Do Small Things Well Term 3 Week 2 : Thursday 27th July
I don’t know whether you’ve noticed but there is an air of excitement and some extra singing and dancing starting to
happen in all the classrooms. It feels a bit like BROADWAY! Everyone is very excited about our school concert coming up on Wednesday 30th August starting at 7pm at Caroline Chisholm College in Braybrook. So put the date in your diaries and remember to bring along all your friends and family to watch our very talented children perform on the stage. (Watch
the newsletters for more concert details)
As the Grade 3 children prepare to make their First Holy Communion on 13th August, we ask that you
keep them in your prayers : Alyssa, Maia, Joseph, Celeste, Rhian, Stephanie, Jade, Lily, Leeam,
Finnley, Megan, Ethan, Aleksandra, Ivana, Suzanna, Achol
and Cooper
Loving Father, we pray that
the children preparing for their First Holy Communion, be
guided by their families and teachers as they come to know the special importance of this
most blessed sacrament. May they learn of your great love for us by connecting with the parish community in the
celebration of the Holy Mass. Guide them in their faith
journey as they come to know you more fully through the
Sacrament of Communion.
Attention PREP PARENTS...we would love to hear from you!
Now that the 2017 prep year is half over (where did those first 2 terms
go?) it is time to check in with our parents to see how this experience
has been for you. So we are inviting you to a
COMMUNITY CONVERSATION on FRIDAY 11th August at 9AM
Please join us as we talk about your child’s learning. We will be asking
for feedback on a number of topics including the transition program,
learning at home, reporting to parents and anything else that might be
useful for us in setting future directions for the school. Your opinions
are important to us so please come along.

LEARNING & TEACHING @ ST. THERESA’S
LINA & JOHNNY CHAN & OUR MUSIC STUDENTS Last week our piano and singing students presented a short musical concert to the Prep-Yr 4 students. Lina and Johnny Chan, ex students of St Theresa’s, are their music teachers.
Before each student performed Lina interviewed them, gaining an insight into how they were feeling before and after the
performance, how much they had practiced for the performance and the challenges that they felt when
performing, eg being nervous, worried that they might forget what notes to play etc.
All the students performed admirably and were very pleased with their efforts and the recognition they received from the
audience. Once again the information that was shared will assist with preparing all the children for our school
production. Congratulations to Emily and Natalia, Sunny, Shion, Maia, Kyle, Sophia, Ruby, Prioshka and Parihan, Mia
and Reece
This Term all classes will be focusing on our school production as part of their Inquiry. All grades will focus on -What is a production and different types of productions. Classes will also look at a production as a way of telling a story. All grades will be involved in a range of incursions (Piano concert, Cal Wilson- Comedian and The Magic Flute-Opera) that will allow children to understand the preparation and challenges associated
with a performance. The individual grades will then focus on their Broadway production songs and look at the themes that arise from them and complete an in-depth study on these. We will conclude the Inquiry with
a focus on indigenous people and the various ways they pass on beliefs, traditions and culture.
CAL WILSON As a school, we are always very fortunate to have so many parents willing to share their talents with our school community. This week we saw another example where we asked Cal Wilson to share with the children her experiences of being a comedian on stage, radio and TV. Cal spoke to the children
and gave them all great insights into the amount of preparation required for a show, what to do when
things go wrong and how to have a positive attitude whilst performing. The children were able to have all of their questions answered. Some of the questions included.. ‘What was your most embarrassing
moment on stage?’, ‘What famous people have you met?’ and ‘What country do you like to perform in the best?’ Thanks to Cal for providing rich insights into her work and for her generosity of time. The
information she shared will assist the children in preparation for our school production.
Term Overviews- Term 3 Early next week Term Overviews will be on your child’s classroom Blog page. Please take the
time to see what learning experiences the children will be involved this Term. Blog link: http://www.stalbion.catholic.edu.au/page/90

This month’s SEL Skill : TALKING
Important Information
.
FOOTY COLOURS DAY…a message from our SRC
Fight Cancer for Kids/Footy Colours Day is going to be held on
Friday11th August.
Dress up in the colours of your favourite footy team or just wear something pink if you don’t follow
a team and bring along some gold coin donations. Coins = points, the grade with the most points
wins a FANTASTIC MYSTERIOUS PRIZE! That way we raise lots of money for ‘Fight Cancer’ and
the students might win a prize as well.
Year 3/4 Camp Meeting for Parents and Students
When : Next Tuesday 1st August at 9am
Where : Multi Purpose Room
Our Year 3 and Year 4 students will be going on their 3-day camp to Doxa in early September (Monday 4th – Wednesday 6th). The purpose of this meeting will be to explain the organisational details of the camp as well as present a summary of the camp activities. This is a great opportunity for parents (and students) to hear about the camp and ask any questions that you might have about Camp Doxa.
‘Talking is important because it helps you stay healthy. Talking to someone you trust about
things that are worrying you can help you solve problems and reduce stress.’
The students have participated in class discussions about how important talking is. It
would be very helpful if parents could reinforce this skill at home.
BOOK CLUB orders are due back at
school this Monday 31st July. Place the
order form and payment in an
envelope clearly marked with your child’s name and
grade.
Attention Parents of Year 5 Students
A reminder to all Yr. 5 students that enrollments
for 2019 to Catholic Secondary Schools close on
August 25th, 2017. Most secondary colleges are
currently offering school tours to help you make an informed decision. Check
the relevant school website for details of
tours and how to submit an application.
Yr 5TM Assembly tomorrow at 2.30 in MPR
A few students saw the uplifting story of 10-year-old Luca on the Footy Show recently. Luca had lost his leg to cancer but was still determined to continue playing footy. Our students were so impressed with Luca that they want to raise money for his cause. Everyone is encouraged to wear their team colours with pride and raise money to help kids with cancer to continue with their education during treatment and recovery

The 3/4s Investigate STEM .. Makey Makey @ St. Theresa’s
In connection with a teacher from Scienceworks the Grade 3/4 children interacted with circuit boards and
alligator clips to learn about circuits and currents. They then used a Makey Makey kit to trial their own experiments with currents. Makey Makey is an invention kit for the 21st century. Turn everyday objects
into touchpads and combine them with the Internet. It's a simple Invention Kit for Beginners and Experts doing art, engineering, and everything in between!
How Does it Work? Place alligator clips to two objects and then attach to the Makey Makey board. For example, you and a banana. When you touch the banana, you make a connection and Makey Makey sends the computer a
keyboard message. The computer thinks Makey Makey is a regular keyboard (or mouse). Therefore it works with all programs and webpages, because all programs and webpages take keyboard and mouse input.

With your help we can do it again this year.
FUNDRAISING NEWS Our two main events for Term 3 are both later in the term. One is our Father’s Day
stall on Friday 1st September and the other is the Father’s Night the following Friday
8th September….so put those dates in your diaries. The group is also organizing a Tony’s Pie Drive for earlier in the term.
More information about this will be available next week. Tony’s pies are
delicious and there’s nothing like a hot meat pie on these cold days, so we look
forward to lots of orders being placed.
The more pies we sell, the more money for our
school.
CASEA PROGRAM : STUDENT WELLBEING Next week sees the return of the CASEA Program : an 8 week program devised by the RCH that develops the child’s social and emotional learning skills. WE cover topics like Feelings, Getting To Know Others, Stop Think, Do, Sharing, Turn Taking and Friendly Behaviours. Along with the children directly participating in CASEA, all students from Prep to Gr 6 will be exploring these themes as well.
