JOSEPH’S CATHOLIC CHURCH From the Pastor’s Laptop will cease their attacks on life. Many times the Lord does not give us exactly what we ask for. When we ask Jesus to do something for us, we should try to remember what He has ALREADY done for us! He already came down from his throne in heaven to be born for us in a poor manger. He already suffered for us the most horrible humiliations, torture and crucifixion, death and burial. He already gave us himself in the form of simple bread and wine. What MORE do we wish Him to do for us? Sometimes we forget all this and we still say: “We want you to do for us whatever we ask of you." Let us try to be grateful to God for what He has ALREADY done for us. And let us thank God that we have such a loving Savior who is always patient with us and always invites us to continue asking for whatever we want: “What do you wish me to do for you?" Even if He does not give us exactly what we want when we want it, we know that in His kingdom He will have a special place prepared for us and for our loved ones together with Him in His kingdom! Father Mark Wagner In today’s Gospel two of the Apostles are so incredibly presumptuous that they come up to Jesus and say: “Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you.” Jesus is incredibly patient and simply responds “What do you wish me to do for you?” He does not reprimand them. Jesus loves them as He loves each of us and He sincerely wants to give us what we desire if at all possible. Then the two apostles proceed to ask Jesus for the privilege of sitting at His right and at His left in his glorious kingdom. Jesus tells them that the glories of heaven cannot be earned without drinking a cup of suffering in this life. We ask Jesus for things. Some of our parishioners are praying for healing for loved ones who are sick. They ask for relief for those who are agonizing. Ministry Fire and burn prevention for

children: Practice what to do in a fire emergency. Get low and get out! Teach them never to play

with matches and lighters. Teach them 2 ways out of the

help. Make sure you have working smoke alarms in the house!

One of the things that Jesus stressed when he came to this world was the importance of serving the poor. Kyle Kemper is the Coordinator of our St. Vincent de Paul Food Logistics. Our pantry serves nearly 30,000 individuals each year, regardless of religion. With this amount of need the volume of food needed is great. Thankfully, we have wonderful people who donate cans of food and money to buy pallets of cans each month. Kyle is such a blessing! He puts order to this process by organizing the food in

“The importance of serving the poor”

the storage room and then coordinating volunteers to put together bags of food for each family. This is a huge task that he whole heartedly embraces. In addition to this, Kyle helps out at almost all of the parish events including the Parish Festival, Parish Clean-up day and at the quarterly Parish Movie Nights. When he has spare time he also helps out in the office with bulletins and other parish-wide mailings. Kyle has a lot of talents and demonstrates beautiful stewardship of them. It is so wonderful that he is willing and able to share them. We are blessed to have Kyle in our parish family.

Parish Stewardship — a way of life

By Bertha Malfavon

When was the last time you attended a funeral reception at St. Joseph’s

Church? If the answer is “never,” then you are not aware of the delicious, beautifully decorated reception our Funeral Reception Volunteers provide. Our parishioner families pay a small fee, just enough to cover the cost of the food, and our parish volunteers decorate and prepare for the reception. If the answer is “yes,” then you are aware of the delicious, beautifully decorated reception that our Funeral Reception Volunteers provide. You have seen the smiling faces of both the volunteers and the family members. Why do parishioners volunteer to help with funeral receptions? It feels good to help provide something lovely for our parishioner families who are grieving. It feels good to see the faces walk into the Hall and see everything completely ready for them, so that they can just relax and visit with the family and friends of their loved one. What does it take to be a funeral reception volunteer? For commitment of time, funerals are not something that can be planned. Some weeks have absolutely no funeral receptions at our parish and some weeks have one or two. Sometimes more than several weeks will pass without a reception. Our current volunteers are flexible and we know that they are not always available for every funeral reception. They enjoy friendly people and getting to know other friendly people, as they prepare food, spread tablecloths and help as needed. Our Coordinator, Kathie Lee Vermillion, welcomes your help. Please call the Center for Lay Apostolates to put your name on our wonderful roster of funeral reception volunteers.

¡Gracias Kyle!
