27th Annual RED MASS

2019 Sponsored by the Diocese of Shreveport

And Red Mass Society

Friday, May 3, 2019 9:00 AM

Holy Trinity Catholic Church Shreveport, LA

The Red Mass is held annually for all members of the legal profession, a time when we gather to ask the Holy Spirit to influence the hearts and

minds of our law making body.

An Easter Treasure from Tradition

The opening words of the Eastertide anthem of the Blessed Virgin, to be recited from Holy Saturday until the afternoon

prayer of the Saturday after Pentecost are to be substituted for the Angelus and is better know as The Regina Coeli Prayer (Queen of Heaven in Latin). The origin of this prayer is un-certain and legend says that St. Gregory the Great heard the

first three lines changed by angels on a certain Easter morning while he walked barefoot in a great religious procession. A partial indulgence is granted to the faithful, who devoutly

recite this according to the formula indicated for the time of the year. It is a praiseworthy practice to recite

morning, noon, and evening. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

V. Queen of Heaven, rejoice, alleluia: R. The Son you merited to bear, alleluia,

V. Has risen as he said, alleluia, R. Pray for us to God, alleluia.

V. Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia.

R. Because the Lord is truly risen, alleluia.

Let us pray. O God of life, you have given joy to the word by the resurrection of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Through the prayers of his mother, the Virgin Mary, bring us to the

happiness of eternal life. We ask this through Christ our Lord. AMEN
