MARIAN CONSECRATION

His Eminence, Cardinal Dolan is offering an opportunity to bring to our archdiocesan family something of a spiritual conversion, a light within the darkness of these troubled times. All are invited to consider joining in consecrating themselves to the Blessed Virgin Mary on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, December 8. Through the goodness of the office of young adult outreach we have received 160 copies of the consecration book, 33 Days to Morning Glory. They are at the church entrances and you may take one home. These consecration books map out everything you need to know. Please take one home and use it with your family.

In Loving Memory of her Husband

Thomas Patrick Browne

From the Pastor’s Desk:

Dear Parishioners,

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Msgr. George Thompson. He was a good man and a great priest who served the Lord and His Church so faithfully for over 50 years. Monsignor had several important assignments in the Archdiocese through the years. As Vocation Director he guided young men who were considering the priesthood as a vocation. Later as Personnel Director, he had the role of placing the priests in assignments to parishes and in new assignments.

I will always remember the day he called me to say I had to move from St. Anthony’s in Nanuet to St. Patrick’s Cathedral. He said I would only be there for two years and then I would get a parish of my own. The two years turned in to 9 and a half! I met him at the Seminary the month I was assigned here to St. Patrick’s in 2018, and we had a nice conversation as he wished me well. We had hoped to get together over the summer but it never came to be. His health began to decline and now we pray that he is with the Lord whom he served so well.

I think priests cherish each assignment they are given. I believe Msgr. Thompson cherished his 14 years here the most. It was here that he ministered in the ways for which we are ordained—to serve the people of God through the Eucharist and the Sacraments. He was deeply loved here. It was his home.

One of the prayers we say for the deceased tells us that “the sadness of death gives way to the bright promise of immortality.” Let us not be saddened but rather be happy that death no longer has power over him. We pray that he is now enjoying eternal life with the Saints on whose feast God called Monsignor to himself. May he rest now in peace.

Hear with favor our prayers, which we humbly offer O Lord,

for the salvation of the soul of Msgr. Thompson, your servant and Priest,

that he, who devoted a faithful ministry to you name,

may rejoice in the perpetual company of your Saints.

Through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

Msgr. John T. Ferry, Pastor
