THE WEEK AHEAD
In Our Parish
June 23, 2019– Corpus Christi
On this Solemnity of Corpus Christi, we are reminded about Christ’s giving his very own Body and Blood so that we may live, and live fully. The Gospel highlights the loving disposition of Jesus not only to feel for the needs of other people but to accompany this feeling with the corresponding action by feeding the hungry multitude instead of sending them away. In this life, there are givers and there are takers. Givers are you, our dear parishioners, as you continue to share your time, talent and treasure so that Star of the Sea parish can continue its mission in this part of the world. Thank you for being cheerful givers. And to all of you givers out there, keep on giving. May the Body and Blood of Christ which we
receive every time we celebrate the Holy Eucharist give us the courage and humility to follow His example of loving, giving, and forgiving. Amen.

ADORATION AT STAR OF THE SEA ON AUGUST 1st
FROM 8:30AM UNTIL 3:00PM A Few Benefits of Holy Hour of Eucharistic Adoration #1 – Every Holy Hour we make so pleases the Heart of Jesus that it is recorded in Heaven and retold for all eternity! (Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta) #2 – The spiritual lives of our families are strengthened through our Holy Hour. (Blessed John Paul II) #3 – All the angels of heaven gaze in ecstasy at the image left on your soul after each holy hour you make in the presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. (Excerpt from ‘Letters To A Brother Priest’) #4 – The only time our Lord asked the Apostles for anything was the night He went into agony. Not for activity did He plead but for an Hour of companionship. (Archbishop Fulton Sheen) #5 – A Holy Hour in front of the Blessed Sacrament is worth more than a thousand years of human glory. (St. Padre Pio) #6– There is no doubt that a flood of graces will descend upon your family and the world if more souls would become docile pupils of adoration. (Blessed Pope John XXIII) #7 – Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament consoles a soul far beyond what the world can offer. (St. Alphonsus Ligouri)
Although the door is open to all, we do need people to commit to being an honor guard for just one hour to ensure Our Lord is never left alone. Please prayerfully consider participating in this beautiful devotion to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament of the Eucharist. POC: Dick and Sue Meeker, [email protected], 757-228-7775. Corpus Christi—the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ: Today’s feast day celebrates the greatest treasure of the Church---the Body and Blood of Christ which are truly present in the Eucharist! The Eucharist is “the source and summit of the
Christian life. For the most holy Eucharist contains the Church’s entire spiritual wealth: Christ Himself, our Passover and living bread.”
“I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE…”
S.O.S. Social Ministry’s activities & ministries include: Peace & Justice, Social Outreach, Soup Kitchen, Migrant Ministry, Food Donation Drivers, Respect Life, Thanksgiving Baskets, Christmas Giving Tree, Sowers of Justice, Sweet Blessings, and Virginia Catholic Conference
Social Outreach: We serve our Virginia Beach par ish neighbors, needy, and homeless. The following items are always greatly appreciated as they are very helpful to the individuals and families that come to Social
Outreach:
Toilet Paper
Bottled Water
Family snacks and crackers
Jelly/Jams
Any Shampoo or Conditioner samples (that you may come across while vacationing)
Peace & Justice: Continue to pray the Rosary and always hope for peace in our world! May we always be grateful for all the blessings we have in our lives as God loves all of us!
A Thanksgiving Prayer by Samuel F. Pugh O God, when I have food, help me to remember the hungry; When I have work, help me to remember the jobless; When I have a warm home, help me to remember the homeless; When I am without pain, help me to remember those who suffer, And remembering, help me to destroy my complacency and bestir my compassion. Make me concerned enough to help, by word and deed, those who cry out for what we take for granted. Amen.
Soup Kitchen: Our Soup Kitchen Ministry volunteers recently served dinner on June 19th at Judeo Christian Outreach Center (JCOC)! It was a wonderful opportunity for us to share our SOS hospitality with others! We made a delicious meal for our community’s needy and homeless at JCOC, and enjoyed an evening of service and fellowship! Our remaining dates for serving dinners at JCOC for the rest of this year are: July 31, August 21, October 9, and December 18, 2019.

Migrant Ministry: Greetings everyone, it is Migrant Ministry time again. We had a very short season last year due to weather, so we are off to a good start with supplies from last year. Due to space issues, we do not currently need clothes. I would ask for donations of toilet paper, sheets, towels, toiletries, white socks and t-shirts. Powdered laundry soap and bug spray are always in high demand as well. If you would be interested in volunteering to drive please let me know. As always please keep the workers in your prayers during these hot summer days. Thank you!
