SSES Spring Visitors

Breakfast Shelves
SSES Community Schools
The primary students at SSES were
treated to a visit from the farm.
Rhonda Johnson and her family set
up three pens at the entrance of
SSES for the classes to see chickens
and a bunny. This was a great way
for the students to welcome spring.
Rhonda provided each class with
some information about raising chick-
ens and life on the farm. We are very
thankful to Rhonda and her family for
bringing the farm to SSES.
The St. Stephen Elementary breakfast program received a generous donation of $500 from the St. Stephen Milltown Rotary Club for the 2012-2013 school year. This donation has filled our breakfast shelves with cereal. We thank the Ro-tary club and the many other community supporters that assist us with supplying a healthy breakfast.

We are very pleased to announce
that in March at SSES a Grade 2
Literacy Mentoring program has
started. Community members
have received training from the
Literacy Lead teachers at SSES,
Patty Smith and Lisa McAllen.
The Literacy Mentors were then
matched with a grade 2 student
to work on grade 2 literacy ob-
jectives. They work one-on-one
with the students they are
matched with from 2-3pm on
Tuesdays and Wednesdays. This

K-Kids Raise Funds for the SPCA
Deborah Northrup from Town and
County Squares dance club is provid-
ing Square Dancing instruction to
Grade 2 students at SSES. These
students will be practicing their new
moves once a week from early April
till the end of May. The students are
eager to learn these new skills and
are catching on very quickly.
K-Kids travelled by bus to the
SPCA to deliver their oversized
cheque. They were treated to a
tour of the shelter while they
were there and had the opportu-
nity to see how the money they
raised will be helping the shelter
animals.
The K-Kids winter fund-
raising project has come to
an end. They were very
pleased to present a cheque
for $319.10 to the Charlotte
County SPCA. The K-Kids
raised these funds from the
December sock hop, yard
sale, jewelry sale and bas-
ket raffle. On April 4th the

As we enter spring we will be in
need of a change of clothes for
many students who wander into
puddles on the playground. We
have established a clothing
closet in our resource room that
provides items for students. We
have arranged bins according to
size and gender to make it fast
and easy to select needed items.
The SSES Educational Assistants
have volunteered to monitor the
shelves and stock them with do-
nations as they are received. If
you have some gently used
items at home that you would
like to donate please drop them
off at the SSES office. We are in
need of sweat pants (elastic
wastes are great to fit many
shapes/sizes), t-shirts, and
sweatshirts. We would also wel-
come rubber boots, sneakers,
and splash pants.
We stock our shelves with sizes
4/5 to 14/16. We will be relying
on our SSES community to keep
these shelves supplied with
needed items.
