THE SACRAMENTAL LIFE OF OUR CHURCH THE SACRAMENT OF THE HOLY EUCHARIST THE HOLY SACRIFICE OF THE MASS Saturday: Vigil - 5:00 PM Sunday Schedule: 8:00AM 10:00AM

12 NOON 5:00 PM Weekdays: Monday through Saturday: 9:00 AM Holy Day: See Schedule in Bulletin

COMMUNION TO THE SICK is taken by Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist on a regular basis to those confined to their homes. Please call the Parish Center.

THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM is celebrated on most Sundays at 1:30 PM (not during Lent). A family must be registered in the parish, attend the baptismal preparation class, and cooperate with the regulations established by the parish. Our baptismal class is held on the 2nd Monday of the month at 8:00 PM. Please call the Parish Center to register any time during your pregnancy.

THE SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION is celebrated on Saturday between 11:30 AM and 12:30 PM in the Chapel or by appointment.

THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION is celebrated once a year by the Bishop’s delegate, here at St. Augustine. A candidate must successfully complete our Religious Education program. Adult Confirmation is held on Pentecost Sunday and any interested adults should contact the Parish Center.

THE SACRAMENT OF THE SICK is administered at home to any Catholic who is seriously ill. Please call the Parish Center. Any parishioner admitted to a local hospital should contact the Catholic Hospital Chaplain through the hospital. A family member should contact the parish when someone is admitted to the hospital. We will gladly pray for any members who are sick, whether at home or in the hospital, at our Sunday Masses; however, it is necessary for the family to “request” it.

THE SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY is celebrated by the Pastor or one of our deacons. Weddings may be scheduled on Friday evening, Saturday, or Sunday afternoon. Only a ceremony is permitted on Sunday. The pastor will confirm the date so couples should contact the Parish Center at least ONE YEAR in advance. All the necessary information will be sent to you. The attendance at Pre-Cana or an Engaged Encounter Weekend is required. One must be a registered member of the parish. Our parish upholds the Gospel values and the Church’s teachings regarding the sacredness of marriage and those couples choosing to live together in contradiction of those values, will receive a simple ceremony and all Diocesan regulations followed.

THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY ORDERS and RELIGIOUS LIFE: If you are considering serving God as a priest, deacon, or religious, you may contact your parish priest, deacon, or religious; or phone the Diocesan Office of Vocations at (732) 562-1990.

THE DEVOTIONAL LIFE OF THE PARISH:

The Liturgy of the Hours is prayed Monday through Saturday at 8:45 AM prior to Mass.

Eucharistic Adoration/Devotion is held Monday at 7:00 PM (not on national holidays or during the summer)

“Go, eat rich foods and drink sweet drinks, and allot portions to those who had nothing prepared… Nehemiah 8:10

Ezra’s instructions to the people show us that God does not forbid us from enjoying the good things in life. He wants us to be happy! However, God expects us to be grateful for all that He has given us and to generously share our blessings with those who are in need without expecting anything in return.

MEDITATION FOR JANUARY 27TH, 2019 The fulfillment of the Scriptures is found in the person of Jesus. We spend a lot of time waiting. Waiting for people; waiting for events; waiting for time to pass; waiting for the cable guy to show up. One thing we do not have to wait for is for God to fulfill His promise. That promise-of forgiveness and union-came in the person of Jesus Christ And from the time of those who physically surrounded Him to today, the message has been

simple: repent and believe. And that seems a lot more fruitful than waiting around..

The first reading recounts the ceremonial instructions for receiving God’s law. Saint Paul urges the Corinthians to remember that are a part of the one Body of Christ, regardless of their individual gifts and differences. In the Gospel, before proclaiming that Jesus is the fulfillment of the Scriptures, Luke begins by underlining the importance of passing teachings to new believers.

SPIRITUAL REMEMBRANCE TABERNACLE CANDLES

In Memory of John Nemergut Donated by The Family

OUTREACH MINISTRY Making a “living” is not the same thing as making a “life.” Sometimes we need to help those who are having a difficult time making a “living” so that they can continue to work on making a “life.”

(Envelopes can be found in the Gathering Area of the Church).

INTENTIONS OF OUR HOLY FATHER We are invited to unite with our Holy Father, Pope Francis, for this universal intention during the month of January.

Young People and the example of Mary. That young people, especially in Latin America, follow the example of Mary and respond to the call of the Lord to communicate the joy of the Gospel to the world.

The second collection this weekend is for the Foundation for Catholic Education, which provides scholarships to financially-deserving children attending a Diocese of Metuchen Catholic elementary of high school. Over 100 deserving children are enrolled in one of our schools today thanks to your generous support of last year’s collection. Hundreds of families, hoping to give their children the gift of a Catholic school education, will seek financial assistance from the FCE Scholarship Program for the 2019-20 school year. Your gift will send a child to Catholic school, changing a life forever! Please be as generous as your means allow.
