Third Sunday of Advent December 13, 2020
You might notice that John does not use Jesus’ name
in this Gospel, but only refers to him as “one whom
you do not recognize.” Although they knew the text of
Isaiah the Pharisees were not really prepared to find
the promised Messiah among the broken- hearted, the
lonely, those held in captivity or those lacking justice
and peace. Do we know where to look for Jesus? Will
we recognize him among those most ignored and for-
gotten in our world?
“I baptize with water; but there is one among
you whom you do not recognize, the one who is
coming after me, whose sandal strap I am not
worthy to untie.” JN 1:27
