Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time August 29 and 30, 2015
In the reading from the letter of St. James we are urged to be “doers” of the Gospel, not just listeners. Being a “steward” of God’s Word is a matter of lis-tening to the Good News, embracing the Good News and putting the Good News into action in our day-to-day lives. And whenever we are uncertain as to what decisions to make or actions to take as good stew-ards of the Gospel, St. James reminds us: We can never go wrong if we resist popular values that are not compatible with the Gospel, and we come to the aid of those who are burdened, distressed and poor.
Adults Desiring to be Confirmed Have you thought about receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation? For one reason or another, you may have not been confirmed earlier in your faith journey. A faith formation program will be held on Sunday mornings to help prepare adults to be confirmed. Alive in the Spirit is a program to explore the Sac-rament of Confirmation and include immediate prepara-tion for receiving the sacrament in November when Bishop Roger Gries comes to our parish. Meetings will be on each of the five Sunday mornings: Sept. 25; Oct. 4, 11, 18 and 25 at 11 a.m. in the parish office. Please contact Fr. Thom for information and to register ([email protected]).

St. Francis Xavier Catholic School Update
Last week our kindergartners had the chance to se le in, and we welcomed our preschool-ers to the Li le Sailors Preschool. Now liter-
ally every room is officially busy with ac vity. Our opening school liturgy was a beau ful, prayerful celebra on and a true witness that our school is commi ed to teaching re-spect for God, respect for oneself and respect for others. I would like to thank all of the staff and parents for helping to make the first few weeks go so smoothly. I appreciate your pa ence and understanding as we con nue to make our school safe for all of the students, especially during morning arrival and a ernoon dismissal. As we begin our third week, for the con nued safety of all of our students, I would like to encourage our parents to respect our visitors policy and sign in at the school office if you need to enter the building. Safe-ty is a major concern for all of us, and the staff takes extra care to be sure that all students and visitors are safe when in the building and on our school campus. Work is coming along on the new Learning Center and we hope to hear about a move-in date very soon. Currently, our Learning Center staff has been busy in their temporary homes in the school building. So many people help to make our school a Christ-centered place. The en re staff of St. Francis Xavier School
is commi ed to providing outstanding Catholic educa on for the success of every student. There are a few unsung heroes on staff who may not receive the gra tude that they so de-serve. I would like to thank several women who have worked extremely hard over the summer months to be sure that all of the “back-to-school needs” for our staff, parents and students have been met. A giant, hear elt thank you goes out to Mrs. Diane Salamon, our assistant principal; and Mrs. Dreama Kellner, Mrs. Kathy Metzger and Mrs. Joyce Dolinar, our office staff. Each of these dedicated women has put in many hours of work throughout the summer months to prepare for the upcoming year. As you come and go this school year, please be sure to thank these ladies for their dedica on to St. Francis Xavier School. I would also like to thank Mr. Michael Podrasky, our technology coordinator, for all of his efforts this summer. Mr. Podrasky has put in count-less hours of work ge ng our school “tech-ready,” and we are grateful to him. Please remember that the bloodmobile will be here Sunday, Sept. 6, and that school is not in session Monday, Sept. 7, in observance of Labor Day. Have a blessed week. In Christ, Mrs. Seislove

We are very pleased to announce the beginning of this year’s Youth Choir season. Rehearsals will be held on Thursdays from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. in the church choir lo beginning Thursday, Sept. 10. Membership is open to any youth in grades 3-8, whether they a end SFX school, pub-lic school or are home schooled. I hope to have some gen-tlemen join us, as well as the ladies. (Listen to the radio or your iPod, I assure you there are many guys who love to sing.) The youth will sing at Sunday noon Masses throughout the year, usually twice per month, and for other special occasions. I’m personally very excited to begin work with the youth as their director. It promises to be both a fun and rewarding experience for all of us. Our focus will be on learning sound musical techniques and basic musicianship while having fun and making music for the glory of God. In order to plan ahead, I ask that those interested in joining email me at [email protected] at their ear-liest convenience. You may also direct any ques ons to me at this address. God’s Blessings,
Marian Fletcher

10 St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church August 30, 2015
Next weekend we will be having a host of events at the parish. The Ministry Fair will take place in the church basement a er the morning Masses. At the same me, it is Hospitality Sunday, so please plan on stopping down a er the 8, 10 and noon Masses to meet other members of the parish and to take a look at all of the good ways people are sharing their gi s with others in various minis-tries and acts of service that help us at St. Francis Xavier to ac vely live our faith in Christ. For those who give blood, the LifeShare mobile collec on van will be here on-site to make that possible. I would imagine that the crowds will be a li le light as people travel over the long holiday weekend, so if crowds scare you a bit this might be the perfect me to stop down. Some me in the next three weeks, the power compa-ny will be working with the electricians to connect the new breaker boxes to our transformer. The new boxes will control the new air condi oning units in the choir lo , the power in the new West Ves bule and the unit a ached to the new soffit. So… it means the church will not have pow-
er while this is being completed. They tell me it’s only the church (who knows for sure) and the work is schedule for off hours. The rectory and school should be unaffected. Not knowing exactly when all the stars will align to make this possible, please listen to announcements at Mass, read emails and be a en ve to posted signs should we be affected during our hours of opera on. We will also post this informa on on the parish Facebook page and the website (unless of course that is not working if the servers are down due to the change!). Father Chris will be out of the country on a trip with some of his priest buddies to El Salvador from Sept. 1 to 10. Please pray for their safety. And Father Thom will be gone Sept. 14 to 18. They both work hard and deserve a break. I pray for all of you that you might have a blessed La-bor Day with family and friends. Please note that the office will be closed and that there will be no 7:30 a.m. or 7 p.m. Masses that day, only a 9 a.m. Mass. St. Vincent DePaul will have the night off as well, and normal Monday ac vi es will be canceled. Have a great week!
