Parish Mission Statement The Parish of St. Mary, Cause of Our Joy, inspired by Mary’s “Yes” and led by the Holy Spirit,
strives to be a faith-filled community, joyfully welcoming all to witness and to celebrate the Gospel.
LIVING ROSARY WEDNESDAY, MAY 23 at 7:00pm
(Please arrive by 6:45pm)
There is still time to sign-up to be part of this wonderful
tradition. This year Fr. Marcelo will lead us in prayer.
A Living Rosary is when people represent each bead of
the rosary to commemorate a loved one
either living or deceased.
We need YOU to make up one of the 60 beads. 60
flowers from this celebration will be planted on our parish
grounds to be enjoyed by all.
A light reception will follow.
Please call the office at 734-425-4421
to reserve a spot.
Our parish family pray for the success of our graduates and for their success in future endeavors.
We ask that God keep them healthy, happy and safe.

The Top Line Loving God, on the
first Pentecost you instructed the
hearts of those who believed in you
by the light of the Holy Spirit.
Under the inspiration of the same Spirit give us a
taste for what is right and true and a continuing
sense of the Spirit’s joy-bringing presence and
power. We ask this through Jesus Christ our
Lord. Amen.
Open Enrollment for 2018-19 Please let us
know if you have children to enroll in Faith
Formation. Forms are in church and the office.
Retirement Time I never thought I would, but
the time has come for me to actually retire from
full-time ministry. I began teaching in Catholic
Schools in 1966. If I am correct that adds up to
52 years of service to God and the People of God.
Earlier I had indicated that I would be moving to
PA to help in our Retreat House. Help out I was
willing to do but Program Director is not what I
signed up for. Sooooo I will stay at Mary’s Manor
in Farmington Hills and do things I can handle.
These past few months have been an emotional
time for me as I bid farewell to friends and what is
familiar. I will be around for a few more weeks,
purging files, making order, and paving the way
for my successor. See you ’round.
The Bottom Line A man took his beloved
Rottweiler to the vet and said to him, “My dog is
cross-eyed. Is there anything you can do for
him?” “Well”, said the vet, “let me take a look at
him.” So he picked up the dog and had a good
look at his eyes. “Well, said the vet, “I’m going to
have to put him down.” “Just because he’s cross-
eyed?” asked the man. “No,” said the vet,
“because he’s heavy.”

This weekend we celebrate Pentecost, the coming of the Holy Spirit, the
beginning of the Christian community and the commemoration of their
courage and fiery passion through that same Spirit. It is also the one-
year anniversary of Archbishop Vigneron’s pastor letter, “Unleash the
Gospel”, which calls us to be joyful and missionary in our lives.
Many of us feel inadequate, or unprepared to be missionaries. We know that we should hold ourselves back; it could be because we know our
own faults and don’t feel worthy. St. Theresa of Calcutta clearly realized
this about herself, saying “Yes, I have many human faults and failures…
But God bends down and uses us, you and me, to be his love and his
compassion in the world; he bears our sins, our troubles and our faults.
He depends on us to love the world and to show how much he loves it. If we are too concerned with ourselves, we will have no time left for
others”.
In his latest Apostolic letter “Gaudete et Exsultate” (Rejoice and Be
Glad), Pope Francis tells us that, “Far from being timid, morose, acerbic
or melancholy, or putting on a dreary face, we should be joyful and full
of good humor. Though completely realistic, we should radiate a positive and hopeful spirit. The Christian life is “joy in the Holy Spirit” (Rom
14:17), for “the necessary result of the love of charity is joy; since every
lover rejoices at being united to the beloved… the effect of charity is
joy”. Having received the beautiful gift of God’s word, we embrace it “in
much affliction, with joy inspired by the Holy Spirit” (1 Thes. 1:6). If we
allow the Lord to draw us out of our shell and change our lives, then we
can do as Saint Paul tells us: “Rejoice in the Lord always; I say it again,
rejoice!” Yes, Rejoice! Be Joyful in our faith!
Like the prophet Jonah, we are constantly tempted to flee to a safe haven.
It can have many names: individualism, spiritualism, living in a little
world, addiction, intransigence, the rejection of new ideas and
approaches, dogmatism, nostalgia, pessimism, hiding behind rules and
regulations. We can resist leaving behind a familiar and easy way of
doing things. Yet the challenges involved can be like the storm: they can
serve to bring us back to the God of tenderness, who invites us to set out
ever anew on our journey.
Let us ask the Lord for the grace not to hesitate when the Spirit calls us
to take a step forward. Let us ask for the apostolic courage to share the
Gospel with others and to stop trying to make our Christian life a
museum of memories. In every situation, may the Holy Spirit cause us to
contemplate history in the light of the risen Jesus. In this way, our
Church will not stand still, but constantly welcome the Lord’s surprises.
Let us not forget that Jesus asked his disciples to pay attention to details.
The little detail that wine was running out at a party.
The little detail that one sheep was missing.
The little detail of noticing the widow who offered her two small coins.
The little detail of having spare oil for the lamps, should the bridegroom
delay.
The little detail of asking the disciples how many loaves of bread they
had.
The little detail of having a fire burning and a fish cooking as he waited
for the disciples at daybreak.
A community that cherishes the little details of love, whose members
care for one another and create an open and evangelizing environment, is
a place where the risen Lord is present, sanctifying it in accordance with
the Father’s plan. There are times when, by a gift of the Lord’s love, we
are granted, amid these little details, consoling experiences of God.
May we become evangelizers, disciples, joyful and faith-filled. The
Spirit is ready to fill us with passion again.
