PARISH ANNOUNCEMENTS Concerns about the COVID-19 Vaccines

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) issued a statement concerning the use of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine for use in the Unit-ed States. They made it clear that, whenever possible, the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines should be chosen over the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, as they did not use cell lines from aborted fetuses in their production process. We should not use the Johnson and Johnson vaccine since the other two options are available. When getting a vaccine, ask what vaccine they are using to ensure you are receiving the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines.

24 Hour Adoration

St. Madeleine is offering a 24 Hour Adoration every first and third Friday of every month, if there are enough peo-ple to cover every hour. Adoration begins on Friday after the morning Mass and concludes on Saturday at 12 noon. Anyone interested in volunteering to spend an hour or more with Jesus, please call Karen Ortiz at 909-764-7097, Dolores Cazares at 909-634-6112 or Dennis & Anna Duvall at 909-263-1582.

Candles If you want to remind people to pray for your intentions placed at the front of the church, please do not place or light the candle yourself. Make sure the candle is saved for Padre and he will place the candle and make sure it is lit. This is to prevent unnecessary contact caused by pass-ing candles and lighters around. You can pick up a candle from the office or from the Religious Education Office.

Missalettes Available We are unable to use the missalettes since articles and books cannot be passed around. This is to prevent the spread of disease. If you would like a missalette for a $2 donation, contact the office to make the arrangement.

Food Bag Distribution St. Madeleine provides bags of groceries for those in need. If you can help, we are in need of donations of canned vegetables, rice, beans, pasta & sauce, cereal, oatmeal, oil, jelly, peanut butter, and tortillas. Thank you to the many familiar faces who show up during the week at St. Madeleine with bags of grocery donations.

DID YOU KNOW? Revisit Screen Time Recommendations Parents everywhere are struggling to be parents, teachers, and friends for their children in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, many are likely and understandably relying on screens to help them through these seemingly endless days. Many children are also online for school, which only increas-es their screen exposure. The American Pediatric Association warns parents that too much screen time can lead to sleep problems, lower grades, mood and weight problems, and can keep children from learning how to relax and have fun without a screen present. Try to make time for reading, play-ing games, and other screen-free activities that will help break the cycle of screen addiction and talk to your chil-dren’s teachers about how screen time for school can be managed.

Treasures From Our Tradition Ask senior parishioners about this fifth Sunday, and they will share memories of this Sunday years ago, when it was known as “Passion Sunday.” In those days, the statues and crucifixes were draped in purple cloth, and a deeply somber atmosphere infused worship. The structure is different today for good reason. The stunning changes in the appearance of the church building drew attention away from the twofold work of Lent: reconciliation and preparing for initiation. To-day, this Sunday is given to reflection on the necessity to commit, like Jesus, to the Father’s will. Wherever elect are present today, the “A” reading reveals Jesus’ compassion in the face of human suffering, and his desire to call us from the tombs of sin, isolation, and even death itself. As Lent draws to a close over the next ten days, and before the beginning of the Easter Triduum on Holy Thursday, we enter an ideal time for celebrating the sacrament of recon-ciliation. Today’s old title of “Passion Sunday” has migrated to next Sunday, also called “Palm Sunday.” In many places, people prepare their own bundles of branches for next week’s liturgy: pussy willow, forsythia, dogwood. If your par-ish schedules a procession, you may want to prepare these branches at home and bring them along.

I will place my law within them and write it upon their hearts; I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

MERCY SUNDAY INDULGENCE/INDULGENCIA DEL DOMINGO DE MISERICORDIA

St. John Paul II not only declared Divine Mercy Sunday a uni-versal feast of the Church, but in 2002 he attached a ple-nary indulgence to it. (An indulgence is a remission before God of the temporal punishment due to sins whose guilt has already been forgiven, this means no purgatory) A plenary indulgence can be gained only once a day. In order to obtain it, the faithful must, in addition to being in the state of grace (a state a grace implies you have no sins you have not confessed) and:

have the interior disposition of complete detachment from sin, even venial sin;

• partake of sacramental Confession;

• receive the Holy Eucharist

• pray for the intentions of the Pope Completed the specific conditions of the indulgence

(see following for Divine Mercy) The specific conditions or “work” required: “On Di-vine Mercy Sunday...

• in any Catholic church or chapel, in a spirit that is com-pletely detached from the affection for a sin, even a venial sin, take part in the prayers and devotions held in honor of Divine Mercy or, in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament exposed or reserved in the tabernacle, recite the Our Father and the Creed, adding a devout prayer to the merciful Lord Jesus (e.g. “Merciful Jesus, I trust in you!”).” Monday March 29 at 7pm presented by Joyce Tullius "Divine Mercy - Precious in Jesus" Divine Mercy is a way of life. Divine Mercy reaches human beings through the Heart of Christ crucified...Christ pours out this mercy on humanity through the sending of the Spirit who, in the Trinity, is the Person - Love. (St. Pope John Paul II) Since we are in the season of Lent, this time of returning to Christ whole heartedly begins with the implicit truth that every human being is valuable. Each person is precious in God's eyee; Christ gave His life for each one; to everyone the Father gives His Spirit and offers intimacy. Come and disco-ver intimacy with Christ!

tener la disposición interior de desprendimiento total de pecado, incluyendo pecado venial;
