A Stewardship Moment  Twen eth Sunday in Ordinary Time

August 15 and 16, 2015

Jesus announces that he is the “living bread.” And we un-derstand that the Eucharist is the center of our life in faith: in our families, parish, local church and throughout the world. We are the stewards of Christ’s life in the Eucharist. We are called to put the Eucharist into ac on. How do we do that? St. Paul enjoins us to be always grateful, to wor-ship, to try to understand the will of the Lord and to watch carefully how we live. What are some of the ways we can put the Eucharist into ac on this week?

Tradi onal Adult Choir

The Tradi onal Adult Choir is open to any parishioner of St. Francis Xavier, high-school-aged or older, who has a desire to promote a full, ac ve and conscious par cipa on in the liturgy through music. This group primarily sings at the 10 a.m. liturgy each Sunday as well as major feasts and holidays from Septem-ber through May. While reading music and/or professional train-ing is not required, a pleasant voice, eagerness to work together, willingness to learn new music and the desire to sing well are strongly encouraged. This group prac ces on Thursday evenings from 7:45 to 9:15 p.m. in the choir lo . This group is directed by Ryan Neal.

Cantor The primary role of a cantor is to serve as psalmist – lead-ing and proclaiming the verses of the Responsorial Psalm and Gospel Acclama on. In addi on, the cantor is a leader of congre-

ga onal singing. A cantor must possess confident and rehearsed singing as well as having a pleasing singing voice. Monthly train-ing workshops are provided within the parish to prepare our cantors for this important ministry. An audi on is required to serve in this role at St. Francis Xavier.

Youth Choir The Youth Choir is open to any student, grades three through eight, who enjoys singing. Our focus will be on learning sound musical techniques and basic musicianship while having fun and making music for the glory of God. The Youth Choir sings twice a month at the 12 p.m. liturgy as well as special feasts and holidays. Rehearsals are held 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. Thursdays in the choir lo . This group is directed by Marian Fletcher.

Saturday Evening Small Group This year, we would like to develop a new, regular group of sing-ers open to high-school-aged individuals and older with an em-phasis toward our younger parishioners. While a regular rehears-al schedule has yet to be determined, we will meet at 4:15 p.m. for the 5 p.m. weekly liturgy. Please contact Ryan Neal.

Resurrec on Funeral Choir The Resurrec on Choir is an important element of each funeral liturgy celebrated at St. Francis Xavier. Open to any individual who is available to sing on weekday and Saturday mornings, this group prac ces 30 minutes prior to each funeral liturgy. There are no audi ons for this choir; however, a pleasant voice and the ability to a end rehearsals are important. Membership in the Tradi onal Adult Choir is encouraged and helpful in learning music in harmony. Please contact Ryan Neal.

Instrumentalists Any parishioner high-school aged or older who is proficient on a string, wind or brass instrument is encouraged to share his or her musical talent at St. Francis Xavier. Extra instrumenta on is welcome at all liturgies, but most no ceably during the Advent, Lent, Christmas and Easter seasons. Please contact Ryan Neal.

Youth Choir Aide Parents and guardians of Youth Choir members are always needed to assist with the Youth Choir. Volunteers are needed on Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings to assist in distribu ng music, etc. Please contact Marian Fletch-er.

As I stated last week, the ves bule project hit another snag. As you can see from the picture, the precast con-

crete slabs that support the floor have deteriorated where the doors used to be extending into the west ves-

bule. The floor will have to be en rely removed and re-poured to ensure structural safety. This will add me and money to the project. We are in the process of de-

termining the best way to take care of this unexpected problem so we do not have a definite date for comple on. Please con nue to pray for the safety of all the workers here.
