Parish Mission Statement
Our Parish Family, under the influence of the Gospel, strives to be bold and fearless disciples of Jesus Christ. We witness to our Catholic
faith by living the Eucharist. We are the hands and feet of Christ in our service and in our joyful proclamation of the goodness of God.

Joyful News Have you had enough
bumpy cake yet? It seems
like I’ve had it on my plate
most every day the past few
weeks. And the rocky road
ice cream has helped to keep
it cool during the hot weather
we’ve been having. Seriously, though, all in all I think
that the birth of our new parish has been going well. I
warned you all of the bumps that were coming. And we
certainly are not finished. As summer comes to an end, we
are now looking at the beginning of the new parish
organizations: women, men, and the over and under 50.
Heading into September the plan is to start gathering
together with the liturgical volunteers: lectors,
commentators, servers, sacristans, ushers, greeters and
Eucharistic ministers, to go over the ways each of these
ministries should be carried out. Volunteer sign-up cards
will be available in the pews soon. Faith formation and
youth ministry are starting up as well. These are exciting
times. Be aware for some more bumps.
There are still plenty of other building related issues that
haven’t been taken care of yet: Church speakers, votive
lights, the reconciliation room, stained glass windows, the
cry room, etc., as well as administrative items, such as the
conference room in the office building. Many files and
file cabinets still need to be brought here, reviewed and
properly stored.
In September we will begin working on the new parish
mission statement. I would like everyone to think
seriously about what it is that you would like to give to the
parish, and what you would like from the parish. More to
come on this subject in a couple of weeks. In the
meantime, enjoy the rest of summertime and God’s
beauty.
God Bless you.
Fr. Ken
Don’t’ forget! Our Parish Picnic Potluck
THIS Sunday, August 21 On the grounds of
St. Mary, Cause of Our Joy
At Noon *foods that need to be kept cold should be
dropped off at the social hall.
Bring a dish to share,
a comfortable chair and your own
Non-alcohol beverage.
It’s hard to believe a new school year is here. I hope all of you had
a fantastic summer! Gearing up to tackle a new year in high school
can be a real challenge. Maybe it’s your freshman year – you don’t
know anyone and making friends is all you can think about. You
have to learn a new floor plan, how to schedule your classes, and
there’s going to be all that freedom! Perhaps this is the year you’ll
muster the courage to try out for that team. Or maybe it will be
your year to try out for the lead in the school play or musical. It
might be the year for your first romance or maybe you end it. Or it
ends with your broken heart. What if that new teacher won’t get off
your back? How about that coach? How much more can he ask for?
It’s tough to juggle a parttime job – and keep your grades up!
Grades? College? Graduation? Friends who are into alcohol and
drugs, sex and trouble. Friends who let you down! Friends who
disappoint you. Where do you draw the line? The challenges are
endless!

Catechists meet tomorrow
evening. I am asking that
they each call a few
families to remind them to register
their kids by August 31. We still have
a ways to go to get the rooms ready for
our early September 12 start date. If
anyone can spare a few hours, your help
is welcome.
Kindergarten We are hoping to start
a group on Mondays if we can find
enough participants and space to gather
them. Please let me know of your
interest in religion readiness between
6pm and 7:15 pm.
Liturgy of the Word with Children
That’s the official name for what we do
at Sunday Mass when the children are
led to a space apart and celebrate the
Word on their level. Leaders are
needed if we are to do it at the 10:00
a.m. and Noon Masses. The children are
dismissed by the priest after the
Opening Prayer and led back during the
collection. Please let me know of your
interest in this for yourself and/or your
children. Also can you suggest a
shorter name for this ministry? LWC?
The Bottom Line Madison’s family
attends a Protestant church, so when
she went to Catholic Mass with the
family of her friend Maria, she poked
Maria in the ribs excitedly when the
priest came down the aisle wearing
robes and swinging a thurible of
incense. “That man’s wearing a dress!”
she exclaimed. “And his purse is on
fire!”

IN FORMATION
The Jubilee Year of Mercy
With Pope Francis
What Must I Do Now?
Prayer is so important. To pray with the prayers that
we all learned as children, but also to pray in our own
words. To ask the Lord: “Lord, help me, give me
counsel, what must I do now?” And through prayer we make space
so that the Spirit may come and help us in that moment, that he may
counsel us on what we all must do.
Prayer! Never forget prayer. Never! No one, no one realizes when
we pray on the bus, on the road: we pray in the silence of our heart.
Let us take advantage of these moments to pray, pray that the Spirit
gives us the gift of counsel.
- General Audience, May 7, 2014
Reflection: True mercy can only come through a deeply abiding
relationship with our Lord. Prayer helps us to continually see the
world through God’s eyes and to ask him how to conform our will
with his. Do you pray with your own words? The best way to learn
is to try. Take five minutes to speak with Jesus.
High School Youth Ministry (continued from pg. 1)
These are some of the topics that we talk about at our youth group
meetings. What crosses do you face in the beginning of a school year?
How can you deal with them? How can we live our faith to make the
kind of difference in our lives that makes these crosses bearable?
Jesus said that to follow him, we must pick up our crosses and go for
ward, even when we are afraid, even when we don’t think we can,
even when we don’t want to. Yet we know that with Christ, all things
are possible. Let your faith be your shield. Are you interested finding
out what St. Mary, Cause of Our Joy, High School Youth Ministry has
to offer? Then come and visit us at one of our upcoming meetings or
events. The high school ministry program is open to any 9th 12th
grade high school regardless of what high school you attend (public or
private). The youth group meets weekly on Mondays from 7:00 p.m.
9:00 p.m. from September until midJune. July brings the opportunity
to attend a week long summer mission trip and assist with the week
long evening vacation bible school program as part of the skit, song, or
game teams. Our first meeting will be held on Monday, September 12
at 7 pm in the new youth group room ( Room 105) in the parish cen
ter.

TODAY'S KNIGHTS: WHAT WE DO From the moment of our founding in 1882, charity has been
the first principle of the Knights of Columbus. We are men of
faith and men of action! In 2015, the Knights set a new all-
time record for the 17th consecutive year. Our charitable dona
tions increased from 2014 by more than $1.5 million to a new
total of $175,000,000. In addition, we achieved our highest level of charitable service
in 2015, volunteering more than 73 million hours of service. The number of service
hours contributed by Knights rose in 2015 by more than a million over the previous
year’s total.
"We are answering Pope Francis’ call to go to the peripheries,” Our Supreme
Knight Carl Anderson said. “We can reach half way around the globe to help those in
need and we can reach to our neighbor next door. And we do that every day. That
makes us witnesses to the faith." If you’d like to be a part of an international organi
zation of more than 1.9 million proud Catholic men whose principal work involves
helping others in need, we'd like to meet you and invite you to join us.

Killing! Killing! Murder!
PART I
The recent spate of violence
sweeping the country, the
many police officers being
killed, mobs becoming violent, has many
Americans bewildered. How did we get
to this point in our society? Why are
there so many who are angry? When the
Supreme Court legalized abortion on
demand for all nine months of pregnancy
in 1973 for any reason, our society start
ed dehumanizing and devaluing human
life. One of the reasons given for abor
tion was that the “goal” was to eliminate
child abuse. If you are old enough, you
may remember the pro-abort’s slogan:
“Every child a wanted child.” Killing the
babies who were not “wanted” was the
solution. Of course, this didn’t work be
cause the “logic” is completely faulty;
abortion hurts the woman and kills a
baby. To be continued next week…
