz, in preparation for full time Dance study. This is an incredible opportunity for Breeana to prepare and gain insight into a career as a dancer and will be most valuable in her dance development.

Lily Boffa of Year 11 is also to be congratulated on being accepted into the Locreado Touring Company. Lily will be performing Lyrical/Contemporary shows in Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide throughout the year with 10 other dancers who were selected from the Locreado Program earlier in February. Working in a professional touring company environment is the perfect experience in order to transition into a career in dance and I congratulate Lily on her achievement with Locreado.
