1. Defer the onset of alcohol and tobacco use.

• Advocacy: the act of pleading for, supporting or recommending. EDUCATE– Have I ever advocated?
• Everyone is an advocate for something.
• Why advocate?– Good for our community– Well being for future generations– The more you advocate, the more you are recognized.– And who knows, you may have gained your royal position for a time

Lobbying vs. Advocacy
• Lobbying: activities that ask legislators to take a specific position on a specific piece of legislation, or urge others to do the same (IRS definition for nonprofits).
• Advocacy: any activity that a person or organization undertakes to influence policy - includes educating, providing information, arguing a cause.
• (Most work happens before a bill is introduced)
