Inspired by Gospel values, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, a Catholic lay organization, leads women and men to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to those who are needy and suffering, in the tradition of its founder, Blessed Frederic , and patron, St. Vincent de Paul. As a reflection of the whole family of God, members, who are known as Vincentians, are drawn from every ethnic and cultural background, age group, and economic level. Vincentians are united in an international society of charity by their spirit of poverty, humility, and sharing, which is nourished by prayer and reflection, mutually supportive gatherings, and adherence to a basic Rule. Organized locally, Vincentians witness God’s love by embracing all works of charity and justice. The Society collaborates with other people of good will in relieving need and addressing its causes, making no distinction in those served, because in them Vincentians see the face of Christ..

BEGGARS FOR THE POOR
Hand out food and clothing to the homeless downtown on Saturday mornings
PERSPECTIVE
St. Vincent de Paul is a company that unites men and women to serve those who are suffering through hardships. They provide services through two main locations: the food pantry and the distribution center. Also, SVDP provides other services like Beggars for the Poor, who meet every Saturday morning to feed and clothe those who are homeless. This company takes pride in all they have accomplished and hopes to keep striving to help those who are poor financially and in spirit. There are many methods and approaches this company uses, but the most consistent and beneficial is collaboration. They have teamed up with other non-profits, such as Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Holy Family Shelter, Cathedral Soup Kitchen, etc. SVDP finds that collaboration is more effective and efficient than competition. Although this company has the greatest of intentions, they do realize that not everybody else sees and/or understands that way of life. They need more volunteers to help show the beauty in that outcome.
View of Self
The organizational audit functions as a collection of all the research committed to St. Vincent de Paul. It contains everything about the company, research on methods of communication they currently use, cognitive thinking maps, and branding analysis, derived thought from all research placed on SVDP. Upon textual research, maps were developed to visualize problem solving to help resolve some major miscommunications and road blocks for St. Vincent de Paul. These maps have assisted in defining a new path of success for the company.

Circle MapThis map serves as a means of laying out five major problems SVDP is facing in it’s current state. The red are the problems, yellow are the causes, and blue are the solutions.
Bubble MapThe bubble map shows all of the connecting factors that compose the company’s structure.
Brace MapThis map displays the means in which the volunteers that currently work at St. Vincent de Paul break out.

PERSPECTIVE
View from othersSt. Vincent de Paul appears to most college students as a Catholic based organization, which is ran by older folks. However, the company was only founded and supported by the Catholic Church, but it is very excepting of anyone who wishes to volunteer, regardless of race, age, religion, ethnicity, etc. Also, there are a lot of students who have volunteered and have complained about the staff being and seemingly ungrateful. While this is not targeted at everyone who runs the company, it can make the company seem unfriendly and uninviting. This image should, and can be, easily cleaned up and redefined. SVDP needs to let the beauty they hold be seen and invite new volunteers to help them reach out.
This tool is perfect for setting up a new approach in helping SVDP reach out to its new audience and help them communicate in the most affective means possible. The idea behind the mood board displayed focuses on completing a chain, which is displayed in the circle composed of type. It states, “old affects young affects svdp affects poor, etc.” Also, there is an image of a young women, who is college-aged, “stepping-out” on to a path that is blooming upwards. The book bag vector illustrates the knowledge and wisdom the youth hold and can use to help the company reach out.

Building a new audience takes some work. When starting out, it is imperative to think about who to really look for in the overall perspective. St. Vincent de Paul is predominantly staffed with people who have retired or a little extra time in their hands. While this is a great thing, there is not enough people to run the whole company, and some cannot fulfill the tasks that are required, such as lifting heavy boxes or equipment. Taking a look at college students it is clear to see that they hold many benefits for our company. Whether it is aiding in lifting material, filling in for others positions, or directing the company’s approach, these new volunteers can help the company flourish to help a significant amount of people in despair.
DESCRIPTIONAUDIENCE
Taking a closer look at how students live can help define trends and choices that they make on a day-to-day basis. This process can help SVDP set up a structure to attract more volunteers and make the company more comfortable and enjoyable.

“Keep me away from the wisdom which does not cry, the philosophy which does not laugh and the greatness which does not bow before children”
-Kahlil Gibran
“You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.”
-Kahlil Gibran
PERSPECTIVE
New viewSt. Vincent de Paul has been a stable company for hundreds of years. Its assistance has served many who have been suppressed by despair and poverty and enabled them to sustain their lives. However, it ’s time to reach out and expand our horizon to help as many people possible. The only way to gain more muscle is to add weight and repeat the action. With the way the economy is, it is up to us to help all of those caught in despair and homelessness. By reviewing all that the company has, it is extremely clear that there are communication flaws that need to be address in a new light. There are so many opportunities that are present. It’s time to redirect the old ways into something that everyone will benefit from. It’s time to reach out.
approach
In the act of reaching out, SVDP will gain a stronger team to assist those who are poverty stricken. The first step is shown within the means of communication of the company. By divulging, students will see the benefits of the company and help build support.
The next step is to take action. The best way for others to learn is through setting an example. SVDP’s services set a perfect example of how Christ wants people to live their life.
approach
There are benefits to both accounts involved in the process. First, students will gain insight on how to live selflessly, build new friendships, and attain service hours that will aid in scholarships, resumes, and other various academic activities. The benefits SVDP will achieve are having a fresh pair of hands, minds, and hearts to help. Also, having opportunities to have younger individuals to fill in staff positions, whether they are currently open or for those who can no longer work. There are many other benefits, but these cannot be seen without taking action.

When planting a seed to grow in a new direction, one has to think about the placement in the soil. In the same sense, St. Vincent de Paul needs to consider where and how they approach their new direction. In order to achieve this path, it will take methods of understanding divergent communication. Being able to truly understand the audience will aid in relating with the way in which they spend their time and talents. In return, this will allow students to see the gifts SVDP provides and help them to reach out.
direction
“To understand the heart and mind of a person, look not at what he has already achieved, but at what he aspires to.”
-Kahlil Gibran
