Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

This Sunday’s readings are among the most beautiful in the

Scriptures, pointing to deep truths about our relationship with God.

The first one from the prophet Jeremiah, points to us the reality of

God knowing us before we were formed in our mothers womb. We were

known to God before we were conceived. How lasting and fundamental is

God’s presence to us. God has a universe prepared and waiting for us,

than He was essentially involved in forming us in the womb of our

mother before she really came to naturally nurture us through her body,

and than bringing us to the world at birth, she continued to prepare us

for survival in this world.

At every step of this process, God was maintaining the universe to be a good place for us. He was

present at every breath that we ever took. Even our loving mother is not aware of our every instance of life,

but God is aware of our every breath. Isn’t it amazing and wonderful ??

God sustains our life every second by providing for us all necessary conditions. He calls us to

accomplish a part of his plan of salvation to bring it to the nations. What is this plan?, and what is my and

your part in it ??? Is there any other plan ??? Is there anything better to do, than to collaborate with

God’s plan ??? His plan is eternal, our plans are little, temporary plans.

The best way of being a part of the master plan made by God, is to listen to his word by answering

with love. Saint Paul gives us the answer in the second reading, by approaching all things with faith, hope

and love. Those three virtues, are the best indicator and guide to happy and fulfilled life. Love itself is the

best way to answer, to direct ones life. This mature love, has to include the one who is the origin of love-

God, and than others as oneself. It is fascinating to read, how much Saint Paul exalts love and shows, how

it perfects all other gifts and virtues, by standing above them in time and in eternity. Love is the greatest of

all things, and ultimately Love is of God, because God is Love. If we would know, how to love God,

ourselves and others, we would fulfill perfectly God’s plan. Seems, Saint Paul learned for himself how to

love, and attempts to teach us.

When Jesus takes on this task, in the Gospel of today, he is challenged by people of his own town

Nazareth, who pretend knowing better what is important in life, and plan on killing Jesus who offended

their spiritual pride and their way of life.

How eager are we to hear from Jesus, about what He thinks about our way of life, and about what

is important in life ???

Our youth have returned from Panama, recharged with faith experience. I hope that they could say

something about their experience on the end of Masses this or coming weakends, to make us aware how

meaningful experience it was for them. It can be a life changing experience if one should meet Jesus in

this encounter of faith. I wish and pray, that it is so for them all.

For the rest of us, if we respond to Jesus’ daily invitation, we can

arrive at perception and capacity to love as He loves us.

Queridas Hermanas y Hermanos:

Las lecturas de este Domingo se encuentran entre las mas bellas Escritu-

ras, señalando verdades profundas sobre nuestra relación con Dios.

La primera del profeta Jeremías, nos señala la realidad de que Dios no

conoce antes de que nos formemos en el vientre de nuestra madre. Dios no

conocía antes de ser concebidos. Cuan duradera y fundamental es la presencia de

Dios para nosotros. Dios tiene un universo preparado y esperándonos, de lo que

estuvo esencialmente involucrado en formarnos en el vientre de nuestra madre

antes de que ella realmente nos nutriera naturalmente a través de su cuerpo, y

luego de traernos al mundo al nacer, ella continuo preparándonos para la supervivencia en este mundo.

En cada paso de este proceso, Dios mantenía el universo como un buen lugar para nosotros. El estuvo

presente en cada respiración que alguna vez tomamos. Incluso nuestra madre amorosa no es consciente

de cada uno de nuestros ejemplos de vida, pero Dios esta consciente de cada respiración. No es asombroso

y maravilloso??

Dios sostiene nuestra vida cada segundo al proporcionarnos todas las condiciones necesarias. El

nos llama a cumplir una parte de su plan de salvación para llevarlo a las naciones. ¿Qué es este plan, y

cual es mi y tu parte en ello??? ¿Hay algún otro plan? ¿Hay algo mejor que hacer que colaborar con el

plan de Dios? Su plan es eterno, nuestros planes son pequeños, planes temporales.

La mejor manera de ser parte de un plan maestro hecho por Dios, es escuchar su palabra respon-

diendo con amor. San Pablo nos da la respuesta en la segunda lectura, al abordar todas las cosas con fe,

esperanza y amor. Esas tres virtudes, son el mejor indicador y guía para una vida feliz y plena. El amor en

si mismo es la mejor manera de responder, de dirigir la vida. Este amor, tiene que incluir al que es el

origen de Dios de amor, y de otros como uno mismo. Es fascinante leer, cuanto exalta San Pablo al amor

y lo que muestra, como perfecciona todos los demás dones y virtudes, destacándose sobre ellos en el

tiempo y en la eternidad. El amor es mas grande de todas las cosas, y en ultima instancia, el amor es de

Dios, porque Dios es amor. Si supiéramos, como amar a Dios, a nosotros mismos ya los demás, sabríamos,

como amar a Dios, a nosotros mismos y a los demás, cumpliríamos perfectamente el plan de Dios. Parece,

San Pablo aprendió por si mismo como amar, e intenta enseñarnos.

Cuando Jesús asume esta tarea, en el Evangelio de hoy, es desafiado por las personas de su propio

pueblo, Nazareh, quienes pretenden saber mejor lo que es importante en la vida y planean matar a Jesús

que ofendió su orgullo espiritual y su forma de vida.

¿Cuántas ganas tenemos de escuchar a Jesús, acerca de lo que El piensa acerca de nuestra forma

de vida y de lo que es importante en la vida?

Tenemos a nuestros jóvenes que han regresado de Panamá, recargados con experiencia de fe.

Espero que puedan decir algo sobre su experiencia al final de las Misas este fin de semana o el próximo.

Para hacernos conscientes de cuan significativa fue la experiencia para ellos. Puede ser una experiencia

que cambie la vida si uno se encuentra con Jesús en este encuentro de fe. Deseo y oro, que asi sea para

todos. Para el resto de nosotros, si respondemos a la invitación diaria de Jesús, podemos llegar a la

percepción y la capacidad de amar como El nos ama.

(IV-C) DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO

Jr 1:4-5,17-1/Sal 70:1-6,15,17/1Cor 12:31-13/Lc 4:21-30

Enero 2, la liturgia celebra la Presentación del Señor o, devotamente, ‘la Candelaria’…que

comenzó a celebrarse en Jerusalén en s. IV y en Roma a partir del s. V., por lo mismo la

festividad adquiere un carácter mariano muy marcado, nosotros hemos aprovechado este motivo

para resaltarlo en nuestra misa del sábado por la noche con luces y referirla también a una bella

fiesta que tiene lugar en Honduras bajo la advocación de la Virgen de Suyapa, la imagen es una

pequeña estatua de madera de cedro, tallada al estilo antiguo y es elemento de unidad y fuerza,

centro de convocación y de comunión. En la misa, el centro siempre es Cristo, hoy representado

por la luz, en otras tradiciones, es el día en que se levanta la imagen del Niño Jesús que estuvo

expuesto en el Misterio de la Natividad…también se puede hacer dicho levantamiento el día de

Reyes o el día del Bautismo.

La primera lectura y el Evangelio están situadas en el horizonte universal de la salvación, en

Dios y/o en Cristo. El anuncio de los signos del Reino y de la Buena Nueva es incondicional, no

responde a raza, estatus social o cultural, es para todos, por lo mismo en AT un profeta es

enviado a paganos y NT dice que entre los suyos: “Jesús no pudo obrar ningún milagro”. Esa

obra de salvación hoy se realiza a través del testimonio de los cristianos, de la Iglesia…la JMJ

en Panamá en una actualización de ese ‘horizonte universal de salvación’, un Papa argentino,

uno de los nuestros y en nuestro idioma, ha venido a su casa, a Centroamérica y dio un mensaje,

¿será que hoy “los más próximos” si atenderemos al que se nos es enviado? ¿o seguimos

pidiendo señales? ‘Pedro’ es la personificación de Cristo que habla a propios y a extraños,

atendamos a sus palabras de la mano de la María de Nazareth.

Evangile de Jésus-Christ selon St Luc : 4 :21-30

Dans la synagogue de Nazareth, après la lecture du livre d'Isaïe, Jésus déclara : « Cette parole

de l'Écriture, que vous venez d'entendre, c'est aujourd'hui qu'elle s'accomplit. » Tous lui

rendaient témoignage ; et ils s'étonnaient du message de grâce qui sortait de sa bouche. Ils se

demandaient : « N'est-ce pas là le fils de Joseph ? » Mais il leur dit : « Sûrement vous allez

me citer le dicton : 'Médecin, guéris-toi toi-même. Nous avons appris tout ce qui s'est passé à

Capharnaüm : fais donc de même ici dans ton pays !' » Puis il ajouta : « Amen, je vous le dis :

aucun prophète n'est bien accueilli dans son pays. En toute vérité, je vous le déclare : Au

temps du prophète Élie, lorsque la sécheresse et la famine ont sévi pendant trois ans et demi,

il y avait beaucoup de veuves en Israël ; pourtant Élie n'a été envoyé vers aucune d'entre elles,

mais bien à une veuve étrangère, de la ville de Sarepta, dans le pays de Sidon. Au temps du

prophète Élisée, il y avait beaucoup de lépreux en Israël ; pourtant aucun d'eux n'a été purifié,

mais bien Naaman, un Syrien. » A ces mots, dans la synagogue, tous devinrent furieux. Ils se

levèrent, poussèrent Jésus hors de la ville, et le menèrent

jusqu'à un escarpement de la colline où la ville est

construite, pour le précipiter en bas. Mais lui, passant au

milieu d'eux, allait son chenin.
