Day 1 Screening TestScreening Test in SSB:-

The screening test is at first day of the SSB interview. The

test comprises of Intelligence Test or Officer Intelligence Test(O.I.R) and ..D.T. tests ict!re erception and DescriptionTest. The tests are aimed to find o!t the analy"ing a#ility of thecandidate and to ga!ge their inner mind potential. $et we see indetail a#o!t these two steps.

    What is Intelligence?

Intelligence is defined as the inner a#ility of the candidate tosolve partic!lar pro#lem i.e. aptit!de% reasoning etc. OfficerIntelligence Rating refers to solve set of pro#lems which consistsof #oth ver#al and nonver#al reasoning in a short d!ration oftime. So here the time is less and the candidate has to solvemore n!m#er of &!estions correctly. $i'e this p!tting thecandidate !nder press!re to solve the intelligence &!estions is

    called as Officer Intelligence Rating.

Importance of Intelligence Test at SSB :-

The mar's o#tained the intelligence test is important since%after getting recommended and clearing the medicals the overallmerit or the national level is #ased on this mar's only.

Types of Questions asked in SSB for Intelligence Test :-

There are two types of tests are cond!cted at SSB% tomeas!re the candidate innate a#ility% They are

    1. er#al Reasoning and

    Analogy and Classification:-

In this part% a word and its related word is given% then anotherword with fo!r options are given. S!ch that we have to find o!tthe related word from the option.

    Coding - ecoding :-

In this part% certain word is coded to some n!m#er3alpha#etin reversal manner% then we have to encode it accordingly. The

    #asic techni&!e to follow is write n!m#ers for the alpha#ets&!ic'ly in the ro!gh space provided in the testing hall.!"g":- A-#$ B-%$ C-&$ -'$ !-($ )-*$ +-,$ -.$ I-/$ 0-#1$ 2-##$ 3-#%$ 4-#&$ 5-#'$ 6-#($ 7-#*$ Q-#,$ 8-#.$ S-#/$ T-%1$ 9-%#$ -%%$ W-%&$ ;-%'$

    5um>er Series:-

In this a series of n!m#er is given and we have to find o!t thene=t n!m#er. The series given may #e of in s&!ares% c!#esval!es or simple odd or even n!m#ers also.!"g":-

    Blood 8elations:-

The Blood relation &!estions are easy one. If we arethoro!gh with the relation then it is easy to solve.

Complete and Incomplete 7attern of )igures :-

This type of &!estion is also easy% that some part of the

fig!re is missing. e have to find o!t from the given option thatwhich part is missing.

    Communication Skills:-

This is the most important thing at 5.D since the heart of the

Sharing of kno@ledge to the group mem>ers:-

In 5D% to ma'e the disc!ssion in a smooth manner sharing of'nowledge plays a important role. Since every candidate willgive a point and e=pects that the gro!p sho!ld stic' over hispoint. T@o Important parts of the +":-#" Initialisation

    %" Conclusion

    Initialisation:-

Initialisation gives either two things in 5D. It will #e a 2ing

rown in yo!r head if yo! start3initiate the 5.D very well. i.e./veryone will agree to yo!r initiali"ation. /lse it will #e aindele#le remar' over yor if yo! stammer at the starting point of5.D. So if yo! 'now very well a#o!t the topic G!st start thedisc!ssion confidently. /lse listen to others and s!mmari"e yo!rpoint then trigger it to the gro!p.

    Initiation in +roup iscussion Techniues:-

There are several techni&!es in the initiation of gro!pdisc!ssion. They are as follows+, Real time e=ample initiation techni&!e.

    Defining a#o!t the topic techni&!e.

    Interrogatory type techni&!e.

Starting with hot iss!es and sailing over that techni&!e.

  • 5/28/2018 ssb guide (1)

    53/89

Esing phrases or &!otes at the starting.

$et we see in detail a#o!t each%8eal time eample initiation techniue:-

This is the common initiation techni&!e followed #y many inthe 5.D. i.e. if the topic given #y the 5.T.O is a#o!t NBRIB/S I*I*DI-N% then the candidate may start the disc!ssion #y givingreal time e=amples s!ch as BI en&!iry for vario!s scams etc. This is merging the theme of the topic with the real time.

    efining a>out the topic techniue:-

This is very #asic initiation techni&!e followed #y most of the

persons in 5.D. i.e. if the topic is given the 5.T.O is a#o!t thesame NBRIB/S I* I*DI-N% then the candidate may start thedisc!ssion as defining a#o!t the root ca!se for the #ri#e% vario!stopic related to #ri#e and pros and cons over the topic. So he isdefining a#o!t the topic #y giving a theme so that the teammem#ers can catch !p the point and disc!ss.

    Interrogatory type techniue:-

This is very interesting techni&!e followed the few #oldcandidates in 5.D. i.e. as'ing interrogatory type things s!ch aswhat% when% who% how li'e &!estion a#o!t the given topic. Since%this may gives a good or #ad image to the 5.T.O. This sho!ld#e !sed at the right time% since if it is !sed wrongly it may give aimpression as a negative thin'er.

!ample for +ood Initialisation in Interrogatory type:-

$et we ta'e the topic N*E$/-R R/-TOR I* I*DI-N% inthis topic if the candidate starts the disc!ssion with hy Indiawants a n!clear reactor rather than choosing a alternative so!rcefor power after telling this he sho!ld #e a#le to s!pport his point#y giving positive points s!ch as% what was happened in Kapand!e to n!clear reactor.($i'e this even tho!gh the starting seems

  • 5/28/2018 ssb guide (1)

    54/89

to #e negative he finishes the topic #y giving a strong positivepoint% i.e he gives importance to the people of india rather thanpower prod!ction% -lso he is not leaving a#o!t powerprod!ction% he also gave in his point to find an alternatiave

sol!tion). So this is a good initialisation.

!ample for Bad Initialisation in Interrogatory type:-

$et we ta'e the topic N*E$/-R R/-TOR I* I*DI-N% inthis topic if the candidate starts the disc!ssion with Nhathappend in Kapan - large amo!nt of life loss and devastation. So *!clear Reactor sho!ld #e a#olished from India and it sho!ld#e closeN. This is also the same &!estion type initialisation #!t

the thing is he didnt gave a s!pportive positive point to his&!estion type initialisation and also the starting seems to #enegative. So avoid this type of initialisation.

These are the pros and cons of the interrogatory initialisatontechni&!e.

Starting @ith hot issues and sailing oDer that techniue:-

This is an interesting techni&!e% giving a hot topic and socialwelfare topic s!ch that every one will get little more interest todisc!ss a#o! this.!ample:- $et the topic #e NTiger preservation in IndiaN% the start thedisc!ssion #y giving a acc!rate statement that the n!m#er oftiger is decreasing rapidly. If this contin!es what will the co!ntafter five years. In this scenario if yo! want togive the n!m#er of tigers in India% #e clear a#o!t the co!nt i.e. #eacc!rate in yo!r val!es.

    Conclusion:-

    In SSB 5ro!p Disc!ssion they dont e=pect to concl!de the5.D. The concl!sion is e=pected only in F../ i.e. Filitary
