oncise, clearly-structured andgoal-oriented communication –these are the most important

features of PIP (Parallel IndicationPanel).

“It is notnecessary forthe people ina buildingto have allinformation that a fire-alarmpanel can offer,” says RenéTürk, product manager forfire alarm panels at SchrackSeconet, outlining the benefitsof PIP. “Often it is enoughto know what goes on in one’s closesurroundings.” PIP, the first control panelthat comes in a stylish plastic case and

which is equipped with a user interfacedesigned like the standard control panelIntegral MAP, meets these expectations.

As a cost-optimized control-panel,Integral PIP can be programmed to showonly information that is relevant for thesurrounding area, for instance as a floorterminal.

Of course, Integral PIP is available inall Integral language versions and meets

he 15 000 visitors to the “SKYDD”“SKYDD”, which is heldevery two years, showed a keen interest in the systemsolutions of Schrack Seconet.

Sweden’s largest fire alarm fair was held in September inStockholm. Our team at the fair was pleased to welcome manylong-standing partners of Schrack Seconet. And, at the sametime, many important new contacts could be established aswell. Naturally, visitors were extremely interested in thenew fire alarm system, Integral IP, withits unique networking and connectionoptions using TCP/IP, as well as the smokeaspiration system AIRSCREEN ASD 535,with its high dynamic sensor and itsmultiple applications.

WORLDWI DE

T“Security” in Essen is another biennial trade fair. In

October, experts from all over the world got together to inspectthe innovations in preventive fire protection. Schrack Seconetmade quite an impression and defended its reputation asinnovation and technology leader. For the first time all the

new highlights of the Integral IP systemfamily – the mesh network Integral LAN, thepowerful Integral X-Line, the multilingualcontrol panel Integral MAP and the innovativesoftware Integral Application Center – werepresented at one location.

And finally, in November, the world forum in the field ofhealthcare, the “Medica”“Medica”, was held in Düsseldorf. At this fairSchrack Seconet presented its Seco CareNET philosophy basedon VISOCALL IP. The great variety of multimedia options fordoctors, nursing staff and patients was highly acclaimed. Twoinnovations, which further improve the system, were presentedto the experts. The redundant switch is designed to makefailures impossible and enables insular solutions within existingsystems. With the Logical Delivery Point higher flexibility canbe achieved for addressing existing networks. The system totallycomplies with the strict specifications of VDE 0834 and, ofcourse, has been certified accordingly.

lready in September 2006 the 186 member countriesof the international police organization Interpol

decided to establish an anticorruption academyas a training facility for anticorruption fighters.

On September 2, 2010, the vision turnedinto reality. After extensive preparatory workand adaptations to the building destinedto become the home of the Academy, theInternational Anticorruption Academy (IACA)was opened. The positive fact for Austria isthat the Academy is based at Palais Kaunitzin Laxenburg, a few kilometres to the southof Vienna. The inaugural conference itself washeld at the Hofburg in Vienna.

AUNO starts to fight corruption

Intensiveautumn of fairs

Just how important this topic is for the internationalcommunity of states can be seen from the fact that UNOSecretary General Ban Ki-moon was present for theinauguration ceremony. After all, billions and billions of

dollars are lost to the states and individualtax payers every year. Therefore, corruptionposes a threat to stability, since people nolonger put their trust in the systems. InLaxenburg judges, attorneys, investigators andother fighters against corruption from allcountries receive further training and theopportunity to exchange ideas.

Schrack Seconet has equipped the Academyboth with a CCTV system and with an accesscontrol system.

This triumphant success continues also apartfrom the European Championship. The renowned

football club Legia Warszawa moved into a new,state-of-the-art stadium in 2010 and Warsawas well has put its trust in the Austrian marketleader by choosing Integral fire alarm systems.

In the spring of 2010 the installation of the fire alarmsystem in the Stozice football stadium in Ljubljana, Slovenia, could be completed in only three months in cooperationwith our partner company, Iskrasistemi. The nationalstadium, which accommodates about 16 000 people, hasbeen equipped with two large Integral fire alarm panelsand about 1000 MTD 533 detectors. In addition, largeareas are now protected with SPC-E linear smokedetectors and 20 ventilation duct detectorsmonitor cable and ventilation ducts.

And the offensive in football stadiums is stillgoing on. In Bucharest, the Romanian capital, anotherfootball stadium will be protected by Schrack Seconet firealarm systems. Installation work has begun in the autumnof 2010. In Romania’s largest stadium, with a capacityof more than 55 000 people, 2500 MTD 533 detectors, six Integral fire alarm panels and two high-end controlpanels will offer reliable security. A delegation of ourpartner company, UTI Instal Construct, assured themselvesabout the excellent services Schrack Seconet had alreadyperformed in Warsaw and Poznan, and was quiteenthusiastic about our work.

chrack Seconet has a great reputation for equippingfootball stadiums with fire alarm systems. In2008, therefore, we were commissioned to

install fire alarm systems at Ernst Happel Stadion inpreparation of the European Football Championship. And Schrack Seconet will also play a role in the nextEuropean Championship which is scheduled to takeplace in Polandand Ukrainein 2012.

This year wehave installed anew fire alarmsystem in the EURO 2012 stadium of Poznan. In Gdanskone of four EURO 2012 stadiums, designed for an audienceof 44000, will be built within a period of only 2 years andwill be opened in mid-2011. And also in the northernmostpart of Poland fire alarm systems from Schrack Seconet werechosen to provide optimum protection. 5 Integral fire alarmpanels and 2000 fire detectors will monitor the entire stadiumduring the group playoffs and the quarter final. And the nextgoal was scored immediately afterwards. The investors of theEM2010 stadium at Wroclaw have opted for Integral as well.

he South-Korean company Hankook Tire isamong the world’s largest tire producers. Itsproducts are exported to over 180 countries

and it employs 14,000 people. In 2007, Hankook Tireopened its first European plant in Rácalmás,Hungary. The plant is considered the mostadvanced worldwide. In this town, situatedin the center of Hungary, 1200 employeesproduce 5000 tires for passenger cars andHGVs every day. Schrack Seconet hasequipped the plant with state-of-the-artfire protection systems and has installed nine fire alarmpanels as well as 1110 fire detectors of type MTD 533.

In 2009, the Hankook Tire management decided toexpand its Rácalmás plant and invested a total of 230 millioneuros for this purpose. In this second construction stage the

main building is expanded. Byestablishing six additional annexes, capacities will be increased. Theseannexes are quite impressive, lastbut not least because of theirextraordinary height of 33 meters.108 smoke aspiration systems will

be installed in these high structures, and 3800 MTD 533detectors have been selected for the lower ones.

y the end of 2010 the venerableprivate hospital Maria Hilf inKlagenfurt will shine in new

splendour. Renovation of the buildingwas started in 2009 and will bring aboutan all-encompassing modernization ofthis private hospital. In the course of thisrenovation also a communication systemfrom Schrack Seconet will be installed.

The hospital with its 160 bedsand four operating theatres will set thebenchmark in terms of technology andconvenience. Highly-functional treatmentrooms and state-of-the-art therapeutictreatments are designed to speed uphealing processes, while spacious single anddouble rooms, a restaurant and a terracecafe make the stay in the hospital agreeablefor patients. To meet the high informationand communication requirements theresponsible managers of Maria Hilf haveopted for Seco CareNET®, which is based onthe philosophy of a networked hospital.Following international and nationaltrends in the health sector, VISOCALL IPprovides patients with highly advancedIP technology with various multimediaservices, such as TV, radio or film. Sinceeach bed is equipped with a multimediaterminal, each patient also has multipleentertainment options to choose from. Inthis perfectly networked private hospitaldoctors and nursing staff also have access tothe Hospital Information System (HIS) bymeans of a chipcard and via the terminals. In this way all patient data are available tothem, which ensures both a well-structuredinformation flow for doctors and nursingstaff and the fast meeting of patientrequests. Thanks to Seco CareNET®, theprivate hospital Maria Hilf is an examplefor the perfect implementation of the“networked hospital”.

The clinical center Klagenfurt, situated near Wörthersee, has a longtradition. As early as in 1886 health serviceswere offered at this location. In 2006 therestructuring, which had been planned for

some time, and which was designed to turnthe agglomeration of 35 buildings, connectedby paths of a total lengths of ten kilometres, into a spacious, ultramodern hospitalcomplex, was started. An unpretentiousbut functional architecture with many glassfacades, an interior design following feng-shui principles and a finely-tuned colourand lighting systemcharacterise the newhospital. About 78,000patients receive in-house treatment inthis regional hospitaland about 300,000get ambulant treatment. Given this greatnumber of patients, a reliable communicationsystem is a must and this is exactly whereSchrack Seconet comes in. All in all,45 ward terminals, 676 communicationsterminals and 745 patient terminals havebeen installed. VISOCALL IP makespossible a seamless communication networkbetween all people, rooms and facilitiesand therefore considerably facilitateseveryday routines for patients and staff. In the spring of 2010 the great day hadcome – the hospital was opened in a grandceremony and the largest VISOCALL IPproject to date went live.

he steel industryis among the

oldest branches of industry in industrializedsociety and continues to be an economically-

relevant factor. Steel can be applied universally. Itcan be bent and shaped and, depending on thealloy used and the way it is processed, it can behard or soft, thick or thin. Even in the 21st century, this material, with its long tradition of use, is oneof the most important materials for manufacturing

a wide variety of goods.Steel plants are important

production units. They still have something mysticalabout them with their primeval power, blazing fires, high temperatures, rough manufacturing conditions, forms shaped by fire, and workers who take pridein what they do. After all, steel is a product thatcreates power and influence. Metallurgical processingof iron has been known since 2000 BC in whatwas then the kingdom of the Hittites.

ven though the order volume in thesteel industry has somewhat decreased

due to the financial crisis in 2008,this sector is still of decisive importancefor industry. On a global scale per-capitaconsumption is estimated to amount to190 kg/year. In 2010 about 1.3 billion tonsof steel are being produced. In 2009, thissector manufactured some 200 million tons

of crude steel in the EU-27 and providedemployment for about 400 000 people. Steelis used in a great variety of fields, the maincustomers of this highly-flexible materialbeing the building and construction industryand the automotive industry.

Steel – a versatile product

Steel is an alloy, i.e. a composition metal, which is created by melting several substances.Today there are 2,500 standardized types ofsteel worldwide. Steel is elastic, but also robustand resistant, which makes it a popular basicmaterial. In Europe, steel production datesback to the beginnings of the Iron Age, about800 BC, when the Celts discovered the firstdeposits of iron ore in Austria and hardenediron by heating it. Weapons, tools but alsoornaments were manufactured from the rawmaterial iron. There is evidence that the Swedesinvented the blast furnace in the 13th century. From that time onwards production developedslowly but continuously. However, it was onlywith the beginning of the industrial age thatthe great steel boom started. New inventions

and technological developments by turns gavenew impetus to this boom. To be able totransport the increasing volumes of coal, ironand steel, railways and tracks became necessary. And, thanks to the progress made in the steelmanufacturing industry, the quality of theseproducts improved considerably as well. Steelgot to be used also in mass production. Today, steel is still a basic material, which meetschanging requirements, because manufacturingprocesses keep developing and the mostadvanced technology is used.

International manufacturersrely on Schrack Seconet

Schrack Seconet has excellent references inthis industrial sector, both on a national andon an international level. The systems andsolutions of Schrack Seconet have been inuse for decades even in the most difficultindustrial environments and comply withall international and national standards andregulations. Therefore, also the steel industryputs its trust in the excellent fire protectionsolutions of our company. Steel plants inAustria, Poland, Czech Republic, Ukraineand Russia are protected by Schrack Seconetfire alarm systems.

Since November 16, 1933, the Ukrainianfactory Zaporozhstahl has been manufacturinghigh-quality steel products. The companyhas an annual output of 2,730 tons of castiron, 3,280 tons of steel and 2,750 tons ofrolling stock. In 1998, Schrack Seconet firealarm systems were installed to providepreventive fire protection. In cooperation withour partner SCI in Zaporozhye, five fire alarmpanels and 2,500 fire detectors were installedin the factory work floors, storerooms andbasement halls. The plant is continuouslybeing modernized and the high-quality firealarm systems of Schrack Seconet meet therequirements exactly.

The origins of the venerable steel plant,ArcelorMittal Ostrava, date back quite sometime. The company was founded in 1942and, since its takeover by the transnationalArcelorMittal Group in 2006, which is underIndian management, has been part of thelargest steel-producing companies of theworld. From 1992 onwards, the factory hasbeen protected against fires by systems fromSchrack Seconet. The steel plant is equippedwith 24 fire alarm panels and 6,500 detectors, which are continuously upgraded.

Another project was implemented atTechnopark in Kaluga, some 150 kilometersfrom the Russian capital Moscow. A jointventure was established between the Russiansteel giant Severstal and the Spanishcomponent supplier Gestamp Automocion.Schrack Seconet has equipped the factorywith a fire alarm panel and some 800 firedetectors. In addition, an Integral fire alarmpanel monitors several IT rooms. In thisfactory mainly components for the Volkswagenproduction plant, which is located nearby, are manufactured. In the near future thecompany will also be a supplier of the Peugeot-Citroen plant.

For 15 years now fire alarm systems ofSchrack Seconet have been used at theSendzimira steel plant near Cracow inSouthern Poland. We have always used thelatest technology – from the first BMZMaxima to the Integral Evolution. All firealarm panels of the various generations arenetworked redundantly.

high-speed steel, high-quality structural steel, valve steel as well as forged components.BÖHLER UDDEHOLM supplies about100,000 customers with its high-qualityproducts. The most important customersare engine builders, energy producers, theautomotive industry, the aviation and aircraftindustries, manufacturers of consumer goodsand the construction industry. In the Ybbstal,Lower Austria, three fire alarm panels oftype Integral, 240 smoke detectors and tenASD 516 smoke aspiration systems of SchrackSeconet protect the production hall, the highbay racking, the oil filter plant, the steel mill,as well as offices and training rooms. Whenan alarm is triggered, the in-house fire brigadewill be notified immediately. All the fire alarmpanels are networked. In this way it isguaranteed that fires will be detected in duetime.

Also several voestalpine plants are protectedby fire alarm systems of Schrack Seconet. Inthe VOEST factories in Zeltweg, Bruck ander Mur, Leoben and Kindberg fire alarmpanels and detectors have been installed. AtVoestalpine Leoben Donawitz, 31 Integralsystems and more than 3000 detectors makesure that the working environment is safe.

Stahl Judenburg GmbH not only has a firealarm system but also a sophisticated accesscontrol and CCTV system, both developed bySchrack Seconet. About 45 doors are controlledin a mixed-mode operation of IT networkLAN and RS 485 data bus. Employees canaccess by means of a card or a person-relatedcode. Visitors and suppliers receive codes withone-day validity, which can be independentlygenerated by the department managers fortheir areas of responsibility and a period to befreely defined. The main entrance ways and

the emergency entranceare monitored by meansof a CCTV-system. Thefact that the entranceways are used jointlybut administrated independently by severalcompanies constituted a particular challengein this project. Apart from Stahl JudenburgGmbH also the companies Wuppermann,Styria Federn and Rocomor are based onthe premises. Stahl Judenburg, Wuppermannand Styria Federn now have one independentaccess system each, which, however, is jointlyused by the readers at the entrance. Moreover, the three companies jointly use the serverfor video number plate recognition. Theyaccess the server as independent tenants viathe Internet. So far, this kind of multitenancyis unique in Austria.

far from saturated. Therefore, there is room forgrowth in this sector as well.

F&C: What do you think of the current marketsituation in India? Is there a demand for Europeanproducts?

Guglani: We see an enormous development onthe Indian market. At present it is first andforemost US products that are in high demandin many areas and often products have to beapproved according to US rules and standards. We are working hard to establish European,or more specifically, our Austrian products, and

he function of AIRSCREEN ASD 535 is basedon the principle of a continuous sampling of airfor smoke particles. Via one or, if required, also two

suction lines a high-performance ventilator continuouslysamples the air in the room or facility and supplies thesesamples to the high dynamic sensor SSD 535, which wasspecifically developed for this purpose. This smoke detector, which is integrated in the ASD 535,detects even the tiniest smoke particles and therefore alsoglowing and smouldering fires at the earliest time possible. The sensitivity range for analysis can be set individually.A potential concentration of smoke or statuses whichdeviate from the standard status are analysed accuratelyand sent to the fire alarm panel. AirSCREEN is used where

Guglani: I am really looking forward to thelaunch of INTEGRAL IP on the internationalmarket, starting from the end of 2010. Weare also cooperating with importantinstitutions, such as Engineers India Limited, for an approval of some of our systems. I thinkwe will have very positive results in this fieldin future. Schrack Seconet will keep ongrowing in India and I am certain that wewill win a lot of new orders.

F&C: Which projects were the most importantones in India in the past? Is there a particularbranch of industry where Schrack Seconet hasbeen particularly successful?

Guglani: It is difficult to single out individualprojects, as we work in many sectors and allprojects that we have carried out so far havebeen equally important to us. We make no

difference between our customers. No matterwhether it is a small or a large project, wealways take our task very seriously. But let

me mention just a few of some widely-knowbuildings which we have equipped with firealarm systems: the six towers of Lanco Hills, the largest residential project in the world, and the French Consulate in Mumbai as wellas the IOCL refinery in Assam. Schrack Seconethas installed its products in a great numberof shopping centers, office buildings, chemicalplants, hospitals and 20 different power plants, among others India’s largest utility NTPC.Our range of products is very large andtherefore Schrack Seconet India is in a positionto serve a great variety of customers.
