This management tip was worth $25,000 to Charles Schwab, a steel entrepreneur.
He paid the fee to a consultant who simply handed him a blank sheet of paper and pencil with directions to keep a prioritised list. Schwab felt his money was very well spent.
Similar success can be yours, if….
How valuable is this management tip?
Develop a comprehensive list by compiling it at the same time each day and using your important documents
Choose a time that works for your personal style• After classes• Before bed• While eating breakfast• Soon after your Quiet Time• Etc. 3
Important Documents• Yesterday’s List• Did you have tasks
uncompleted?• Should they be carried over?
• Course Outlines• List any immediate assignments
and examinations• Note up-coming assignments,
tasks, etc.
• Calendar• Annual • Academic
4
4. Refer to your list throughout the day, adjusting your plans when necessary.
Check off objectives as you complete them so you can easily see the tasks that remain.
5
PERSONAL REWARDS OF DAILY SUCCESSES
• Reward yourself after a job well done before you begin your next list.
• Read a psalm• Read a novel• Pray and
worship God• Enjoy some
fruits, biscuits, nature, etc.

4. Use Your Resources on Campus
•The potential of one individual increases when combined with the potentials of others.
•By sharing resources, people maximise their productivity and creativity.
•The successful student most often has created a network of people and resources that make learning more interesting and problems easier to solve.
7
i. Peers • An upper-class advocate, ‘big-
sister’ or ‘big-brother’ can:• Provide you with information and
tips based on experience and offer a sympathetic ear.
• Show you the shortest routes to: - locating specific textbooks at the library,
• - accessing information from specific course related websites, and
• - obtaining valuable references for class assignments, etc.
8
9
ii. Classroom Support
Some of your most important resources are in your classes
Begin NOW to establish healthy
academic relationships with your classmates
and instructors; They can provide
tremendous support as you learn and as you cope with problems.
10
iii. Classmates
• Take advantage of natural contacts, conflicts, clashes to make study teams in your class.
• You can simply choose a classmate you already know and like.– Whoever you choose must build on your
strength and be mutually motivating.
• Observe your classmates for a few days– Chat with someone you think is conscientious
and friendly.– Build a ‘buddy system’.

Note-Taking
14
Note-Taking• Note-taking is the necessary
supplement to active listening.
• Active listening ensures that you understand what is being said, while it is being said.
• Note-taking ensures that you remember both what you heard and understood. 15
16
Note-Taking Systems
Note-taking systems vary, each with its merits and demerits. When you are deciding what to put in your notebook and how to put it there, three things should inform your decision.
1. Writing down only the things you know you need to remember.
2. Capturing the result of how the lecturer is presenting the material.
3. Ensuring the form your notes take makes it as easy as possible for you to review and study them.
