As our teenage students and parishioners prepare to travel to Washington, D.C. this week for the Pro-Life March allow me to share a few quotes with you:

“Abortion and racism are both symptoms of a fundamental human error. The error is thinking that when someone stands in the way of our wants,

we can justify getting that person out of our lives. Abortion and racism stem from the same poisonous root, selfishness.” ~ Alveda King, daughter of Martin Luther King

“Abortion is not a sign that women are free, but a sign that they are desperate.” ~ Frederica Mathews-Green, author

“Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching its people to love but to use violence to get what they want.” ~ St. Teresa of Calcutta

Please pray for us as we do our best to eliminate the poison that is abortion. Ask God to give us a safe journey and to instill within our younger parishioners a strong desire to stand in defense of the unborn. Our Church and our nation needs their commitment and courage. They need your prayers and support.

Last year I was very impressed on my first visit to D.C. for the Pro-Life March. There were so many people of every age and from every walk of life with different religions and hometowns. But there we were, joining together in this noble cause and all of us uplifted by the prayers of the folks back home. Our parishioners see so much and learn so much from this trip. That knowledge, I pray, will inspire them for a lifetime.

I have to leave St. Louis earlier than expected this week. A buddy from seminary days and a good friend for almost 40 years died last week and his funeral is Tuesday in Destin, Florida. Fr. Kevin Johnson was a generous, funny, and holy priest, a wonderful shepherd to his people. He was only 59 when kidney failure took his earthly life.

So, I’ll fly Monday to Florida, go to the Funeral Mass Tuesday, fly to Washington Wednesday, meet up with our parishioners Thursday, march on Friday and fly home Saturday. What a week! Pray for me and know that I will be praying for you.

May God bless you always, Father Hambrough

THE LAMB OF GOD

"Behold the Lamb of God!" We hear this phrase every Sunday at Mass, but there's a good chance that many

Roman Catholics do not know who in the Bible originally spoke it. The phrase appears only in the Gospel of John,

on the lips of John the Baptist, who utters it twice. In today's Gospel reading, John proclaims Jesus as the Lamb of God, and two of John's own disciples then follow Christ. A little bit later Andrew, who heard John and then followed Jesus, brings his brother Simon to be re-named Cephas, or

Peter. A careful look at these Bible verses shows us the mission of everyone baptized into the Body of Christ: we

must always proclaim our faith in Christ, so that others will follow him. We may not know how the will of God might

work through those we bring to Christ; that is not the point. The point is that our ongoing mission as a church is to

bring others to Christ, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.

A note received from Archbishop Carlson and Sandy Koller, Vice-President at

Cardinal Glennon Hospital: Since 1956, SSM Health Cardinal Glennon

Children’s Hospital has touched the lives of children throughout our region and across the country. The common thread is that all children are treated as precious children of God, regardless of their family’s ability to pay. SSM Health Cardinal Glennon can continue its healing ministry to those ill and injured children in “Our Dear Lord’s” care because of your love, care and compassion for infants and children that are less fortunate.

We received your parish’s collection of $4,067 on December 6, 2017. Your faithful generosity helps to provide millions of dollars each year in charity care, or as we still refer to it, “Our Dear Lord’s” care.

Thank you once again for making a difference in the lives of Cardinal Glennon kids.
