"And give my son Solomon thewholehearted devotion to keepyour commands, statutes anddecrees and to do everything tobuild the palatial structure forwhich I have provided." 1Chronicles 29:19 (NIV) Cheri handed my crying baby tome, his little eyes swollen, hissobs subsiding into gulping sighs.Within seconds, Robbie calmedas I nuzzled him and kissed hissweet face. I hugged my friend and thankedher for trying again to watchRobbie while I went back to workpart-time. Again, my son refuseda bottle and cried constantly. Weboth knew this wasn't going towork. Forcing a smile, I turnedquickly so she wouldn't see mytears. By the time I got to the car,I could hold them back no longer.Securing my son, I slipped in thedriver's seat, put my head on thesteering wheel and wept. He was my third child, so Ithought I had the mommy-thingfigured out. Only Robbie didn'thave the same personality orneeds of his older brothers. They'd taken bottles easily. But

Saying Goodbye To Something You Lovethis child had a unique bond withme. Not only that, but we couldn'tjust sit together; I had to bewalking and rocking him. If thatboy was awake, he needed totouch me and be moving, or thecrying began. My older sons, ages 2 and 4,weren't the quiet type either.Other children kept occupiedwith a bag of toys, crayons or pa-per. Not mine. My life changed dramaticallywith the birth of my third son. Asa result, I made the difficultdecision to quit many things Ienjoyed: my part-time job, leading children's ministry andteaching Bible study to name afew. Most days I just felt sad asthe world seemed to pass me by. A highlight was picking up adozen donuts and a Diet Coke andheading to Cheri's house. She wasthe only friend who couldtolerate my three rowdy children. And she also understood that DietCoke offsets the calories in thedonuts. The perfect friend! I loved those little boys im-mensely. And not a day passedthat I didn't thank God for them.

But I grieved what I'd left behind, and that grieving affected myenjoyment of the present. I missed having position andauthority at work. I longed for thesense of completion. Sadly, Ithought my "ministry" wasoutside my home, and wonderedwhen God would use me again. Thankfully God intervened in adramatic way, and I came tounderstand and appreciate thecalling and cost of motherhood.God changed my heart andpriorities, and the rewards havefar outweighed the sacrifices. Butit was still hard. Recently, God brought thosedifficult years to mind as I read 1Chronicles 28 and 29. These chapters record KingDavid passing his crown andassignment to build God's templeto his son, Solomon. In thisdecision, David gave up hisposition, authority, respect andpurpose. Did David mope and moan?Did he grab donuts and diet sodawith a friend? No, the Bible tellsus David "praised the Lord inthe presence of the whole as-sembly" (1 Chronicles 29:10). What follows is one of themost beautiful, humble prayers inthe Bible. David's graciousactions and adoration for Godinspired and moved hearts in theJewish people. After praying, Scripture tells usDavid invited the people to praiseGod: "So they all praised theLORD, the God of their fathers;they bowed down, prostrating

themselves before the LORDand the king" (1 Chronicles29:20). What a vivid contrast betweenmy response and King David'swhen each of us gave upsomething we loved. David didn'tgrip the past tightly; he openedhis hands and heart to embracewhat God was doing in thepresent. I can't go back to those earlyyears, but with God's help andDavid's example, I can changehow I respond in the future. David had cultivated a life ofpraise, so when faced with loss, that habit elevated his response.David's trust in God was so greatthat he joyfully supported otherswho would build the temple helonged to build. As I've addressed thispersonally, I've discoveredpraising God is at the center ofcontentment. As we praise Him,we find the assurance that He'sgot things covered ... even babieswho cry inconsolably and ourlonging for significance. It's there, in knowing God seesus and hasn't forgotten us, we findpeace. And it's there, in everywalking-rocking-sleepless night,we find purpose. My season of life is differentnow, but I'm still faced withsaying "goodbye" to things Ilove. That "little" boy movesaway to college next month, andI'm praying for an attitude likeKing David's — full of praise, grace and generosity of heart.

Continued From Front PageThe married couple lived I CorozalTown for 10 years giving birth to threeCorozalenos: Marlon I (diseased),Marlon Zenaido and MarkMarchan. They, subsequently, wentto live in the West, in Cayo, wherethe Mars multiplied the family evenmore, giving birth to MarvinVincent, Marcel and MarjelieCarmen, their only daughter. Theyalso raised Jose Luis Dominguez, their foster son. After high school, Agustina startedher teaching career, a career whichspanned 36 years, at RanchitoGovernment School in Corozal. She,subsequently, taught in other schoolsin Corozal, including her alma mater, before she obtained her Teacher’sDiploma from the Belize TeachersCollege in 1986. After TeachersCollege, she bade goodbye to theschool children of Corozal resumingher teaching at the schools in the CayoDistrict: Sacred Heart, Santa Elena,Faith Nazarene and Howard SmithNazarene. She mostly taught infantsin the lower division, and besidesbeing a teacher she was also at timesVice Principal and even Principal.Miss Mar, the teacher, never forgot

her pupils and she could always beheard saying: “Oh, yes, I taughthim/her. He/she was a fine youngman/woman!” The beloved and loving Agustinawas a dedicated teacher and an evenmore dedicated wife, mother andgrandmother. Her family was mostimportant to her and she made sureGod knew that, pouring out her heartdaily unto Him praying, petitioning, beseeching, pleading, asking andalways giving thanks. “Hear myvoice when I cry, Oh Lord; andhave mercy also upon me andanswer me”. She felt that every dayher family needed the protection ofGod so every day she cried out toGod covering her family in prayers. As a teacher Agustina wouldregularly attend the church for theschool where she taught. However,it was after retirement, andenlargement of the family to includein-laws and grandchildren, that shesensed she really needed God in herlife. The start of the year 2014 saw atransformational change in her life aswell as in the life of her husband,Zenaido, when both, independently, sought the God of creation and founda merciful, heavenly Father. Jesus

became her all: Savior, Lord,Confidante, Healer and her hope.Being a woman to whom family isimportant, she quickly embraced theSanta Elena Lighthouse FoursquareChurch family as her own andincluded both families in thecelebration of life, whether it was abirthday celebration or, as evidencedtoday, her joyous reunion with herBeloved Jesus Christ, Son of God. One of my most memorableexpressions of love is framed byAgustina and Zenaido attendingchurch together, submitting one to theother. Recently, Zenaido, her belovedhusband of almost 39 years, honoredher at church, publicly thanking Godfor her and telling her from the altarthat he loved her, that she was aprecious wife to him and humblyasked her to forgive him. Agustinaresponded to his love, glowing withthe same radiance as on the day theygot married, and, humbly, askedZenaido to also forgive her. What ajoyous time that was for Agustina, thehealing power of God throughforgiveness where love is restoredand the heart strengthened to facetomorrow and to keep on hoping forthe health and wellbeing of her

beloved family. She blossomed inthe peace of God, and if our Lord hadallowed, she would have kept onglorifying God, working as thefaithful servant that she is for thecontinued expansion of His kingdom. At church she once asked in fullhumility if she would be allowed totake up the offering. In fact, her lifeitself is a pleasing offering to God.Today, we have the assurance that sheis before her Lord who lovinglyaccepts her offering as a fragrantaroma before Him and personallywelcomes her home. We also havethe knowledge that in heaven theprayers of the saints that burn asincense before the enthroned King ofKings carries Agustina’s prayers:“Lord, save my family!” Losing her is painful and fills us withunbearable sorrow but knowing thather passion and love for Jesus madeher an over-comer, worthy to sit atthe throne of Jesus who alsoovercame and now sits at the throneof God, we have the strength torejoice and to whisper a prayertoday saying: “Thank you Jesus!” May the Lord of comfort be withus in this time of mourning.

Amen
