RADICAL TRANSFORMATION On this Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, the readings describe anything but an ordinary time. They are disturbing and they leave us disturbed. The Old Testament reading recounts a young man’s radical break with the past to follow a new path. The Gospel describes how life as we know it is abruptly changed if we follow the call of Christ. The psalm and Paul assure us that such life-altering change is possible only because of the power of God’s love. We are presented with a stark choice. To love as God loves, we must leave our old lives behind. We must leave behind not just the bad, the selfish, and the evil but the ordinary, our daily work, and the important, our families, our lives. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Processions are life’s journey distilled. We move with companions, aware that Christ accompanies us, as we move to the altar for Communion or to the font for baptism, or carry a loved one to a place of rest. In Europe, the season of pilgrimage is beginning now, and tens of thousands of people are moving by foot on well-worn paths. Some take as long as six weeks to walk the last few hundred miles of the medieval pilgrimage route to the Shrine of St. James the Apostle in Compostella, in northern Spain. Those who make the journey by foot, hiking, or by bicycle, have a kind of passport stamped at villages and monasteries on the road. When they present this document at the cathedral, they are given the emblem of a pilgrim, the scallop shell of St. James. High over their heads at Mass, a huge botafumero twirls clouds of sweet incense through the cathedral. Cynics say it is to mask the odor of smelly feet. The pilgrims know better. Seeing through the clouds the happy faces of those they met along the road, they recognize a foretaste of the welcome into heaven, and the joy of meeting loved ones in the Kingdom of God. 13 NIEDZIELA OKRESU ZWYKŁEGO

Błogosławię Pana, który dał mi rozsądek, bo serce napomina mnie nawet nocą.

Zawsze stawiam sobie Pana przed oczy, On jest po mojej prawicy, nic mną nie zachwieje.

Psalm 16

Gdy dopełnił się czas Jego wzięcia [z tego świata], postanowił udać się do Jerozolimy i wysłał przed sobą posłańców. Ci wybrali się w drogę i przyszli do pewnego miasteczka samarytańskiego, by Mu przygotować pobyt. Nie przyjęto Go jednak, ponieważ zmierzał do Jerozolimy. Widząc to, uczniowie Jakub i Jan rzekli: Panie, czy chcesz, a powiemy, żeby ogień spadł z nieba i zniszczył ich? Lecz On odwróciwszy się zabronił im. I udali się do innego miasteczka. A gdy szli drogą, ktoś powiedział do Niego: Pójdę za Tobą, dokądkolwiek się udasz! Jezus mu odpowiedział: Lisy mają nory i ptaki powietrzne - gniazda, lecz Syn Człowieczy nie ma miejsca, gdzie by głowę mógł oprzeć. Do innego rzekł: Pójdź za Mną! Ten zaś odpowiedział: Panie, pozwól mi najpierw pójść i pogrzebać mojego ojca! Odparł mu: Zostaw umarłym grzebanie ich umarłych, a ty idź i głoś królestwo Boże! Jeszcze inny rzekł: Panie, chcę pójść za Tobą, ale pozwól mi najpierw pożegnać się z moimi w domu! Jezus mu odpowiedział: Ktokolwiek przykłada rękę do pługa, a wstecz się ogląda, nie nadaje się do królestwa Bożego.

REFLEKSJA NAD CZYTANIAMI NIEDZIELNYMI... Królestwo Boże należy do ludzi wolnych – tych, których nie zwiedzie z wybranej drogi ani chęć zysku, ani presja otoczenia, ani własne wygodnictwo. Tych, którzy czynią to, czego naprawdę chcą, a nie to, na co chwilowo mają ochotę. Taką właśnie wolność proponuje nam Chrystus – jedyny, który ma moc wyprowadzić nas z każdej niewoli, jaką w sobie odkrywamy. Warto więc już od początku Eucharystii otworzyć się na Jego działanie; warto szczerze poprosić Go w swoim sercu: “Mów, Panie, bo sługa Twój słucha”. Mira Majdan, “Oremus”

TRANSFORMACIÓN RADICAL En este Trigésimo Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario, las lecturas describen todo menos un tiempo ordinario. Son inquietantes y nos dejan preocupados. La lectura del Antiguo Testamento cuenta acerca de un joven que rompió radicalmente con el pasado para seguir un nuevo camino. El Evangelio describe cómo repentinamente cambia la vida que conocemos si seguimos la llamada de Cristo. El Salmo y Pablo nos aseguran que ese cambio de vida es posible solo a causa del poder del amor de Dios. Se nos presenta una dura elección. Para amar como Dios ama, debemos dejar atrás a nuestras vidas antiguas. Debemos dejar atrás no solo lo malo, el egoísmo y el mal sino lo ordinario, nuestro trabajo diario y lo importante, nuestras familias, nuestras vidas. TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE El último sábado de junio o el primero de julio en un ayuntamiento de Valcidacos, España, se pone en escena el Miserere escrito por Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer (1836-1870). Esta obra relata como un músico llega de noche a la Abadía de Fetero pidiendo posada. Los hermanos del monasterio lo invitaron a pasar la noche. Allí él les contó su vida pecaminosa y su deseo de encontrar un Miserere (Salmo 51) digno de expiar sus pecados ante Dios. Le contaron del Miserere del Monte que cantaban durante la noche los monjes difuntos de un Monasterio que había sido destruido siglos atrás. El músico afanado por encontrar su Miserere, corrió a la montaña donde escuchó aquel lamentoso y bello canto. Al regresar a la Abadía intentó escribir la música de aquel Miserere, pero lo único que logro fue volverse loco. Aquel pobre hombre murió sin reconocer que cada quien debe entonar a su manera su propio y pobre Miserere mei (piedad de mi).
