From Fr. Mark’s Desk: Third Sunday of Advent: “What did you go out to the desert to see?” In another place in the Gospel of Ma hew, we hear Jesus ask a ques on: “Which of you having a hundred sheep and losing one does not leave the ninety nine and go search for the one?” We think of this ques on, perhaps, as something outside ourselves. A possession, a thing or even a rela onship might be what we consider. But, wonder if we think of it in terms of our interiority. What happens if we lose something of ourselves? What happens if we lose hope, faith, imagina on, desire, or love? Wonder if part of ourselves is missing? How do we find it? The answer is a process, as you can imagine, but it is a process of which Jesus intends to be part. He will heal, forgive, trust, sacrifice, and love; for us. The desert is o en our soul, and what we hope to see is what we have lost. Jesus has come to seek the lost and find them. Look inwardly to find what you have lost, Jesus will find you! “Awaken your spirit to adventure; Hold nothing back, learn to find ease in risk; Soon you will be home in a new rhythm, For your soul senses the world that awaits you.” -John O’Donohue —For a New Beginning ~Please pray for the people of St. Michael Parish in Orland Park as they suffer through these difficult days. We are all one church, united by one faith. By that same faith we assure them they are not alone. ~Please join us for our school Christmas Na vity Pageant this Tuesday at 6:30pm in church. ~Many ask about Fr Gene and he o en asks about you. As you know, he lives at Mercy Cir-cle and is doing well. If you feel so inclined, I would love for you to consider sending a Christ-mas card, not stuff, just a card!! If you would be willing either mail it to Mercy Circle or drop it off at the rectory and I will make sure he receives it. Thank you!! Have a great week! Fr. Mark Walter

Stewardship… “You too must be pa ent. Make your hearts firm,

because the coming of the Lord is at hand.” (JAMES 5:8)

Pa ence is another one of those things many of us struggle with. We want things to go according to our plan and our schedule. Any change brings anxiety and fear. Through daily prayer we be er align ourselves with God’s will and His plan, which is far be er than anything we can come up with on our own.

The St. Vincent de Paul Society

LOVE IN OUR WORK In today’s Gospel Jesus tells us that the good news can be seen, touched, felt and heard through the lives of God’s people. We are now charged to take up the min-istry of Jesus. But we can’t just ask peo-ple to take our word for it; our actions must speak for us.

Since Christmas is a time of love and gift giving, please share in Jesus’ ministry by giving a gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul so those who are poor can know the good news of Jesus.

THIS weekend is our monthly non-perishable food collection for the St. Margaret of Scotland food pantry. Please be generous as we strive to feed the hungry at Christmas.

PLEASE NOTE: We are always looking for new members or volunteers. Leave your name and number

at the rectory. If you have borrowed a wheelchair from

St. Vincent de Paul and are no longer in need of it, please return it to the rectory. Thank you.

Clothing collection boxes are still located at St. Gerald and St. Germaine parishes

Please save any donations for our “Bundle Weekends”, or bring them to the above boxes.

Oplatki Christmas Tradition

The tradition of the Oplatki originated in Po-land during Early Christian times. This Christmas custom began with a simple white wafer, baked from flour and water. The wafers are wonderfully de-signed to display Christmas images, such as the Na-tivity. The Oplatki are enjoyed by families, typical-ly right before the Christmas Eve meal. The entire family will gather around the table with the Oplatki. Generally the eldest member of the family will begin the ritual of breaking off a piece of the wafer, and passing it to another family member with a blessing. The blessing can simply consist of what you desire for your loved one in the upcoming year—whether it be good health, success or happiness. The Oplatki tradition is one that is easy and fun to introduce to the family at Christmastime. All it requires is a simple wafer paired with love and affection, and the willingness to share it. This is a heart-warming tradition that will complete your fam-ily’s time together during the Christmas season.

Please come to the back of church on December 15th to purchase your Oplatki

A $3.00 offering per packet

would be greatly appreciated

Last Sunday the students performed a reenactment of Juan Die-go meeting Our Lady of Guadalupe! The students performed the roles of Juan Diego, the Bishop, the narrator and of course Our Lady. The little children presented roses to Our Lady. It was beautifully performed and a lovely way to commemorate the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
