house to a land that I will show you.” (Genesis 12:1) God calls all of us to leave behind our old ways and to follow

Him, placing our complete trust in Him. Some of the old ways that we may have to struggle to leave behind might be materialism, selfishness and greed. Yet God promises to show us a new land

and a better way to live.

Responsorial Psalm II Why is the psalm called “responsorial?” In a certain sense, the

psalm is a response to the first reading. The name, however, derives from the fact that it is an antiphonal “call and response” format. It is representative of the dialogical nature of the liturgy itself, sort of a “conversational” form of prayer. This is why it is important to use musical settings that honor that format, rather than hymns that are

based on psalms, but which have no repeated antiphon.

El Salmo Responsorial II ¿Por que el salmo es denominado “responsorial”? En cierto sentido, el salmo es una respuesta a la primera lectura. El nombre, sin embargo, deriva del hecho de que esta en un formato antifonal “convocación y respuesta”. Below are the guidelines of Lenten observance for the faithful in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.

Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fast and abstinence. Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence.

As outlined on the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops' website on Lenten fasting and abstinence, "fasting is obligatory for all who have completed their 18th year and have not yet reached their 60th year. Fasting allows a person to eat one full meal. Two smaller meals may be taken, not to equal one full meal. Abstinence (from meat) is obligatory for all who have reached their 14th year.

Fridays in Lent are obligatory days of complete abstinence (from meat) for all who have completed their 14th year.

Family Life Center

Court St. Francis de Sales #2647 will be

sponsoring the St. Joseph Altar

The St. Joseph Altar will display a variety of homemade Italian

breads and pastries baked by our parishioners. We are asking

parishioners to bring their baked items on Saturday morning to

the Family Life Center between 10:00 and noon, when we will

be assembling the altar. After the dinner, the baked goods on the

altar will be sold for a donation. All parishioners are invited to

participate. The Knights of Columbus will be cooking a spaghetti

dinner for $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for children.

All proceeds from the baked goods and dinner will go to the St.

Vincent de Paul Society.

Do you want to become an Altar Server? Training classes for new Altar Servers will be held

UNITY - BRINGING US ALL TOGETHER BAZAAR 2017/ BAZAR 2017

We will begin with renewed fervor to advance the culture of life at all levels. Please watch the bulletin for upcoming events and join us in making them successful. On Ash Wednesday, the annual 40 days of life has

coincided with Lent. As our parish participation in

the success of this effort, we are asking our parishioners to devote

one hour of prayer before the Blessed Sacrament for an end to

abortion and the success of the 40 Days for Life. Our goal is to

cover each of these 40 days with prayer for this important effort.
