Dear families of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, In today’s readings, we find ourselves being drawn more deeply into relationship with Jesus. We are getting to know more about him as we see how he struggles with the news of his cousin John’s arrest. His first response is to withdraw, to leave Nazareth and go to Capernaum. There he is perhaps both consoled and challenged by the words of Isaiah that Matthew quotes: “the people who sit in darkness have seen a great light, / on those dwelling in a land overshadowed by death / light has arisen” (Matthew 4:16). Jesus contemplates his cousin’s death, perhaps his own death, and he seeks the light. Maybe it is these words of Isaiah that move Jesus out of his withdrawal and into action. He begins to preach, teach, cure disease and illness, and proclaim the gospel of the kingdom. In just two weeks we will host the “10th“ Pan de Vida retreat for teens. This is an experience the youth of our parish and other parishes never forget and it leads them closer to Christ. If your child is a student of the IHM Confirmation program they are required to attend a retreat and this one is very worthwhile. Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us Fr. Quang

Queridas familias del Inmaculado Corazón de María, En las lecturas de hoy nos encontramos inmersos más profundamente en una relación con Jesús. Estamos llegando a saber más sobre él a medida que vemos cómo lucha con la noticia del arresto de su primo Juan. Su primera respuesta es retirarse, dejar Nazaret e ir a Capernaum. Allí, tal vez es consolado y desafiado por las palabras de Isaías que Mateo cita: "las personas que se sientan en la oscuridad han visto una gran luz, / en aquellos que habitan en una tierra ensombrecida y la muerte / la luz ha surgido" (Mateo 4:16). SERVING ONLY THE CONSECRATED HOST AT HOLY COMMUNION

During this time of the year when there is a growing number of people with cold or flu, we at Immaculate Heart of Mary are taking necessary measures to avert the spread of these infectious diseases. Effective immediately, and temporarily, only the consecrated hosts (Body of Christ) will be served at communion. Likewise, we are encouraging people who are at risk to get sick or who are sick, to stay home and rest, rather than attend large church gatherings until it is safe to do so; and instead of offering handshake to greet people at church – including the Sign of Peace – a simple verbal greeting, smile or bow of the head will suffice. The same is recommended for the recitation of the “Our Father” – to refrain from touching/holding hands. As for our Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, they are being required to take extra sanitary measure in fulfilment of their liturgical role, including but not limited to sanitizing their hands before Mass and distribution of Communion. These safety protocols are issued in our collective desire to keep our Church, our worship space, to truly be a sanctuary promoting holistic health of every parishioner—in body, mind and spirit.

COMULGAR SOLAMENTE LA HOSTIA CONSAGRADA DURANTE LAS SANTA COMUNIÓN

Durante esta época del año en la que hay un número creciente de personas con infecciones respiratorias, resfriado o gripe, aquí la parroquia del Inmaculado Corazón de María estamos tomando las medidas necesarias para evitar la propagación de estas enfermedades infecciosas. Efectivo desde ahora, y temporalmente, solo hostias consagradas (Cuerpo de Cristo) serán distribuidas durante la comunión. En cuanto a nuestros Ministros Extraordinarios de la Santa Comunión, se les está exigiendo que tomen medidas sanitarias adicionales en el cumplimiento de su función litúrgica, incluyendo pero no limitado a desinfectar sus manos antes de la Misa y la distribución de la Comunión. Estos protocolos de seguridad se emiten en nuestro deseo colectivo de mantener saludable nuestra Iglesia, nuestro espacio de culto, para ser verdaderamente un santuario que promueva la salud de cada feligrés, en cuerpo, mente y espíritu.

IHM Children’s & Teen’s Choir Calendar

IHM Children’s Choir and IHM Teen’s Choir season ends in May. During the off-season over the Summer, a cantor sings at the 5pm Mass. Season resumes in August.

We are updating our church library and need to clear out the VHS and cassette tapes. Some of these tapes include movies and music as well as instruction on the Catholic faith from well-known speakers such as Ray Guarendi’s series on, “You are a Better Parent Than You Though.” Our fiction videos include popular movies on the Bible. If you are interested in giving these tapes a good home, come by the Library on Wednesdays from 3:30 to 5:00pm or call Mickey DeFalco at 925-634-3492. ++++ En la Biblioteca en nuestra Iglesia necesitamos limpiar los VHS y las Cintas cassette.
