NOTES FROM PAUL...

This week we celebrate the
Epiphany of the Lord, when
the Wise Men, or Kings,
recognize (or reveal) that
God is incarnate as Jesus
Christ. These outsiders, come barring
gifts for a King. Growing up, we always
celebrated this Feast as "Little
Christmas," and each kid got something
small to remember the generosity of these
gifts. Even if you didn't get something
special this morning, remember how
amazing the gift of Jesus Christ was.
God, who was born man and died for our
sins, had given us the greatest gift. We
remember this at every Mass, but take a
little time today to think about it a little
more on this feast day. I pray that God is
revealed to each of us in a special way
today.

New Year Greetings and Salutations,
Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Epiphany of
the Lord. We hear the story of the 3 wise men, or
Magi, who saw a star and came in search of the infant
Jesus. The word, epiphany is Greek for “showing
forth.”
When the Magi followed the star, they recognized
Jesus as the long awaited Messiah and worshipped him.
The wise men brought gifts to baby Jesus. What gifts
can you give to Jesus, the infant king?
Reminder to all Faith Formation families; on December
16
th
our last class before Christmas break, each student
was given a piece of chalk and directions to bless one
of their entry ways at home. Today is the day we bless
or entryway. The instructions and pray are on a yellow
piece of paper in the Ziploc bag with the chalk. Yay!
Have fun!!!
Classes resume tomorrow January 6
th
at 6:00p.m. See
you then!
Why do we tell actor’s to “break a leg?”
Because every play has a cast! Ahhhhhh hahaha!
Love and Laughs,
Sabrina Queen

THANK YOU!

Thank you to everyone who helped with our Giving Tree this past year. You helped put Christ-
mas presents under the tree for 68 Children, as well donating Gift and Gas Cards that our parish
will use throughout the year. You also helped the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul with mone-
tary donations that will pay medical and utility bills of our neighbors, and sometimes even keep
them in their homes. You are helping build the Kingdom of God in our neighborhood.

Epiphany, where the Magi find the
newborn king and offer him gifts
of gold, frankincense and myrrh.

St. Vincent de Paul Poor by putting a marked
envelope in the collection basket so that
comfort and peace can once again be given to a

Signing of the Door on Epiphany

A popular tradition celebrated on Epiphany is the marking with chalk inside the
main doorway of a house with the following: 20+C+M+B+20. The writing on
the doorway signifies:

     20 = the current century (2020)
     + = Jesus' Cross
C = the initial of the Wiseman Casper
M = the initial of the Wiseman Melchior
B = the initial of the Wiseman Balthazar
     20 = the current year

As a family writes these initials and numbers over the door, each member makes
a promise to look for Jesus until he/she finds Him. They are challenged to look
for Jesus in the lives of all people who visit their home. The family also promis-
es all who enter may find Jesus in their home as the family practices virtues of
consolation, understanding, hospitality, rest, forgiveness and love.
It is most fitting that we should bless the doors of our home every year in Janu-
ary. The first month of the year gets its name from the Roman God Janus whose
name means "gate" or "door" and the first month is the door to the New Year.
May it be a happy and truly holy one!
HOLY NAME FRATERNITY

The purpose of the Holy Name Fraternity is to: 1. promote fellowship between
the men of the parish and to assist the parish and community both physically
and financially whenever possible; 2. conduct activities for the benefit of the
parish family and community; 3. aid the members in their duty to God and His
Church. Holy Name Fraternity (HNF) is open to all men of St. Mary, Cause of
Our Joy Parish. We meet at 7 pm, the thirdTuesdayof each month, September
through May. Meetings are in the small social hall. Please consider joining us.

Permanent Diaconate
Men discerning a call to the permanent
diaconate can attend an information night
at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in De-
troit on Tuesday, January 7.

Permanent deacons play an important
role in the life of the Church and in par-
ishes across the Archdiocese of Detroit.
Attendees will learn about the applica-
tion process and requirements for enter-
ing formation for the permanent diaco-
nate.

The CSA supports men studying for the
permanent diaconate at Sacred Heart
Major Seminary and funds the work of
the archdiocesan Office for Clergy and
Consecrated Life and the Permanent
Deacon Formation Team, which coordi-
nate diaconal ministry and formation.

EPIPHANY PROCLAMATION 2020
While a day like Christmas is fixed in our minds and on the calendars
on December 25th, many of the important feasts of the Church year
move, based upon the date that Easter is set. Easter changes each
year moving to the Sunday after the “Paschal Full Moon,” and can fall
between March 22 and April 25.
In ancient times before calendars were common, most people did not
know the dates for the upcoming Liturgical year. On Epiphany
Sunday, the upcoming dates were “proclaimed” after the gospel in
this way:
Dear brothers and sisters, the glory of the Lord has shone upon us,
and shall ever be manifest among us, until the day of his return.
Through the rhythms of times and season let us celebrate the
mysteries of salvation.
Let us recall the year’s culmination, the Easter Triduum of the Lord:
his last supper, his crucifixion, his burial, and his rising celebrated
between the evening of the Ninth of April and the evening of the
Eleventh day of April, Easter Sunday being on the Twelfth day of
April.
Each Easter-as on each Sunday-the Holy Church makes present the
great and saving deed by which Christ has for ever conquered sin and
death. From Easter are reckoned all the days we keep holy.
Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent, will occur on the Twenty-
Sixth day of February.
The Ascension of the Lord will be commemorated on Sunday, the
Twenty-first day of May.
Pentecost, joyful conclusion of the season of Easter, will be
celebrated on the Thirty-first day of May.
And, this year the First Sunday of Advent will be on the Twenty-
ninth of November 2020.
Likewise the pilgrim Church proclaims the Passover of Christ in the
feasts of the holy Mother of God, in the feast of the Apostles and
Saints, and in the commemoration of the faithful departed.
To Jesus Christ, who was, who is, and who is to come, Lord of
time and history, be endless praise, for every and ever.
Amen.

Hall after the 8am and 10am Masses.
