Pastor’s Column: Did you know that some really amazing flowers are doing
their most critical growing right now!?!? Just like my football
analogies, I promise to only utilize horticulture analogies once
per year ☺, but indeed, many wonderful things that we will
soon appreciate are under way below the surface, things like
bulb flowers, tree blossoms and farm crops! I feel the same
way about what is growing within our parishes’ communities.
We have 6 students at St. Mary’s School learning about
Catholicism and possibly getting baptized soon. We have
several adults preparing for full initiation into the Catholic
Church at Easter. We have over 32 young people signed up for
First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. We have
groups planning Lenten activities and decorations. We have
families signing up children for next school year at the school.
We are preparing for renovations to the St. Bernard doors and
ceiling. And we are nearing our final interviews and decisions
about the new staff member. None of this is actually
happening yet, but for these efforts, now is the time for critical
developments, deeper rooting and using the time wisely and
diligently. What about the interior life of our souls? What
developments might God be stirring within our hearts to pay
attention to and act upon? What is going on below the surface
that we can take to prayer and bring to fruition soon? Notice
what you notice! Now is the time. May we all do our part to
help the growth and flourishing of God’s never-ending
Kingdom! –Father Chris
The 2019 Catholic Charities Annual Appeal is underway
with an in-pew commitment process taking place this
weekend. This is not a special collection; rather, the Catholic
Charities Annual Appeal represents the chance for all
Catholics to make a significant pledge, payable in
installments, to Catholic Charities, Diocese of Cleveland in
order to support its mission of a society that stands united in
its support of the “least among us.” Many parishioners have
received a letter from Bishop Perez requesting their support.
If you have not received this letter, please respond to the in-
pew commitment process today! If you have received the
mailing, please respond to it. There is a box on the in-pew
envelope to indicate that you have responded by mail.
Walk in Faith. Give in Joy. Your support of the 2019
Catholic Charities Annual Appeal helps us to carry out the
mission that Jesus entrusted to us: I say to you, whatever you
did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.’
Please consider a generous gift that will change the lives of the
410,000 who are served each year in Northeast Ohio. Please
pray for the success of the Appeal, which provides for
essential programs and services in need throughout all eight
counties of the Diocese of Cleveland.
On behalf of the poor and needy of Northeast Ohio, thank
you! We invite you to view the stories of inspiration and more
information at www.catholiccommunity.org/2019appeal.
