Organize the next International Busines Study
STAR BOARD LEARN. GROW. EXCEL.
Are you ready to get the most out of the upcoming year? Becoming the next STAR Board offers a unique opportunity where you will gain extensive knowledge on the real business world, develop your skills at an exponential rate and be surrounded by amazing people at university!
The STAR Board is collectively responsible for the entire study association of the Rotterdam School of Management. It is the all-round experience in which you will be tested on all fields of business. Supervise and manage projects and people, display leadership, develop policy and strategy for a large organization, and execute this strategy. During this intense team experience, you will learn what your qualities are and how to exploit these within the team.
A board year is unique in the experiences it offers. You will expand your network by working together with the university, hundreds of companies, captains of industry, politicians, and other student organizations. The high workflow is one of the biggest challenges. Apply your knowledge and skills gained during your studies to manage this workflow.
Besides a learning experience, a board year is incredibly fun to do. You will meet many new people, attend drinks and dinners, participate in exclusive events and make friends for life.
STAR is the Study Association of the Rotterdam School of Management. In 1977 the association was founded as Sviib. Throughout the years STAR has come a long way, from a small group of students organizing social activities for Business Administration students, to the largest, most professional study association in the Netherlands.
We currently have more than 6.500 members, of which 240 are active in parttime positions and 30 in fulltime positions, spread over 53 different projects. These projects can be placed in a wide variety of categories. STAR is a very flat organization, in which we foster ambition and personal growth. “Your growth is our strategy” is the mission we carry out.
The above may indicate that STAR is a traditional and formal organization. This however, is one of the biggest misconceptions about STAR. We aim to be open, not only to our members, but also to new ideas and suggestions. We find innovative and creative solutions to problems, which is reflected in the advanced back-end IT-systems we use to support the STAR booksale, amongst others. Furthermore we highly value the social aspect of our association. Wednesday night drinks at the Villa Kakelbont, STAR Christmas Dinner, Active Members Weekend and a Sport Tournament are among the activities we organize with our active members. No prior experience at STAR is needed for any function!
Running an organization like STAR is a unique opportunity, which puts you in a position of leadership with responsibilities you will not encounter until obtaining senior management functions.
