MISSION APPEAL

This weekend, we welcome Fr. Paulus

Wawan, s.x. of the St. Francis Xavier

Missionaries at all of our Masses as part of

the annual Missionary Cooperation Plan.

In 2007, Fr. Wawan graduated from the

Catholic Theological Union (Chicago, IL).

Immediately after his ordination, he was sent

as a missionary to Taiwan—China. He was

involved in various pastoral, cultural, and

social fields of ministry. In October, 2016, he

began a new experience: serving mentally

and physically challenged children in

southern China. This experience touched him

so deeply that it pushed him to come back to

the U.S. (in July, 2018) to go back to school

in order to broaden and enhance his

knowledge and understanding with mental

health issues. Currently, he lives in the

Xaverian Missionaries Community in

Franklin, Wisconsin. He is willing to share

his mission experience with anyone

interested.

Being exclusively a foreign mission society,

the Xaverian Fathers and Brothers depend

greatly on proceeds from this collection.

Thank you ahead of time for your generosity!

Greetings and Salutations,

A Summer Blessing for reflection…

Take time to claim your strength; they are gifts from

God.

Take time to have fun; Gods way of teaching you your

strengths.

Take time to grow yourself; only you can grow you.

Take time to trust yourself; God trusts you.

Take time to be self-reliant; it is better than being

dependent.

Take time to share with others; they will bless you, and

you will bless them.

Take time to have hope. You are a child of God.

Let’s put ourselves into the hands of the Lord, and

pray that God will bless us and our families during the

wonderful months of summer.

May we all help make our home a place of relaxation,

joy, peace, and safety.

May we be generous and considerate, not thinking only

about ourselves but helping others enjoy the blessings

of a summertime.

Lord God, Creator of all things, guide our steps and

strengthen our hearts, during these last months of

summer.

Grant us refreshment of mind and body.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. AMEN.

Peace and Prayers,

Just for laughs…What did the limestone say to the

geologist?

Don’t take me for granite

Keep Laughing,

Sabrina Queen

In this weeks gospel Jesus

recommends that we don’t

give up petitioning God for

those things we need, even

if we don’t get them right

away. As both the middle

kid, and now a dad, I can attest that

asking for things over and over does

seem to work with earthly parents. I have

full confidence that this holds true for our

Heavenly Father as well.

If you are someone who already prays,

keep up the good work, and I would ask

that once and awhile you pray that those

in our parish, their families, and our

community find a closer relationship with

God. If you are not someone who already

prays, just give it a try. Just pray that God

shows you that prayer works. Nobody but

God needs to know you are doing it, so

you don’t need to feel silly. Just don’t

give up after the first try. Beat on that

heavenly door and see what happens.

Letter to a Suffering Church:

A Bishop Speaks on the Sexual Abuse Crisis

The sexual abuse scandal has gripped the Catholic

Church for the past thirty years, and continues to wreak

havoc even today. It’s been a diabolical masterpiece,

one that has compromised the work of the Church in

every way and has left countless lives in ruin.

Bishop Robert Barron has written a short book titled

"Letter to a Suffering Church: A Bishop Speaks on the

Sexual Abuse Crisis" discussing this topic, and its ef-

fect on the Church in our time.

St. Mary, Cause of Our Joy has purchased a number of

copies of this new book for our Parishioners. We have

FREE copies in the back of the Church during the

Month of July, until our supply runs out.

Forever Young Seniors…

The Knights of Columbus will be in the gathering space after every Mass this

weekend. They will be collecting signatures to end dismemberment abortions

in Michigan! By working together, we can ban the inhumane abortion proce-

dure known as the D&E or dilation and evacuation method. This method of

abortion uses surgical instruments to forcibly remove arms and legs from a

living human being in the womb.

Michigan’s Constitution allows the people to initiate legislation through a pe-

tition. The petition seeks legislation that would amend our partial-birth abor-

tion ban by adding the equally horrific dismemberment abortion procedure to

that ban. The advantage of this approach is that the bill’s language cannot be

changed by the legislature, but more importantly, it cannot be vetoed by Gov-

ernor Whitmer! We need to collect 400,000 signatures, and we have 180 days

to do it, starting on June 26, 2019.

Coffee Sunday

Meet and get to know more of your

parish family members in the Social

Hall after the 8am and 10am Masses.

Anointing of the Sick

THIS Friday, August 2

nd

The celebration of the Sacrament of

Anointing of the Sick is intended for

anyone who is seriously impaired by

sickness, chronic illness, old age,

addictions, or emotional problems and

for those who are about to undergo

surgery, serious medical testing or be

admitted to the hospital. You do not

need to receive the sacrament every

month, only when your medical

condition changes drastically. The

Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick

takes place monthly at St. Mary, Cause

of Our Joy. It will be this Friday,

August 2

nd

beginning with the

celebration of the 8:30am Mass.

To make arrangements to celebrate the

sacrament at other times, please contact

our parish office. Patients in hospitals

and residents in nursing homes can be

anointed if they did not celebrate the

sacrament prior to admission. They or

their family members should contact

the institution’s Catholic chaplain to

make similar arrangements, or call the

parish office.

GOSPEL MEDITATION

17th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Are you guilty of spiritual stockpiling?

Spiritual stockpiling isn't an endless

rotation of rosaries and novenas. It's

accumulating emotional "goods" to meet

your needs. Perhaps it's a collection of

material objects you treasure. Maybe it's

a preoccupation with money. It could

also be relationships, making sure there's

always enough friends and connections

to never really feel alone. It's our

tendency to let things add up so that we

won't quite need God to fulfill our inner

life. Yet in this Sunday's Gospel, we

have that inescapable petition from the

Our Father. "Give us each day our daily

bread."

This life isn't an immediate arrival. And

as much as we might try to shore up

possessions and pleasures, we know the

journey is unpredictable. Give us this day

our daily bread implies enough for the

next set of steps, but not enough to

stockpile. So here's the big question: Do

we trust God to give us what we need?

After all, "What father among you would

hand his son a snake when he asks for a

fish?... how much more will the Father in

heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who

ask him?" At the Last Supper, Jesus said

he would never leave us orphaned. God

will not abandon us. And surely He

wouldn't ask us to pray for what He does

not intend to give.

Of course, sometimes our prayers for

daily help can seem to go unanswered.

Today's Gospel has advice for that, too.

"I tell you... he will give up to him

whatever he needs because of his

persistence." Our spiritual stockpiling

increases our self-reliance and decreases

our openness to God's possibilities. Be

persistent in your pursuit of God! Trust

that He will keep His promises to provide

for us, today and always.

Edgar, Adriana, Fernando & Elizabeth Sierra

And to all our newly registered members! If you have any questions about any of the

Committees or Groups at our Parish, please call the Parish Office at 734-425-4421
