Snapshots of STAI Seminars in the Year 2017
Dear Member,
It‟s my pleasure to share with
you the activities of the Asso-
ciation and other happenings
in the national and interna-
tional sugar industry through
this edition of the STAI e-
Newsletter.
The crushing for the sugar
season 2017-18 is in full
swing and we are anticipating
sugar production of around
25 MT against the 20.1 MT in
sugar season 2016-17. For
the second year, Uttar Pra-
desh is set to repeat its feat of
being the largest sugar pro-
ducing state in the country.
According to advance esti-
mates the state is likely to
produce over 10 MT of sugar.
This season the UP sugarcane
acerage is estimated at 22.99
lakh hectares, up 11.20%
compared to 20.54 lakh hec-
tares in 2016-17. Good mon-
soon rains may also push
sugar production in Maharashtra &
Karnataka year-on-year to 7.2 MT
and 2.6 MT this sugar season.
The sugar prices in the country are
going to be stable despite an antici-
pated production glut and the steep
decline in global prices may also
not have an impact on domestic
sugar prices in the near term due
to balanced demand and supply in
the country.
STAI successfully organized All In-
dia one day seminar on “Energy
Efficient Technologies – Decanters
in Sugar Mills, Refineries and Dis-
tilleries” in association with Alfa
Laval India Ltd at Hotel Sayaji, Kol-
hapur on 6th Oct. 2017. About
150 delegates participated in the
daylong seminar and actively par-
ticipated in the technical delibera-
tions throughout the programme.
As a new initiative STAI has been
holding seminars at new locations
for the benefit and larger participa-
tion of the delegates. Seminar at
Kolhapur was also organized in this
series for the first time.
Apart from the above STAI also
promoted CIIs 4th edition of
„Green Sugar Summit 2017‟ held
from 30-31 August 2017 at HICC,
Hyderabad and their 5th Edition
of Sugar Tech 2017 held on 16th
of Sept. 2017 at Lucknow.
For the year 2018, your Council
has drawn up an exciting activity
plan for the advantage of all the
stakeholders. We look forward to
your active participation and sup-
port as ever.
