The lands around Stara Zagora have been inhabited for 8000 years. Since its establishing in

106 AD, the town has had 8 names (Augusta Traiana, Beroe, Irinopolis, Vereya,

Borui, Eski Zagra, Zheleznik and Stara Zagora).

Stara Zagora is known as one of the few towns in the world with straight streets. It is also famous for its linden trees and

poets.
