DONATETODAY

First have an area away from other pets While it is import-ant to slowly and carefully introduce fosters to other people animals sounds and scents please make sure to have space where they can have time to decompress

This space should be easy to sanitize and clean

For cats a large walk-in bathroom would work just fine Dogs will need a bigger room

Now for the fun part how much will this cost me Nothing

All we ask is that you bring your foster back for exams and other medical appointments

In Raina Davedukrsquos case she received orphan kittens who were hissy at first but through picking them up and slowly exposing them to her pets those kittens left her house ready to take on any animal or person

emplifies these qualities and always goes above and beyond to help the animals Irsquod like to introduce you to Jack Knue

Jack is currently a regular volunteer at the SPCArsquos horse barn but has been associated with the Medina County SPCA since 2011 Over the past ten years he has helped with a number of activities fund raising event meetings adoptions dog walking and currently our beloved horses You can usually find him at the barn on Wednesday Thurs-day and Saturday mornings Fresh water and hay check cleaning out stalls and the arena check making sure our horses are taken care of in the best possible way absolute-ly Plainly put the horses love Jack Even our feistier ones (I think we all know who I am talking about) look forward to Jackrsquos weekly visits Always going beyond he will also tend to the horses that are sick whether itrsquos cleaning out hooves or applying medicine he truly cares Ever modest Jack credits his talents with the training he was given when he first started working with the horses While maybe so itrsquos Jackrsquos continued commitment to the horsersquos care and wellbeing that make him a such a great volunteer

Jack has lived a storied life Born in Indiana and raised in the southwest Chicago suburbs he spent almost 30 years living in Alaska An Airforce veteran his adult children continue to live there with his grandchildren and he visits as often as he can He currently lives in Medina with his beloved Marlene a rescue dog and two rescue cats Spend some time with Jack and you wonrsquot regret it His stories are fun fascinating and you might learn a thing or two maybe about the game of Hockey or that it is possible and quite doable to drive from Medina County Ohio to Alaskahellip Jackrsquos done it many times

From this writer to the Board of Directors to all of the Medi-na County SPCA we honor our Volunteer of the Year Jack Knue and thank him for his service and dedication to what itrsquos all about the animals

Jack KnueHorse Whisperer

Carla Boyle Small

It is no secret that the Medina County SPCA relies heavily on the work of its volunteers to carry out its mission From the front lines caring for our animals to those who support us financially to our Board of Directors we would not be where we are today without them We are forever grateful and continue to be in their debt

Volunteers are a rare breed They show up not for money or fame or even glory but for a purpose something deep inside of them that has to make a difference They are committed loyal and ever giving of themselves and their time As the American Military General and Aviation pioneer James Doolittle once said ldquoTherersquos nothing stronger than the heart of a volunteerrdquo

The Medina County SPCA would like to honor one such volunteer as our Volunteer of the Year This volunteer ex-

the purchase of a new transport vehicle for our Humane Officer to help rescue and save animals and pets in at-risk situations in our own community Our current transport vehicle has high mileage and often requires expensive repairs so this gift could not have come at a better timerdquo

Newly Named Petco Love Invests in Lifesaving Work of Medina County SPCA

Grant of $14k will help save more pet lives in Medina CountyIn April the newly named Petco Love announced a $14000 grant investment to the Medina County SPCA to support our lifesaving work for animals in the county

Petco Love is a nonprofit leading change for pets nationally by harnessing the power of love to make communities and pet families closer stronger and healthier Since their founding in 1999 as the Petco Foundation they have empowered organizations with nearly $300 million invested to date in adoption and other lifesaving efforts And they have helped find loving homes for more than 65 million pets in partnership with Petco and more than 4000 organizations like ours nationwide

ldquoPetco Love announced an investment in the Medina County SPCA and hundreds of other organizations as part of our commitment to create a future in which no pet is unneces-sarily euthanizedrdquo said Susanne Kogut President of Petco Love ldquoOur local investments are only one component We also launched the first of our national tools to empower all animal lovers to drive lifesaving change right alongside usrdquo ldquoWe are so excited that Petco Love wanted to invest in our organization and partner with usrdquo stated Tracey Miller Director of Operations Medina County SPCA ldquoTheir support means the world to us This grant money will be used toward

The mission of the Medina County SPCA is to protect and care for animals in our community from abuse cruelty neglect injury and abandonment Founded in 1985 we are an independent non-profit local shelter with no ties to any national organization or rescues In 2020 alone 1225 animals were successfully adopted through the Medina SPCA Shelter
