Fourth Sunday of Easter May 7, 2017

He himself bore our sins in his body upon the cross, so that, free from sin,

we might live for righteousness. — 1 Peter 2:24a

My Dear Parishioners,

Traditionally the month of May is the month we honor Our Blessed Mother and celebrate Mother’s Day. It is a wonderful opportunity to honor women.

As I’m getting older, particularly this year with the death of my mother, I often reflect upon the incredible role my mother has played in my life and in our family. I remember my dad used to say to us “the greatest gift a father can give to his children is to love and respect their mother.” The love and respect of a father and mother is the beginning of all families. My parents’ love and respect for one another was their response to God’s love in their lives. Through that love and respect they gave birth to us children. My mother’s love and respect for my dad was the heart of all activities around the house and made our house a “home sweet home”. My mother’s love for each one of us (10 children) was a reflection of her love for our Blessed Mother and the Church. My mother was always at work to make sure we felt loved, connected and welcome. Mom always seemed to have ways to do things to include everyone in the family—carrying a child in her womb, creating a home, raising a family and passing on the faith. Our Blessed Mother is always at work to help us in the Church, to lead us closer to her Son. I would like to encourage you to develop a greater devotion to Mary in your lives and in your families. The month of May reminds us all that we all come from families where we can find love and support. We also need to express our love and support to our families. Where would any of us be without our mother? Our family? And without our “church family”? Let us be sure to express our gratitude and love to our mothers, our Blessed Mother, Mary and the Church. In honor of all our mothers, both living and deceased, we have a novena of Masses that started May 5th. The envelopes you have submitted with the names of your mothers, godmothers, aunts, grandmothers—all special women in your lives— have been placed on the altar and will be prayed for everyday through May 14th which is Mother’s Day. I invite all of you to join us at Mass to pray for our Mothers. With prayerful heart to all mothers, Father Tom

Happy Easter Season to all of you! We now celebrate the Easter Season, which is the longest Liturgical Church season. During the Easter Season we are reminded that Jesus’ Resurrection is actually the most important part of our faith, and we celebrate it every Sunday at Mass as a mini Easter! I am so proud of all of our communicants who are celebrating the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus this weekend as they make their FIRST communion.

During the Month of May we also honor our Mother Mary. We will be honoring her as a whole school community at our May crowning on May 16th at 9:30 a.m. We will be singing and participating in a living rosary. We would love for our fellow parishioners to join us.

The school board has been meeting and discussing the 60th anniversary of the school in 2019. We are hoping to have a Festival celebration in March of 2019. Bringing back the festival is a big endeavor and we need lots of help. We are hoping to form different committees to help plan. If you would like to help us by serving on a planning committee, please email me or call the school office.

Continued and Abundant Easter blessings!

Amen.
