We give thanks to God for all our wonderful

parishioners as we look forward to Thanksgiving Day. We have been blessed by 7,000 parishioners who come each weekend to celebrate the Eucharist, a Greek word that simply means “the thanksgiving.” Every time we gather for Mass we are primarily thanking the Father for sending us his Son who has saved us and who invites us to live in Communion with him and in communion with each other. Turkey and dressing and all the trimmins’ are delicious and wonderful, but the best way to give thanks to God is to celebrate the Eucharist. Let’s do both. On Thanksgiving Day, Fr. Zach has volunteered to celebrate the Mass at 6:30 am in the Chapel for those who would love to attend Mass but who also need to put the turkey in the oven real early. I will be celebrating the 8:30 am Mass in English in the Church, and Fr. Ivan will celebrate the 10:00 Mass in Spanish in the Church. The generous collection that day will go entirely to our own St. Vincent De Paul Society, and the members will use those funds to help the needy this season. The office will be closed, and regular Confessions at 6:00 will be canceled. On Friday, the office will be closed, but regular Masses at 8:30 am in English and at 6:30 pm in Spanish will be celebrated as normal.

Next weekend we look forward to the beginning of the new liturgical year with the First Sunday of Advent, a time for hoping for a better world, a more peaceful world, a holy world touched by the Lord Jesus who came to save us and who will come to save us. It’s also a time for hoping for a better me, a more peaceful me, and a more holy me. Come, Lord Jesus.

The following Sunday, December 7, we celebrate the first anniversary of the Dedication of our new Church and Chapel. Be sure to include that when you give thanks to God. Please notice the two new memorial benches in plaza between the front of the chapel and closest to the steps leading to the south parking lot. One bench is in memory Fr. Joseph Mitchell, who served as our founding pastor from 1982 to 1998. The other bench is in memory of Deacon Daniel Covarrubias, who served at the parish from 2006 to 2011.

Damos gracias a Dios por todos nuestros mara-

villosos feligreses al acercarnos al Día de Gracias. He-mos sido bendecidos con 7,000 feligreses quienes vienen cada fin de semana a celebrar la Eucaristía, una palabra griega que simplemente significa “acción de dar gracias.” Cada vez que nos reunimos en Misa estamos principalmen-te dando gracias al Padre por enviarnos a su Hijo quien nos ha salvado y quien nos invita a vivir en Comunión con él y en comunión con el prójimo. El pavo y el aderezo y todas las decoraciones son deliciosos y maravillosos, pero la me-jor manera de dar gracias a Dios es celebrar la Eucaristía. Hagamos ambas cosas. El Día de Acción de Gracias, el P. Zach se ha voluntariado para celebrar la Misa a las 6:30 am. en inglés en la capilla para aquellos quienes les encan-taría asistir a Misa pero también necesitan poner el pavo en el horno muy temprano. Yo celebraré la Misa a las 8:30 am en inglés en la Iglesia, y el P. Iván celebrará la Misa a las 10:00 am. en español en la Iglesia. La generosa colecta de ese día será para nuestro grupo de San Vicente de Paúl, y los miembros utilizarán esos fondos para ayudar a los ne-cesitados en esta temporada. La oficina estará cerrada el jueves, y las Confesiones regulares a las 6:00 pm serán canceladas. El viernes, la oficina estará cerrada, pero las Misas regulares de 8:30 am en inglés y a las 6:30 pm en español serán celebradas como es usual.

El próximo fin de semana esperamos comenzar el nuevo año litúrgico con el Primer Domingo de Adviento, un tiempo de esperanza, de un mundo mejor, un mundo de paz, un mundo santo conmovido por el Señor Jesús quien ha venido al mundo a salvarnos y quien vendrá a salvarnos. También es un tiempo de esperanza para que yo sea me-jor, para estar en paz, y ser más santo. Ven, Señor Jesús.

El próximo domingo, 7 de diciembre, celebramos el primer aniversario de la Dedicación de nuestra nueva Igle-sia y Capilla. Por favor incluyen eso cuando den gracias a Dios. Por favor vean las dos bancas nuevas conmemora-tivas ubicadas en la plaza entre la parte de enfrente de la capilla y cerca de los escalones que llevan hacia el estacio-namiento del lado sur. Una banca es en memoria del P. Joseph Mitchell, quien sirvió como párroco fundador desde 1982 a 1998. Y la otra banca es en memoria del Diácono Daniel Covarrubias, quien sirvió en la parroquia desde el 2006 al 2011.

HEARING LOSS MINISTRY

“My hearing has been degenerating for 4 or 5 years. Because I heard negative experiences with hearing aids, I put off getting one. For 2 years or so, I have been unable to under-stand what was said at Mass. To appease my family, and to hear the Mass, I obtained hearing aids. As the new church was built, I was told to expect an advanced system for hear-ing directly from the microphones on the altar. Now, true to the promise, I hear the entire Mass. When I first used it, I turned to my companion and said “WOW!” With this system, I now hear every word at Mass with no background noise. I feel like my ability to hear has been restored. I am ever grateful to again fully participate in the Mass, and pray that others who have hearing difficulty will also participate.”

CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS CHOIR

If you are in third grade to sixth grade and would like to sing in the St. Francis of Assisi Children’s Christmas Choir, please join us for rehearsals in the Duesman Room in the Parish Center. Rehearsals are from 6:00 pm to 6:45 pm on the following Wednesdays: De-cember 3rd, 10th, and 17th. Attendance at rehearsals is mandato-ry.
